I’m a fan of the standard game so this is an automatic buy for me. If I didn’t like ASoIaF would I be excited? Maybe not, but I would probably still enjoy just playing it.

How’s the game play?

I know nothing about this game but I love Star Wars and I used to have a problem buying ccg’s, so I have a special place in my heart to watch people crackin packs.it’s fun to watch someone having fun with the unknown. Mtg and Star Wars destiny kind of burned me out but fun to watch others, thanks

I'm still waiting for my copy to arrive. But I'm glad to hear it's an 8 for you, and overall that's not so complicated as a Lacerda. BTW Julian Pombo started by helping Lacerda testing games, helping in some designs and then he created his own games with some Lacerda's observations.

The game was a great deal for the kickstarter price. It was $85, or $90 for preorder, with included clear skies expansion (stretch goals). The clear skies expansion would add more variety with the companies and objective cards. The cheapest I saw for retail was $100 which could be a good value. I feel it's a game that you are going to be bouncing off of what other people do a lot. It's a mix of area control and euro mechanics.

I really like the theme! I've bounced off Lacerda style games bcause they are too procedual for my tastes. Probably going to wait for a copy to hit the 2nd handmarket and then give it a go if the price is right! FYI: The mechanics intro was a bit loud using headphones!

Finally played it this past weekend. I bought a copy and the friend I played with bought a copy. I give it an 8.5, could be a 9 with more plays. 😊

I like Aquatica. The combos make the game for me. And it's quick. Quick to set up, quick to teach, quick to play. But I eouldn't keep it if it didn't also give some brain burn.

I literally don’t get the massive change in opinion for Rails to the North. Just because a new iteration of a game comes along and implements things differently should not be an indicator in such a massive drop off. Preference to play one over the other? Sure. But such denigration? Odd

Mutant Genesis is definitely the best of these offerings and Magneto is the best final boss of any box they've done to date. However I still rate Sinister Motives as joint first for box quality alongside MG.

I like your review format. The important thing about Spirit Island is like you said that it is a puzzle game. You win by ordering your powers in the best way to mess with the invaders which behave almost entirely deterministic. It also has a difficulty that is easy to tune according to your skill level so that you should always be able to create a game that treats you fairly. Although you discuss Jagged Earth here, as an entry point, Horizons of Spirit Island may be a good lowcost sampling of the game system to figure out if you want to delve deeper. A cheaper option still is to find the game digitally where you can play a few turns for free. I would say that beyond a handful of plays of the base game that either Branch and Claw or Jagged Earth is essential. The addition of events that both expansions offer adds a small dimension of risk and unpredictability that the base game sorely lacks.

I would kind of agree with the statement it is not a game, still rated it 8/10 on bgg. It is an experience. Nemesis largely plays itself with minimal player input, has got some clunky mechanics, like noise markers, and some straight up game breaking ones like luck driven player elimination Played as semi coop most of players will die, quite likely all of them if counting flying not to earth or broken engines as death. But that's the fun of it. Being in an alien movie on board you expect to be, betrayed, killed, have tons of bad luck, essentially be helpless and not make it. Ripley was the chosen one. And you are not Ripley.

I played Catan twice in my life, not as an introduction to the hobby, but to check what it is. Just the base game. One if those playthroughs I was not able to do anything because of bad dice rolls.if somebody invited me to play this game i would agree, but I would not recommend it myself.

Man, I played this game like 3 times and every time it was just sooo boring (and long) to me. I think I prefer lighter coops and/or the ones where theme is really oozing through (like Robinson Crusoe).

Spirit Island was designed with Branch and Claw being part of the package only later did it get seperated. So essential because without its not complete! My favorite spirits are in Feather and Flame though. Ocean is pretty thematic imo! Also Many Minds and Volcano! Other spirits do feel more abstract though for sure :-) Best games of spirit island I've had are at 4-5players, but only with veterans!

Spirit island is not too much longer with more players if they are all experienced and can advance their own portion of the island etc.

I played it today for the first time with 4 players, myself and 2 others have never played it before, it took just over 2 hours. I did wish it was a bit quicker, will be playing it again tomorrow and hopefully it will go a bit quicker. 3 hours for 3 rounds is pretty nuts tho.
