@@atomicsamurai9742 elden ring has far better combat,it would be a joke to compare them.Ocarina of time was influential but something can be influential but very flawed or average by todays standard.(for example,super mario bros on the nes is the most influential 2d console platformer ever,but was improved upon by smb3 then again many times.)Elden ring has far better combat than any zelda game. The slow motion in botw is nice but it is only really there to help casual players and is not very fun or rewarding.The swimming like a zora was fun but was limited to not going underwater and there were hardly any water enemies,so what was the point!?The gliding is very nice,but limited by stamina and just not needed in a game where there is fast travel and orse riding.The spectral steed in elden ring can jump very high in multiple areas,similar to rivalis gale,and the spectral steed is summoned instantly. While climbing is nice at times,it was also a pain in the ass,repetetive and mostly boring. Botw was a great game,but anything it has that elden ring does not have is not needed or even wanted.It had so many big design flaws. The world was very much lacking anything interesting.Side quests,gathering items,finding shrines,puzzles etc all just felt so repetetive.900 korok seeds but only about 10 different types of puzzles to find them.Hardly any enemy or boss types,shrines all looked the same and alot were repeats of 1 of 3 combat tests of strength or no puzzle and the spirit orb was just handed to you. Elden rings exploration was far better,it had no flawed design like climbing,weapons breaking etc. Elden ring has an incredible variety of all things:armor,weapons,builds,npc's,enemies,areas,bosses,secrets. Botw was extremely underwhelming in these ways.

@@ppo9200 I disagree respectfully, I've beaten dark souls 1 2 & 3, played bloodborne but never finished it, elden rings open world started to feel like padding by the end, the spectral steed did nothing but make the world less tedious to treverse, the fact it had a double jump doesn't really help the matter much, the combat while riding it was clumsy at best, the main parts that I liked most were the dungeons they were expertly made and had lots of secrets, and the fact you can play online mutiplayer and help friends that was sick, those are its strengths On the otjer hand those bell ashen summons you get along the way make the game ridiculously easy as you can team up on bosses, by the time I got the mimic there was nothing that could really stop me, by the end it just felt like another dark souls game but with so much padding with the open world, breath of the wild used a new in house engine with real time physics, look up gamespots '' things you didn't know can do in breath of the wild'' theres like 11 parts, people discovered things you can do that the developers never even intended due to the complexity of the physics engine, but elden basically uses the same engine what the souls games have always had its over a decade old at this point and it shows to people that have played these games before, maybe this is your first souls game maybe thats why your so impressed but to me its a good game nothing more, botw and witcher 3 take silver and gold elden ring is just the runner up of the last generation, in my opinion ofcourse, all in all good game nothing groundbreaking or anything that pushes the genre in any way other than maybe the scope of the world, Each to there own tho just an opinion mate

@Blarblur I don’t think I agree on this point. Obviously this is more a subjective opinion, but the way I play, I keep a lot of upgraded weapons on my characters with a variety of movesets and ashes of war. I’m a big time invader in FromSoft games though, so that’s part of why this has developed. But because of this, I’ve been able to play with pretty much every weapon type in the game (thoroughly might I add) and they’re all pretty distinct. We can group some weapon types together though in all fairness. Colossal’s play similarly to colossal greatswords. Greatswords play similarly to great axes and great hammers. Straight swords and katanas are similar as well. Spears and great spears are an easy one. And finally fists and claws. But twinblades, curved swords (especially powerstanced), daggers, thrusting swords (great or otherwise) all play very differently. Plus with the DLC, each new weapon type is incredibly far removed from anything in the base game. Light greatswords, thrusting shields, and the beast claws in particular.

The thrill and a amazement you get from any souls game and ED in particular is beyond not only zelda but any modern game. It's hard to find such a modern game that swallow you in a whole new world that push to ask for more until you feel empty when you beat the game. No Zelda game bring that feeling and really rarely any few games does.

Writing this before the vid but my opinion: I’ve beat both Zelda botw and Elden ring(dlc included) and honestly Zelda botw was the first open world game I ever explored and it was perfect I loved every single moment of it and have replayed it many times since. With this being said though after playing Elden ring I got incredibly into the souls series playing dark souls 3 and sekiro ontop of it and I am an absolute fan of these masterpieces they truly captivate you in their immersive worlds. finally beating a boss you’ve been stuck on for a day or a week or even a year maybe longer is so satisfying and fills you with a sense of power, relief and happiness souls games convey all these feelings cause they are difficult, they are known to be difficult but at the same time they are so godamn good. Like I said beating a boss feels incredible in them due to their difficulty for example Godfrey on my first play through took me days to beat but when I finally did It felt absolutely incredible. It filled me with absolute joy and this kind of joy I didn’t feel until my first rpg which was Zelda botw. so all in all which do I think is better? Well I think they both bring some incredible things to the table and I love them both the same but if I had to choose one it would be Zelda botw as although elden ring is such an incredible masterpiece as I’ve said and I recommend everyone to play and persevere through it, Zelda botw will always have a special place in my heart as it’s what got me into rpg games and it’s what gave me this feeling that I only found once more in souls games. Also if you have the chance to try black myth Wukong DO IT. I got it on release and it was one of the best game purchases I’ve made since Elden ring.

And i think eldin ring having harder bosses near the end of the game is pro not a con it makes you feel all the more better when you defeat them and gives you a Sense of accomplishment. Those two are the games I’ve spent the most time playing in my entire life. I agree with pretty much everything you said. Here’s my two cents: I find the BotW world much more enjoyable to be in. I remember spending hours doing nothing really important-just walking around, interacting with NPCs here and there, cooking, climbing, just chilling. That’s something I can’t see happening in ER. I wish ER had some of the armour set styles of BotW. Like, if you wear this armour set, you become resistant to fire, for example. I know we do this via other mechanisms, but I like this approach as well. On the other hand, BotW could learn a thing or two about boss variety from ER, and I wouldn’t mind a more challenging boss fight as well.

In Elden ring instead of cooking you can craft different items,and lots of armour sets,weapons and other items give perks like different resistances or strengths.Obviously build variety is so much better in elden ring. Botw severely lacks variety in every way:weapons,armour,builds,items,enemies,bosses,areas,puzzles,quests,shrines.Everything is very repetetive and very low in variety. Elden ring destroys botw,but botw is still great.

What’s funny is even though Elden Ring has *some* armor sets with little unique bonuses that set them apart aside from raw defense stats (and the DLC added a ton more as well), FromSoft themselves have done this better in the past with Dark Souls 2 of all things… I know, the black sheep of the Souls trilogy. But seriously, a ton of the armor in that game has little added bonuses that are pretty creative at times. Adding extra spell casts (back before they readopted the Demon’s Souls mana bar), stat boosts, I think one item speeds up the rate at which you drink your flask, another improves your “jump” and poisons nearby enemies. It’s no where near BotW in that department, but it was better than Elden Ring.

Imagine u got a weapon early on that was stuck behind strength, then you started investing in strength, but after some time u got a weapon that u think might suit you better then that strength weapon but it's locked behind Dex. Now u will regret investing in strength and if u wanna re-spec u will have to use a larval tear(granted there are many but there are still limited of them putting a restriction on you. I felt like nearly every experience in BOTW was unique to me. Being able to climb anything, glide anywhere, use intuitive physics, weather, elements, and items all make for an immersive world that I constantly got lost in. I had several moments in BOTW where I realized I had done something unique and I was treading a path that no one else had done in quite the way I did it. Elden Ring has bigger and bolder exploration moments but I knew it was curated and I wasn’t the only one experiencing that moment. I would temporarily get lost in the moments of Elden Ring and appreciate them, but I knew I was playing a video game because there were always choke points and paths I had to go through with the limited traversal options. BOTW obstacles would constantly have me asking myself, “can I do that?” Answered by “whoa, that worked” and then realizing I could have solved the obstacles 20 other ways. When Elden Ring presented an obstacle it had a linear answer that I could easy look up the online for the solution

It also ruins the excitement that comes from finding a new weapon where in other games it could drastically change the way you play the rest of the game.

I've been waiting for a video like this, just so I dont have to make it myself xD Its gonna get long, so bear with me, TL:DR: I dont agree with some points, but your video is still amazing BTW, cca 11:09 you miss a chapter for Graphics ^^ 1) To the first point. I honestly feel Elden ring did it worse. You mentioned BOTW having balancing issues, which I dont find is true. Of course, sections with guardians are hard, but they are hard no matter if you are there early or late, they do crazy ton of damage even with top tier loot. But other than that, you are always put to the same level as the enemies are, thanks to the plethora of lootable weapons. Elden ring on the other hand either makes you feel overleveled or underleveled. The game absolutely butchered any sense of middle ground and the "Now im at adequate level" feeling that Fromsoft can make. And somehow even tho ER restricts you in what you can do (The shardbearer lock), it still doesnt do anything to make you, as you say, "strong enough." I even dare to say that even tho ER have much more amazing and scenic world, it doesn't do anything with its exploration since the stuff you get is well... not worth it most of the time? Recently I heard that in nature, when you are a predator, you don't have to be the strongest. Just be more trouble than you are worth. And thats Elden Ring dungeons for me. Mainly the ones where you can get ghost gloveworth and similar shits. Really the only thing that matters from exploration are upgrade materials for weapons and flask upgrades. But exploration wise most of the world feels empty, because only thing you have there are painfully annoying and boring dungeons, invades, or copy paste enemy encounters just to fill the void. Legacy dungeons are peak tho. And yeah i agree BOTW is more grouned while ER is edgy and dramatic. Both have its charm and depends what one prefers 2) Here I Agree with you. Both games really are kinda tame in exploration and then have some standout pieces among tem but yeah, again, fromsoft cando better. After games like Bloodborne, Sekiro adn Dark Souls 3 where all the music is so distinct and out there, elden ring just sounds like "Any fantasy music ever, but make it EPIC" XD Cant say id listen to any of those since they arent my kind of videogame ost to listen to but I get your points ^^ 3) BOTW Is more inovative. Yes. Moving on 4) As you said, the games are miles apart with what they wanna show and what hardware they are on. Of course ER takes the cake here. BOTW has a certain charm in it, but ER is absolute peak of dark fantasy. 5) I agree botw id overlooked and weapon durability is tiring or annoying, tho its the one thing that helps with the balance of the game. Cant say ER Would have fun combat tho. When I saw gameplays I was like "Wow, this game must be so fun with how many options does it have!" and no. It isnt. It doesnt matter what class you play and what class of weapon you main. Essentially everything in this game feels like a battle of two mentally challenged kids with a stick they try to call any fancy name cuz they just watched the last episode of Power Rangers. essentially is just a prettier looking Skyrim wher you have Fast bonk, Slow bonk, and Special bonk with sprinkles on top. Which is even why I dont agree withthe next point, still, personally, but I do, which is that it makes a great fun combat in Practice, as I feel it does that only in theory. There are so many weapons, enemies, etc that it should be fun! It isn't. Mainly even because the enemies for the most part feel insanely unfair, tanky, and overpowered, no matter in which part of the game you are and if you are under or overleveled, which is something you mention at the end of the video, so at least I see its not just a me problem. Thanks for a great video ^^ - Arak

I got BotW at launch with a switch, beat every shrine, and got enough seeds to max upgrades. I barely remember any of it, the world was super empty, there's like only 7 types of enemies, and outside of like 2 town themes I don't even remember the music. Gliding and climbing was fun as hell though. I remember pretty much every little experience in Elden Ring, because they were all super impactful. It has a proper dungeon design with secrets and upgrades, and some awesome hidden areas and side quests. It was honestly just a massive passion project and it shows. BotW felt unfinished to me, with only hyrule castle feeling like a proper dungeon area. ER on the otherhand, feels completely polished everywhere with tons of builds and replayability. ER feels like a once in a lifetime game.

So I'm kinda like the person who wasn't into Souls games and became SUPER into them in the last 4 or 5 years, as someone that for the longest time was super into Zelda. And I still am, but it really showed me just how many problems I have with the Switch games. Enemy variety, progression, unique areas, lore, weapon variety, item variety, is all stuff that is basically non existent in Botw/Totk that Elden Ring some how knocks out of the park. But the thing is, the puzzles are where Zelda can really shine, but imo it just doesn't. Puzzle design in Totk especially feels like a huge step down from that of Skyward Sword or Twilight Princess. Back when I first played Botw, I was much more forgiving of the stuff it was lacking because of how well I thought it innovated, making a really solid frame work for future games in the series and nailing exploration in a way I hadn't ever really seen. But it turns out, a lot of the issues they must've not seen as issues, because they persist in Totk. Shrines and Koroks for example: extremely repetitive reward system, makes the areas you explore feel like you're just getting the same thing everywhere regardless of where you're going, and the reward itself becomes useless at a point. It would be so much better if there were more to do, like quests or something, but it's just shrines and koroks even into the late game, because 90 percent of the quests I kinda just deem not worth experiencing. Like, the system was "good enough" to me the first time, because it gave you an alright excuse just to explore the cool world and scenery. But it really doesn't hold up on repeat playthroughs. The point is, Souls games, not just Elden Ring but basically all of them, I eventually realized scratched a lot of the itches that I had began to feel I was missing from Botw. Even when Botw had just released and I was still in "this is the best game I've ever played" mode, one thing I couldn't do was get far in a Master Mode replay. Like, I realized I had no desire to go back to anything in the world, because there weren't really definitive rewards and worthwhile challenges to overcome. You could imagine how that feeling really became bothersome for me in Totk what with how it's so similar. But with Souls games, I'm constantly replaying them, to the point where I've procrastinated playing a lot of new games do that. Something about the constant improvement, dozens of potential builds, different choices, etc just feels so much more conducive to replaying. I could spend all day talking about this topic (As you can see I'm pretty passionate about both of these franchises lol, this has to end somewhere), but basically, that's my perspective. One thing I'll leave you with is that back when Dark Souls Remastered came out on Switch, I played the demo they had for it. Now I knew nothing about the series besides it was hard and there are knights and stuff. I played for like 5 minutes, had no idea what the hell was going on, and thought the attack animations and roll animations were terrible and unresponsive, went, "why would anybody want to subject themselves to this," and didn't play any Souls stuff for years. Fast forward to 2020/2021, a friend of mine convinces me to get Dark Souls 3, and I said, why the hell not, I probably won't like it. But this time, something was different. I had a lot more free time, so I didn't mind trying to adjust. My friend explained a few basic things like the upgrade system, and how the dodging and stamina worked. And after a while, I realized, hang on a second, this combat and metroidvania exploration is actually like some of the best shit I've ever seen period. And thus, I became a massive fan. These games are really obtuse if you go in blind, but if you get just a few tips, you figure out the basics, and then suddenly you can actually play the game for what it is. So, the point is, sometimes it takes trying it again to realize whether you really like something or not, I'd totally recommend you give it another go if you haven't. But I do understand, it's not for everybody, though.

@ I have tried Elden ring and demons soul and while I take not much issue with the gameplay I just don’t like the type of world and characters this is. There’s no reasons to do anything, the music and atmosphere feels boring. The game doesn’t feel difficult in a fair way but moreso in a grindy way like they obviously just want you to level up before you can survive any hit. But more importantly The world feels so dead and I have no motivation to save it lol. Despite that I will agree that technically it’s a superior game in so many ways than the Zelda’s but it’s definitely a game that just isn’t for me. And I’m not unfamiliar with getting into new series or giving games a second or third chance it’s just I realized I have zero interest in the souls universe,mood or aesthetic. With time my taste does change so perhaps someday. it’s just low on my list of game priorities to really get into souls

Elden Ring is better. It has more weapons, world variety, more enemy types, more lore, more outfits, better loot, more complex dungeons, and interesting combat mechanics etc. The only reason to prefer Zelda is that it's cute, and it's on a handheld, and it has puzzles. Although half of the "puzzles" quest lines are more of scavenger hunts, and tedious resource gathering. Elden Ring chose to be hard by making combat challenging, and Zelda chose to be annoying by making you stock up on things like food and weapons that probably shouldn't break or should just replenish on their own. Elden Ring new where to focus it's difficulty... on the actual combat. Not preparing for it. Even stamina depletion goes away if there isn't combat. Still both are must plays.

in my opinion, combat in Elden ring, especially towards the late game, isn't meant to be fair. Melania for example, is the greatest sword fighter in the game, undefeated, she isn't meant to be fair, she is trying to kill you, not fight you. also Malekith, a gods pet who is protecting the rune of death, isn't trying to be fair, he is trying to stop you. in short, in my opinion, combat in Elden ring isn't about being 'fair' or 'balanced'. its about surpassing insurmountable odds, killing the unkillable. i'm not trying to invalidate your opinion, just share my take! hope someone sees this and gets a new outlook on the game, and i hope Hud sees this, great video!

@gooseguyfilms4460Ай бұрын
Just started the video, but these games are completely different and a completely different medium to compare. Both are more fun in different ways. I like Botw’s exploration and environmental storytelling more, but Elden Ring’s combat is crazy (it’s dark souls, obviously). Elden ring has way more character customization and flexibility, and Elden Ring has (trying to be unbiased, because the actual Lore and history in botw is really interesting if you ignore the actual central plot) better lore and history. The world itself, is far more grand and majestic in elden ring, but botw has an unparalleled coziness and beauty. There is no better world, that’s purely just your opinion. Comparing Elden Ring’s music with Botw’s is like comparing Tchaikovsky with Beethoven. Both were absolutely amazing, but they were completely different! Tchaikovsky had a far more romantic style and excelled in storytelling (I would say botw is more like Tchaikovsky in this analogy) but Beethoven had grand, thematic music meant more to just play to the audiences emotion than play to the story he was trying to tell, (This is more like Elden Ring). Elden Ring’s music makes the player feel something in relation to what is happening. What’s absurd, is that Zelda actually has more Thematic or narrative writing in its score, meaning it focuses far more on the feeling of the story in important moments (the divine beast scores are underrated in their theme writing, as is the Hyrule castle score and several more); that being said, botw does a really great job with ambient writing too, (even the subtle piano scores can be related to story elements though). Both games are so different, you can’t compare. The Graphics and art style are like comparing apples to bananas! I like Elden Ring, but I much prefer the vibe of Botw personally. I just think comparing them is futile, but regardless, it is interesting to hear people’s opinions. I was one of the few people that didn’t really seem to enjoy elden ring as much as everyone else, so I like to try and understand what they love so much about it.

Elden Ring because it doesn't feature weapon durability. Moreover, if they did feature it, it'd have been like in Dark Souls where you don't lose your weapon, it just becomes less effective until you repair it. Nothing breaks up the combat like having to pause your fight to choose your second and third favorite weapons from a roster of backups you didn't want to be using, but are now forced to. Barring that, I would find them difficult to pick one over the other, but I got sick of dealing with that and stopped playing BotW at around the halfway mark. Shame, as it was otherwise a great game. One question, this video is two weeks old why are you using Breath of the Wild and not Tears of the Kingdom? but I would pick Elden ring of BOTW but if we talking about TOTK then I would pick TOTK over Elden ring due to creativity and exploration, and also I feel like I have more purpose in TOTK than BOTW and Elden ring. Elden Ring gets boring for me though I guess its because I played it 4 or 5 times. The issue I have with Elden Ring is that it suffers from what all open world games have and thats lack of meaning to the main story and quests. Playing Elden Ring alone with no KZbin to help explain stuff you wont know the story and lore unless you read almost every item you get, which is why linear games like DS1 and DS3 I love more because it feels like I have to do things this way because its important where as with Elden ring I can take my time and do what I want which takes away the importance of becoming Elden lord which. But there are ways to fix this such as make killing bosses feel like you actually changed something in the world or becoming Elden lord actually feel like you saved the world, you have to do so much killing bosses that can drive a normal person mad and in the end all you do is sit on a chair (throne). And BOTW also has this issue fighting gannon feels meaningless and the world doesn't feel like it was effected much by him besides Hyrule castle. Why I like TOTK more is because it fixed that. when you first reach the ground you have to go to the base the characters set up near Hyrule which makes the threat feel more real as other npcs actually not just talk but actually do stuff thats related to Gannon. Not saying BOTW didn't do that but it was very little. Elden Ring does show its destruction in its shattered world but if I become Elden Lord what happens do people get saved? infact if you do side quests they intend to die at that point I might as well not do it so they wont die. Ik TOTK gives the ability to players to beat the final boss if they wanted to early just like BOTW which is one of its flaws but can also be one of its pros if you look at it from a dif perspective but personally I don't really like it but it never troubled me at all. Im not saying Elden ring is a bad game at all Im not hating, Im just pointing out it does have flaws that kinda break immersion. Elden Ring is def a masterpiece but it still has flaws that all open world games have. I still think about how the hell an old game like Witcher 3 still has better side quests and choices and overall main story than recent open world games. If Fromsoft would focus on story as well then Elden Ring would be close to perfect. The Lore of the game is amazing but I had to watch a KZbin video for it. tbf thats all of their games but still. My wish is to have a game with Souls like combat with Witcher level story telling and side quests. (that would be the perfect game to me)
