Tears Of The Kingdom: The one that's even bigger (somehow), but it is still objectively an improvement over the former. 05. Majora's Mask: The weird one you need to be in the mood to play, that focused less on dungeons, and more on the characters and side activities. 04. Skyward Sword: The one that attempted to simulate actual sword fighting, and turned exploration into mini dungeons, also gifting us an excellent new villain in the form of the flamboyant Ghirahim. 03. Wind Waker: The one that everyone sighed over because sailing was boring, but then years later praise BOTW for adding countless hours of exploring vast empty spaces, while somehow ignoring the charming art style and characters until it became cool to do so again. 02. Ocarina Of Time: The absolute classic that sent gamers on a true journey and showed just how impressive old games can be when they still manage to outshine 90 percent of the cash grab swill that modern games push out regularly. 01. Twilight Princess: The best one that was genuinely dark in both tone and story, gave us the best dungeons overall in any zelda game, as well as the best companion in Midna, and the best villain since Ganondorf with Zant.

I agree with all of these. Midna is best companion btw, though I think Fi deserves more love. The dungeons are most definitely lacking. For example, in my playthrough of Tears Of The Kingdom, I chose to do every single shrine before tackling any of the four main dungeons...because I'm weird like that. And let me tell ya, having a full stamina gauge absolutely breaks the Fire Temple! There's this whole mine cart gimmick as a means of traversal, but who needs that when I can just skip everything by climbing? Don't even get me started on the Water Temple...they tried harder with literally every other shrine! They also removed collecting a map and compass from the dungeons, which is frankly criminal! How do I know I collected every chest when there's no way to check them off? That was part of the fun of older Zelda dungeons, and in some cases, going out of your way for optional chests led to other sections of the dungeon. Doesn't matter though cause it's gone now. I also agree about items. Another big part of what made those dungeons fun was beating the mini boss and getting a brand new item. It was always interesting to see how the dungeon would utilize said item as a means of progression. Too bad, cause that's gone as well! I understand Zelda had to go in the open world direction at some point because so many people like those types of games, but now that everyone has gotten it out of their system, I'd like to see Zelda return to the formula that made me fall in love in the first place. Besides, Tears Of The Kingdom took Link below ground and into the sky. Where's left to go at this point? Link in space!? I say it's time to dial things back a bit...

Imo, the fandom is completely split down the middle between two groups. One side dislikes the new sandbox/ open-world Zelda and prefers the more linear story progression, whereas one side loves and embraces the new iteration of the saga. One thing I really hate about all this is that the ones that love BOTW and TOTK often despise those that that prefer the older style Zelda games when they (The ones that prefer the older style) have legitimate criticisms of BOTW and TOTK.

I think you haven't played this game on the Wii, as Fi is much more annoying than on the Switch to the point where it's a real problem. It was most people's criticism at launch, and yeah motion controls were divisive to say the least but even then they weren't really that bad

While I still prefer mostly all other Zelda games, I do love Skyward Sword. I think that's mostly because I've only played the switch port. I think it gets a lot of hate due to the motion controls

This is the Zelda game that I grew up on and replayed countless times. My dad, who got me into Zelda, was the same but for Twilight princess. Im also a huge lore guy so finding out that demise was the start of the whole curse that plays out through the series blew my mind. I cannot put into words how amazing I felt when I heard the master sword in TOTK make the same noises Fi makes as it communicates with Zelda. It actually made my eyes water bc I was so happy. I loved every single part of this game and it is defiantly over hated.

Twilight Princess imo is the best Zelda game oat (of all time)

I played it first time on switch and while I understand why many would have their judgement clouded by the Wii version, the game is SO GOOD! Some of the best elements of Zelda games, one of the best stories, side quests, dungeons, characters and bosses. 3rd fav Zelda behind TOTK and OoT

The final fight at the end with Ghirahim and Demise was one of the best in the whole series. Impa and Fi are some of the most important characters of all time and it arguably has the best version of Zelda. The relationship between Link and Zelda make it a lot more meaningful and I also think it has some of the best dungeons and music in the whole series. It doesn’t feel like a traditional Zelda game because instead of riding around on a horse you are riding around on a loft wing while living up in the sky. Collecting treasure was also really fun in this game and I particularly enjoyed visiting places such as Bamboo Island, Fun Fun Island, Pumpkin Patch Landing, and Thrill Digger. The Silent Realms were also pretty interesting and fun to speed run through. Overall I had a really good experience with Skyward Sword and I think more people should give it a chance especially because of the dungeons, music, characters, and story.

Didn't care for Girahim at all but Demise bro, THAT guy might honestly surpass Ganondorf as a threat for me. He steals the show it's too bad he's only around for one game, definitely a guy who is scary but you definitely respect the guy.

My opinions on it since it originally released haven't changed at all. It's definitely not bad or even my least favorite Zelda. My main gripe is definitely the motion controls. And hey, Twilight Princess on the Wii and Metroid Prime Trilogy are similarly plauged with them too so it's not an isolated incident with just SS. Anyway, the motion controls just aren't fun for me, just unresponsive and shoved in everywhere. Say what you will about older Zelda Z targeting combat but it was always engaging compared to this where it just feels gimmicky. Haven't played the Switch version yet though so who knows maybe it's better. I'm open minded about it. But on all other points i agree. Music, atmosphere, world building, dungeon design, yeah. I'd definitely say it's better than BotW and TotK from a fun factor.

BoTW might be interesting for the exploration, but, it's boring exploration that leads nowhere. I remember TP, riding on Epona, just chilling around and bam, you find a place where you can use a temple item and get a Heart Piece, or maybe you find a glowing insect or a poe. Or just find enemies that would change the music theme. I loved when that happened. WW also had that sense of exploration, the unknown and how you found islands and figured out they would be important in the future (and they were). Majora's Mask world was interesting, but it truly shined with the diverse cast and the sense of wonder. If you used a guide and defeated the game with all the masks, you simply won't get that moment at the end credits where you only see the masks floating in the dark void, tempting you to find them and unlocking the whole ending. OoT is a masterpiece, beautiful world, an intricate lore, a powerful story and a variety of theme that intermingle with the story in such ways that they can't be taken aside. Just, a masterpiece.

Here’s the right order: 1. OOT 2/3. WW or TP (idc which order) 4. MM 5. SS 6/7. BOTW or TOTK. TOTK is better alone, but because it’s so similar to BOTW, it doesn’t have that same discovery factor BOTW had. Either way both are horrible Zelda games.

Not just the companions, but Link himself is so completely flat and unexpressive in the two newer games. And these are the ones where you can't even name him, so I feel like they could have just made him his own person, and drop the self-insert angle.

I played Breath of the Wild first and when I played Tears of the Kingdom it was interesting to see how the areas changed. I love how open and free the entire over world was from the sky islands to the surface to the depths. For the first 50 hours of gameplay I didn’t do a single dungeon and instead just wandered and explored the islands surface and depths, uncovered over 60 shrines, activated all the towers, upgraded gear equipment and armor, activated over 20 lightroots, and completed many side quests all before even attempting any dungeons at all. The first dungeon I ended up doing was the water temple 😂😂 I ended up at Zoras domain well into the game and I thought it would be a good time to get back to the main objective and story lol but that’s how free and open the world truly is. Breath of the Wild has a more well balanced story but Tears of the Kingdom has superior gameplay, abilities, and fighting mechanics.

Nice perspective for someone who only played all recently. My problem with Tears is that it was iterating on a concept that wasn't as interesting to me in 2024. Shrines in 2017 was a fine concept. In 2024 was a pain in the ass for me, especially after hundreds BOTW hours and multiple replays. Dungeons got a theme but mechanically they were a downgrade over BOTW. We got unique boss fights but BOTW skill based boss clicked more with me. The overworld activities felt more something to waste my time than something memorable. In the end TOTK was the weakest 3D for me entry for me with a big gap to BOTW.
