My wife and I had the opportunity to travel on this ship last year. It was quite the experience. Our room came with a king size bed...we were shocked! So for people who are use to king beds they are available on this ship. However, any stateroom on this ship is very warm and inviting and a pleasure to stay in.

Looks a beautiful ship. We came very close to going to this ship in December from Bali to Sydney. Fortunately it was a good call not to go because a cyclone passed through northern Australia ahead of the ship, and it was a wet weather cruise for much of that trip. I saw somewhere on one of the reviews a comment about cleanliness on Explorer. Showing us around your cabin was great, although I thought the shower at 4:08 could have done with a scrub. The other issue I have heard with Explorer is out of control medical centre costs, with one passenger in a tripadvisor review said they were charged USD $5000 for covid treatment. I know cruise ship medical centres are expensive, but that sort of pricing, if true, is taking advantage of passengers. Glad you had a good time though, I enjoy watching you both. Keep up the good work !
@theposhtravelblog9 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! Funny you should say that if there was one thing we were surprised at was the cleanliness of the cabin on arrival, it needed a little bit more tlc where cleaning was concerned. We are used to Seabourn and the cabins are always spotless on arrival. Luckily we didn’t go in the medical centre thank goodness!!😂 It was fabulous though and we loved every minute of it..

Enjoyed this very much. Just a couple of things. The ship holds 750 passengers but did not appear to be even half of that amount onboard. Hard to believe with such a expensive ship that they serve afternoon tea in sachets and tha manner in which it is served. Maybe as it is not a British ship and they do not know how to serve afternoon tea?

Hi Doug, thank you very much. It was in fact full on the sailing we were on but never felt crowded. I understand it’s very popular to call this the “most expensive” cruise ship but that can’t be correct. It costs about half a billion dollars to build this ship but there are numerous other cruise ships that cost over $1 billion US to construct. RCCL’s Icon is in fact a $2 billion ship.

The Icon of the Sea is in a different class than the Explorer. When I say class, I mean structually. The Icon is design to carry approx.10,000 people. The Explorer is a smaller and more intimate ship that is very well appointed. The ship was built with some of the finest materials. This was the first ship we had ver been on where the stateroom bathroom was outfitted in marble, double sinks, tub and rain shower.This was considered a standard room. The personal service you receive on that ship is unmatched. They truly cater to their guest. Many travel magazines have written articles about this ship. You may want to read some of these to help you better understand why it is recognized as so.

@@theposhtravelblog you commented on the reception on one of the ports. In Miyako they also set up exhibitions and interaction with the kids getting you dressed up as a samurai and also giving out gifts of your name written in Chinese or Japanese. When we departed, those kids were dancing and music played for at least an hour before we set sail…. They were still there an hour after we left shouting goodbye and come back soon. It was very very humbling and from a city devastated by the tsunami. The mayor of the city also laid on a shuttle every thirty minutes to go to a few places of interest. I just catching up with your excellent videos. After having been on Regent several times, you have very much the same impressions that we have had. I noticed you stayed in their most entry level room. If you go up just one notch to what they now call the Serenity Suite, you will get a bathroom with double sinks and a bathtub. When you book a named a Penthouse or higher, then of course, there is a Butler. We recently did an Athens to Istanbul on the Explorer in a Seven Seas suite. It was incredible. Also, I saw where you were running late for the show and had a terrific dessert. We chose to skip dessert in Pacific Rim and told the wait staff why. They offered to have the dessert delivered to our room so we could enjoy it after the show. It was great! Again, you filming and comprehensive reviews are excellent!

We need to do a comparison video. It’s a difficult one! Personally we are leaning towards Regent as the finer cuisine, but we were on the Regent Explorer and our friend is currently on the Voyager and isn’t as blown away as were on Explorer, which is a theme in our followers comments. We just loved the choices on both, but Pacific Rim Asian on Regent just beat Sakura on Explora, and Prime 7 on Regent beat Marble & Co on Explora. However there really wasn’t much in it, and we’d be extremely happy to sail on both again. Explora didn’t have a main dining room, they only had the different dining options, whereas we found the main dining room on Regent Explorer to be quite an affair and so many choices it was excellent. In a nutshell I think you’d be pleased with both, the dining options are excellent. 👌
@markengelmeyer60545 ай бұрын
@theposhtravelblog That's super helpful! Just from the appearance of the food and both your reactions between the Explora Food Review and this Regent video, it did appear as though Regent looked one notch above Explora, while both looked very good in general. We just booked our Honeymoon on Explora I through the Med. We chose Explora because it's a newer more modern ship, better pool/outdoor amenities, (potentially younger crowd than Regent?) - we're both 35, and honestly it was about half the price as Regent across the board. We paid $7k total ($3,500/pp) for 10 nights Athens>Crete>Malta>Rome>Florence>Monte Carlo>Merseille>Barcelona. It's our first true luxury cruise, so we're pretty pumped and going to spend a few days in the Greek Islands beforehand. I think if Regent was only say 10-15% more expensive than Explora with 2023 or later ship build, we would've gone that route, but Explora seems like too good of a deal to pass up right now.

But, I wish people who upload videos here would give us some idea of how many passengers are actually on these so-called luxury or ultra-luxury ships.I did comment on a previous blog of yours as I found the ship devoid of passengers and yet you said it was full. Here at the beginning, pf this vlog you are in restaurants and only the two of you there in the restaurant, at another point only you two are at the grill nobody else. Sunday Brunch more food than people there, shots of the theatre far from full. I realize this is a small ship but, there seems a very small number of passengers..

The ship was full! We tend to eat later when everyone has rushed off to the show especially when we are filming so not to disturb anyone, and always request a quiet table! This was quite a busy cruise, excursions wise, so I expect a lot of people went to bed early due to the early starts, maybe that was why the theatre was quiet.. We thoroughly enjoyed it and it didn’t feel busy even though it was a full ship..
