Living cost in Sofia for a couple is from 1500 euros per month at the absolute low end ot 4000 euros per month at the absolute high end. This includes rent and would fall under most people's understanding of what a "normal" lifestyle is by modern and western standards.

There is no surprise that nobody order McDonald’s in Bulgaria . How you can compare all the tasty juicy fresh food around and expect someone to order maki 😂 People eating healthy food and doesn’t eat McDonald’s for breakfast lunch and dinner same as British. I hope they shut forever and took away this cancer food from the land of roses

I am very experienced living and working in several foreign countries (Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, USA, Cambodia, Japan). I have visited many others (e.g. Ukraine, Serbia, India, Dubai). So far, my favourite countries on my short list to retire to are Taiwan, Turkey and Bulgaria. I have never even been to Sofia. The key features that suggest that I should at least do an exploratory visit are as follows, and in this order of priority... 1. vegetarian-friendly 2. low cost/excellent value especially for groceries, rent and transportation 3. quiet (traffic in India was very noisy) 4. mostly Christian (Orthodox) and non-Asian population, but with some other minorities rather than a homogenous population such as Japan 5. distrustful of big government I am fed up with Canada because common sense and traditional values are so rare, especially in government policies. Question: why are none if these expats living on the southern coast near Turkey?

It is a rather dull country you have to admit-no riots, arsons, demonstrations are few and far between, no real wars to speak of, crime rate is nothing to write home about and the ski runs at the resorts get rather crowded during peak season. Ah yes and they give you lotsa cheep booze should you venture to the seaside. Boring…

В София хората винаги са напрегнати, прекъсват те докато говориш и ти говорят все едно ти се карат. Ако питаш някого нещо се държат с теб все едно си малоумен че си ги питал.

The grocery prices are probably off-season downtown Sofia. Which has similar GDP per capita to UK. If you're after financial independence, you gotta go full cottagecore. Spend 30K Leva on a socialist-era village house, and then another 30K to make it comfy. Not exactly free, but not the 7-digits you'd need in UK either. Or rent -- rent in rural areas is basically pocket change. But I digress. Learn to live with less and appreciate what you have. Grow your own vegetables. Learn some basic Bulgarian. Barter with your neighbors -- you have extra tomatoes, they have extra honey. Dig a well so you can water your tomatoes without paying crazy water bills. Dairy prices bother you? A cow will set you back 1000 Leva or so and can give you 20+ litres of milk per day! It's gonna be tough, but maybe that's the price you need to pay for peace of mind..

Bulgarians seem cold for some people, because we like to mind our own business, but don't worry ask us for help we will oblige with pleasure. We just don't love to talk a lot, especially about our private lives with strangers.

The name of the tennis player is Grigor Dimitrov, not Georgi. Gregory vs George - for English speakers. The Cyrillic alphabet was created by the disciples of St. Cyril and Methodius, and was named after St Cyril. The saints created the Glagolitic alphabet. Cyrillic alphabet is based on Greek and Glagolitic ones.

You don't buy a kilogram of carrots. Thats a lot. So figure like half of that kilo cost. Probably like 2 carrots is half a kilo maybe? And 4 carrots is 1 kilo ? Good statistics video

Stopped shopping at Lidl far to expensive, the fruit & veg markets are so much better & fresher. Billa are not good value either. I know where I would rather live Bulgaria beats the U.K. so much better and the sun shines here.

to all watching this video, take in mind that part of the “likes” (and by extension part of the views) are generated non-organically. that is, by soliciting ppl to like them in exchange for money not sure if the author of this video is even aware that their video ended up in such a scheme but if they’re, i’d be curious to know more about how it works and what’s the purpose

Food, Clothes and Toiletries and specially electronics are far more expensive than most of the Western European countries , provided that the minimum wage in Bulgaria is somewhere near 500-800€. Bulgarians (who can) actually go to Turkey to do their shopping. Also due to massive labour shortages in pretty much any industry, the food prices are set to go up. Also , yet again we don't have a government which creates issues in every part of the industry. If you don't work a really highly qualified IT job , you won't be able to live comfortably. Also , you are guaranteed won't be getting pension, if you moved after the age of 30 and even if you do it will be around 250€ ( unless you pay separately). Real estate in cities like Sofia.Plovdiv,Varna,Burgas and other bigger towns has now become extremely expensive. Please people , try to be a bit more objective!

I guess moving to Bulgaria as an English speaker might be considered a niche topic, so all the more Kudos for putting together some excellent instructional videos. We will be spending a few days in Sofia in Summer so info is important. Well done with the language tips, very useful for any language.👍

No sane person will claim Sofia is the best city on planet Earth but it's unlikely that you will get a real feel of the city in less than 1 week, it has a lot to offer to different tastes. 1 day means you'll only see a tiny bit of the places of interest and they hopefully leave a good impression.

Vitosha boulevard is one of most beatiful and unique capital's streets you can visit, I could say ...world wide . From one side you have a view with a beatiful snow covered 2200 hills mountain and from the opposite side of the street, a beatiful 10th centery old church ! Amaizing!!!

What is the cost of living in Bulgaria for a family of two in an economical city that has everything necessary in a two-bedroom home, including rent, utilities (electricity, water, gas, phone, internet, etc.), transportation, and entertainment, with moderate spending aiming for the most economical options but in a well-located, safe, and easily accessible area? Please provide the costs in American dollars or euros.
