We love the idea of Seabourn and are going on our first in Sept...Mediterranean cruise. It is the dress code on non formal evenings that puts us off a little....in the restaurant is a short sleeved shirt or smart designer polo ok for men, or does it gave to be long sleeved shirt? The dress code isn't very clear. In practice is it more relaxed than it sounds?
@theposhtravelblog7 күн бұрын
@@angeladilworth8619 We’ve just embarked Encore today for a Greece and Croatia cruise! 🥂🎉 No problem with a polo shirt or short sleeved shirt and trousers on the non formal nights. It’s very relaxed to be honest just smart casual most nights and that applies to all dining venues. No jackets needed but gents do tend to wear them on the formal nights. Ladies smart casual most nights and a cocktail dress or trousers and a top on formal nights.Its lovely! We are doing an experience video on this cruise so look out for that coming beginning September! Have a great cruise, it will be hard not to! 😂🎉🥂🚢

First time in Santorini we don’t know what to expect. We stand in line for 2 1/2 hours and luckily made it to the last shuttle going back to the ship. It’s horrible! Our second time we went to Oia for the excursion and when we came back we went straight to the line luckily it’s only 30 minutes on line. Santorini really needs to do something about this. I feel sorry for the donkeys it’s animal abuse!

@@theposhtravelblog That's a helpful summary - thanks! It will be interesting to see how Explora develops the product: I've seen a few comments online which suggest they are making changes (the fab welcome bottle of Veuve is apparently no more - they've changed brands, though that's not something that would bother us) and introduction of a Cruise Director/more entertainment.
@theposhtravelblog8 күн бұрын
@@Kensingtoncruiser Interesting. We liked the low key entertainment and had some great guest acts, no cruise director but that didn’t bother us we rather enjoyed it! 😂 They’ve switched out the Moet to a different brand (we wondered how they would make any profit the way it was being dished out!) and that’s sad to hear that they’ve dropped the Veuve. Nothing stays the same. Will have to go on again and do a review to see if it’s changed! 🤗

Rarely a disappointment on Explorer. Just a stunning ship. Our experiences with Regent (esp the Explorer-class ships . . . Explorer, Splendor & Grandeur) has been similar to yours - 99% superlatives. One other key point, while some might see a Regent ship as generally an older sedentary crowd, in our experience like yours there is SO much offered to do that you can truly stay busy every minute of every day if you wish. We were on Explorer in Japan in mid-to-late-March last year (2023 . . . final leg of Regent's 60-day Grand Asian Exploration cruise for some others embarked with us), and we thoroughly enjoyed learning of the culture and history . . . the onboard enrichment expert gave exceptional lectures inundating us with a thorough overview of Japanese history & lore, providing a lot of context to some of the castles & shrines we visited. At that time, Japan was only recently fully reopened post-COVID, and in some ports we were the first cruise ship to call on that city since 2019; bands & pier-side greetings with cultural performances were common at each stop, the locals eager to show hospitality and gratitude for our return (quite unlike the reception seen currently in some European ports some of the populace of which have suddenly decided that there can be too much of a good thing, have begun advocating against tourism, and in some cases actually being belligerent toward visitors). Oh, and yes, we probably ate at Pac Rim 4 nights . . . we've nearly memorized the menu 🙂.
@eah818511 күн бұрын
So surprised to hear about "average" quality food on any ship in the Norwegian Cruise Lines Holdings family. That's especially true of a line which for which Chef Kathryn Kelly (with whom my wife & I have had cooking classes) put in so much time and effort to elevate its cuisine and create that line's Culinary Center. Likewise, were I to rank NCLH's lines, I'd call Norwegian the Chevy, Oceania the Buick and Regent the Cadillac, so it's surprising a line that's up the scale from their "entry level" product would be less appealing. I hope this was just a one-off ship-specific experience for you, as I've heard much better reports about Oceania from others. Oh, and one more thing, I truly empathize with how difficult it must be - yet how significantly bad was your experience which prompted you - to create this video. My wife & I also are cup half full people and rarely have instances where a bad aspect overwhelms the totality of our experience. Hence, I can recognize from your well-chosen words that you wouldn't take valuable time from their life to dwell on a negative subject were it not truly worthy of a suitable objective warning to your audience. I was very happy to hear of your experience with the Asian restaurant onboard. My wife & I are avid Regent cruisers, and have never been disappointed with our food & service experience in their Explorer-class ship's Asian fusion restaurant, Pacific Rim. I'll say the unspoken - perhaps it's the all-female staff from the Maitre d' & Hostess to the Service and Bus staff . . . I've never seen a team of people work that well together in any of the restaurants on any ship we've sailed. I have to share this one experience - we met a couple poolside and decided to dine together in Pac Rim one night; as soon as we sat down, the wife very cautiously interjected into the conversation that "we so-love Pac Rim that we just wanted to let you know that when we eat here, we go hard." She then proceeded to propose that we start by ordering one of every Appetizer! Oh my, you should've seen the staff's excellence as they did a masterpiece of coordination bringing & removing & replacing Appetizer after Appetizer . . . which, they coordinated with the chef to plate with four pieces instead of the usual three. I wish all restaurants (not just those onboard) were as well-honed in service as Pac Rim. Now, all those accolades to Pac Rim (for which there aren't sufficient superlatives in our language) aside, we had a very similar experience as you did with wine in Chartreuse onboard our last Regent sailing - it was so bad, that (again, reluctant to harp) I brought it up to not only the Maitre d' but also gave extensive details in the end-of-cruise onboard survey. We had the same 20 minute+ wait - seated and no wine came, served an amuse bouche, no wine came, placed our order (and asked our server to see about wine), no wine came, Appetizers served, no wine came, Mains placed on our table - still no wine. I happened to see a rather official looking gentleman wandering among the tables in full coat & tie with a sommelier's pin in one lapel and a miniature corkscrew pin in the other . . . oh, the Head Sommelier, I can get wine from him . . . so I got his attention, asked him to please provide us some wine. He then left us and went to one of his sparse and already overworked inattentive staff and told them to serve us next - apparently actually serving wine was beneath this dapper gentleman. We waited another several minutes waiting for wine before our server arrived to check on our Mains, and we asked her for wine . . . thankfully she immediately got us some wine. Like your experience with the orange juice or the bar drinks - this division of duties is more reflective of a Union Shop with a Union Steward who's desperately in need of negotiating leverage for the next contract so s/he permits no one to do any duties other than those narrowly defined for their role . . . it is certainly not reflective of a luxury level ship where reasonable requests are generally fulfilled with all deliberate speed. Those REALLY BAD experiences do tend to stick with you!

We just finished a Seabourn cruise and I *never* saw a wine list. They just brought to the table a white or red to choose from, and usually they were not very good. In the bar, I never saw a list, so I just ordered a chardonnay or pinot grigio, and they were never very good. I was extremely disappointed. (Also, they never seemed to have light beer for my husband and if they did it was only bud light). We recently did a VIking cruise and there is no comparison on wine/beer -- Viking is head and shoulders above Seabourn.

I enjoy your videos but do wish you would take the words “incredible” and “amazing” out of your vocabulary. The English language is rich with adjectives and, really, very few things are actually, literally INCREDIBLE. You are a refreshingly understated change from the over-the-top American cruise bloggers but if you want to live up to your “posh” claim, try some less banal superlatives to describe the good stuff!

My Mum, Dad and I are heading to Spain and Portugal on The Bolette in September from Liverpool (we live 25 mins away so it’s very ideal) and wanted to get an idea on what we might experience on there as it’s my first time on a cruise. Food looks great (glad to hear about it being quieter during the later dinner session as we too are late eaters. We also can’t wait to be sat on the balcony in the sun (might have to wait a few days for that) 🙃. Table tennis will be enjoyable (hopefully the age range on the ship means it’ll be free most of the time). We go into Liverpool often so it’ll be very novel to get a cruise from there, especially to the Mediterranean. Thank you for the video, really thorough and informative.
