@7:30 That trick works like a charm. I was on tower guard on a little outpost in Panjwai Kandahar one time and it was dark AF and about 02:00. The locals have little scooter motorcycles and occasionally a little old beat-up pickup truck. So it's 2 am, it's dark, it's quiet, it's boring. Me and the other 2 guys on guard with me are SO tired. We are literally playing a game where one of us exits the tower to go find a random place to pee and the other guys use their thermals to find the pee. That's how we tried to stay wake lol 😅 Anyway, we see headlights coming from the dirt road that runs next to our outpost. The headlights drive all the way up to our tower and stop. It's a brand new shiny Volvo. Shit makes zero sense in this poor farming area. So all 3 of us immediately go off safe and activate our PEQ-15 IR lasers. A guy steps out of the car and starts yelling up at our tower in Arabic(pashto). We have no idea what he is saying. Keep in mind there's no man-made lights here in this area. Moonlight is the only light and there is not much on this night. This guy can't see us up in the tower, he just knows we are there. We try to radio base to let them know what's happening... our fucking radio battery is dead 😂 So now we are on our own in this tower having a screaming match with a guy that doesn't speak the same language and no help is coming. We are screaming like heavy metal frontmen, GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE. LEAVE. GET BACK IN YOUR VEHICLE. YOU ARE ABOUT TO DIE. He had no idea what we were saying and we had no idea what he was saying. We were quietly making callouts and just discussing possibilities in between screaming. Is this a car bomb? Is someone else about to exit the vehicle with an RPG? Is this guy about to pull out a gun? Is he wearing anything under his jacket that might explode? I had enough. This is where that internationally known laser trick comes in. I switched my PEQ-15 from IR to visible red dot and I put that shit right between his eyes. He stfu real quick after that and put his hands up. Slowly walked back to his car and drove off. That shit still bugs me to this day. Like wtf did he want? Was he testing to see how close we would let him get without shooting him? Was he just pissed off and wanted to yell at some Americans? Still irks me

I love that point Jocko made about the sound. There are some sounds that no theater can duplicate. For an example that is safe and anyone can go to, go watch a top fuel drag race. Even if racing isn't your thing, it's an experience that will open your eyes to a lot of things. The sound you don't just hear, you feel it in your chest and though your whole body. It's not just sound, it's a feeling. Plus, those cars accelerate so fast that you have a hard time turning your head fast enough to track them
