I used Cinema 4D for years and can't get it back now. I just don't get how an open source project is by far less user friendly and harder to achieve the simplest things such as coloring an object and making it glow. You have to almost be a rocket scientist to figure anything out in Blender. MIND BOGGLING! I hate Blender so much but I have to use it now unfortunately. Makes me want to give up on it because I used to do things so quickly and easily in C4D and this is just a jump through hoops program.
@jamescombridgeart20 күн бұрын
@@JMarvelous23 there are most definitely way easier ways to colour an object and make it glow than this method haha. Like a few clicks for real, this is a much more advanced procedural approach. But I feel your pain, it's hard to become entrenched in a software and be forced to change ❤️
@JMarvelous2319 күн бұрын
@jamescombridgeart feels like the blender UI wasn't made for designers but engineers and scientists. I think it should be intuitive and easy to grasp and it's not. There are many other things I could mention aside from coloring an object and lighting it. Just baffles me how an open source project seems this messy. I want to love Blender and use it but at this point I'd rather pay $900 a year to use C4D because its more fluid and easy to learn new things and accomplish more for me anyways.

Man i love this but 10% to 15% preformance gain is not small nor irrelevant especially for the kind of scenes in which you'd need to use dynamic LOD

Thanks for explaining this. Have you shared your Blend file of this setup anywhere? As it would be good to have a look at and play with to see if it could be improved upon etc?

This looks great, and talk about timely! I was labouring on a set of concrete stairways. I think this would be so much better as a geometry-node-based system, except I haven't invested the effort to learn geometry nodes. A moment later, I took a break to watch a few minutes of KZbin. Boom! The perfect solution just randomly appears in my feed. 😃
@jamescombridgeartАй бұрын
Haha great to hear! You could absolutely use the stock array tool for stairs too. Although this setup would allow you to randomly instance a collection of different steps for added variation!

Is there a node that displays the result from a node? like a numerical value, rather than just anonymously pipes it through?
@jamescombridgeartАй бұрын
@@brandosbucket not that I'm aware of, but that's not saying much 😉. Besides from checking vertices count in viewport stats that is.

you can use the AO node in shander editor for the same result

True! Very similar results. I like that I can be very selective about which meshes cause the blend with this approach, either are totally valid depending on your needs

I'm 16 minutes in, and this has gone from something to have on in the background while I work - to taking over my main monitor in full screen. 😭😭 How long have you been practicing your craft for, James?

Thanks for the kind words! I've been a concept artist / illustrator professionally for about 8 years, and used 3d and Photoshop as a hobby for about 5 years before that. I reckon I switched to blender around 2017. Hope that helps!

What specs do I need for a PC to REALLY render animation?
@jamescombridgeart2 ай бұрын
Depends how fast you want it to render, and how complex your scenes are tbh! I think so long as your hardware is from the last 10 years or so and you have a GPU at least maybe a 1070 or higher you could render most things with a well optimized scene, and patience.
@blenderismsАй бұрын
Hi, the absolute minimum and have a really good experience with rendering is - any CPU you can find from the last 5-10 years, just try to get one with a higher single core performance (meaning the GHz number is higher) For a GPU you can probably find a second hand 1080TI, which is a total monster for it's money and VRam (it has 11GB, which is the most out of the 10xx and 20xx series) for RAM it's nice to get 32GB. This I think is a minimum. For example for quite a while I was working on an AMD Ryzen 3400, 32gb Ram and a 1080TI. Later I found a really good deal on a used RTX3090.

Hi, my main suggestion or question would be could you make a way that this sand shader, when mixed onto the rocks looks the same scale as the sand beneath it. Because I would imagine by default, if using UVs, the scale could look very different. It would probably only really matter up close, but just suggesting.
@jamescombridgeart2 ай бұрын
Totally! Using box project with the mapping nice set to object or generated would be a good work around
@leifnКүн бұрын
Not sure if that is possible with Geo Nodes, but for RVT i think there is some normal blending going on as well to not have a sharp edge between the objects.
