I'd like to also add, if you have a camper or bbq, make sure you have full propane tanks! You can cook, boil water to make it safe, heat water for bathing, etc. If you have a camper, you're living the fluffy life in a short term emergency 😅

Not to be a Debbie-doomsdayer , I believe that one of the next biggest crisis is going to be our water supply, but that’s just my personal opinion. I don’t feel that the infrastructure money has been going back into the infrastructure to make sure that our water doesn’t get tainted. Other than the economy, of course. Edited to add If you live in warmer weather state like I do with no basement, please please please do not store your water in the garage especially if your car is in there . It will end up tasting like gas, ask me how I know.

Yes, you can live weeks without food, albeit uncomfortable weeks. Without clean water, a few days, especially in a hot climate. Dirty water, you'll die of disease within a few weeks. The people who have spent the last decade laughing at preppers must be getting a little bit nervous about now...

If you're taking the bags out of boxes to make more room, just cut the instructions from the back/side of the box and put it in your storage container. Or tape it to the package. There's ways to work around things.

I grew up on a ranch driving tractors and farm vehicles. I feel like even riding(driving😂) a horse is helpful with learning turning etc. My kids grew up on dirt bikes and yes it helped so much with their driving! I would think your kids would be better because of the mountain bikes. Thanks for the food storage ideas!

For instructions … cut that out of the box and slip it in with the mix r tape it on the outside of the bag. For the driving … When I was in HS, driver’s ed was a class we took. There was a semi trailer in back that had mock-ups of a driver’s seat and a video that would play where you pretended you were driving. The more “enterprising” members of the class would pedal to the metal and then Mr. French would yell at them that they were speeding. Good days … gooooooood days …

As a fellow (late) millennial (born in 81) and a farm kid, on the driving thing - yes, they needed to start early on something smaller and less powerful than a car. I remember starting on an ancient riding mower with the cutting deck removed at about 8. Then small motorcycles (like a 70-110cc) and 3&4-wheelers at 10-ish. Then by 14-ish it was tractors and driving the truck in the hay field - by legal permit time, all that was needed was internalizing the actual roads laws, not the learning and operating a vehicle part. On the slip side, my city-kid niece was born in 91 and never operated anything until driver's ed, took 2 years to learn to drive and pass the test.

The last part of your video made my day! My son is 26. However, he was 24 1/2 when he finally decided to get his license. He had "secrectly" been driving a friends car for years. So he already knew how to drive.... He still scares the living daylights out of me sometimes. I learned in the church parking lot. Never had a 4 wheeler, only a regular bike. My sister scared my mom so bad that she finally hired a driving instructor. Hang in there!

My dad taught me to drive about 457 years ago and he used what is perhaps a strange way to do so. We attended a church that was a 30-minute drive from our house and it was down a mountain so he was not real keen on putting me behind the wheel and just hoping for the best. What he did was had me sit in the middle of the front seat (that was in the days of 100% bench seats) and he would sit under the wheel but allow me to steer. I couldn't go too fast because HE was controlling the accelerator and the brakes. All I was doing was learning how to steer correctly to keep the car where it should be in the road and not hit other drivers. I don't remember but I'm guessing that maybe he taught all my older brothers and sisters to drive using this same method. When I was allowed to actually get under the wheel and drive all by myself, I felt very comfortable in doing so because I was rather expert at keeping the car between the ditches. I never had a lesson of any kind from a driving instructor or anyone other than my father. I passed the written part of the test because my somewhat older brother told me when I had a multiple-choice question to just answer the question as though I were a 90-year-old woman and I would probably get the right answer. Question: When you come to a four-way stop sign do you (a) As you approach the stop sign, honk your horn to worn other approaching cars that you are coming and proceed at your current speed (b) When you see a stop sign slow down and if you don't see anyone coming just go on through the sign at a reduced speed (c) When you see a stop sign come to a complete stop, look both ways and if no cars are in sight proceed carefully through intersection. Using his advise I took the test and passed it and using what my father had taught me about actually driving, I passed that part too.

I feel what your saying. I taught all 5 of my kids how to drive. My son was so busy trying to look cool, with mom and three siblings in the back, to stop at a stop sign. After a long discussion on our way back home(lesson over) .I explained that the sign facing him was for him to stop not everyone else for him.🙄 My poor daughter the week before she took the drive test I bought a crew cab truck. She had previously been practicing with a mid size suv, she had to learn how to parallel park and to park within her own space 😂.

The ATV did not help my skills at all. I learned in a cemetery... mom's joke was if i hit somebody, they were already dead... now, had my dad not passed when I was 14, I would have been driving a standard when i could teach the pedals. Short girl problems.

Great Video Christine! I took drivers training in 1972 in June and the school did it with class time and then driving. But i already knew how to drive because I drove tractors and lawn mowers on my Grampas farm. Now we help our Grandchildren learn to drive by driving our old 1999 truck in the back fields. I will admit that i advised my Grandkids to drive the way i do and i think it helped them to be defensive drivers. Take them out on some back roads or an empty parking lot and repeat everything over and over they hated me for it but just the other day 1 of them said they were a good driver because i drilled it in their heads. I will take that as a compliment!!

When the kids were in the car and driving zero radio, all cellphones were off and they had to be 100% focus on driving. Oldest had depth perception issues so that was a hassle. I didn't teach backing up until they were confident in driving. They learned that a pull through parking space meant they could drive on the way home. Like my father before me once the kids were on the actual road they drove if they were in the car. Thousands of miles and a lot of hours. Because of our location they started highway driving in the second week... before they learned to back up. Also I was better at it than my husband.

So glad you did the Mountain House comparison, because that was the go-to prep in my area pre-Covid. I don't mind the ChiliMac because a buddy showed me how to add beans and cheese. Everything with hot cheese on it is tasty on a cold night in the tent. ha ha My favorite prep pack item is non-salted green beans because smooshing the top down and draining the can gets you "free" water in case the pump doesn't work. I have cooked rice using bean water and corn water, but the sugars tend to make it burn.

Maybe take the 15 year old to a family play place. We have a couple in the nearby big city. Go cart track sort of thing. It is driving but simpler and lined with bumpers or crash pads just incase. Take him to a golf course one day and just drive a golf cart around. They can only go up to like 10 miles an hour? Some small towns (mine and most nearby) legally allow things like a golf cart but more powerful to drive around anywhere on the roads (licensed, tagged, and registered). Things like a utv or a polarus. $70k for a golf cart that can go 30 miles an hour. But I am sure that you can rent one or a 4 wheeler, for a reasonable price. Put it on a trailer, even renting a trailer. And take the kid out to a place to go driving around for fun. To get more comfortable with the basic mechanics of driving, before adding in all of the rules of the road and operating a car. You guys know a ton of mountain biking places. Some of them surely do 4 wheelers.

We ditched the grocery store. I grow our almost all vegetables and the majority of our fruit, seeds at home. I buy cooking oil, grains, beans, flours, sugar and coffee in bulk online quarterly. Baking supplies like yeast, baking powder, chocolate chips once a year. I buy small amounts of meat, a bunch of dairy, eggs, and what I cant grow at the farmers markets. Its a way different way of living and cooking than we had before the pandemic but I love it and I don't worry about running out of food in an emergency, or about the age of my freezer. Inflation in groceries hasnt really touched us either. Im not saying we never have an emergency, or that i wouldnt use one in a pinch, we do. Its just that I think the stores charge outrageous amounts for stuff that costs them pennies to throw together.

Written test , a physical test. You cannot start learning til a certain age. Lots of rules! I believe Germany is 180 practice hours?... TBH, whilst slow, I think it is better to have older, more competent/ practiced drivers on the road than the consequence of the opposite.

On the last bit about teaching a teen how to drive. Yeah. I get the concept when it seems like the kid "just can't get it." My daughter's first 10 hours were madness. We never had the resources of "rural living" where you can teach the kid how to use a Power Wheels, a 4 wheeler, a tractor or even drive down back woods roads where nobody else really goes or cares. I'm teaching my daughter and for those first 10 hours or so, she was doing everything the OPPOSITE WAY of what I was telling her. And no, she's not dyslexic. The other day, she put the car in drive... And hadn't turned the car on yet. Another time she was driving at night and it started raining so I told her to turn the windshield wipers on. She instead turned the headlights off. Last week she got out of the car without turning it off... and tromped on the gas peddle in the process. At least it was in park.

And by all means, for things like backing up, parallel parking and the such, it's best to get out of the car and guide them through it like a crossing guard. I'm planning on teaching my daughter parallel parking either on a quiet street or in an empty parking lot.

The difference is, we could not WAIT to drive, to have a car , to move out, to have a job to be independent! I was thumping on the DMV door when I turned 15-1/2 at 8 a.m. to get my license! I don't see that in young people now ?

Put tuna and a small can of peas in your mac and cheese or some canned chicken and mixed veggies. So good and lots of added protein plus you don't have to break it up like you would the Spam because it's already done for you.

Iam born 82 and my dad was a driving instructor most of his life. He always gave US crap for having such easy tests. 😉 Sorry! (And for letting under age people drive.) In Sweden we can start lessons with an instructor at 16, but we cant actually get a drivinglicens until 18. And most people need 2-3 lessons a week for 5 month to learn. But it can be both more or less time. It depends on the individual and where in Sweden you drive. Driving out in the country vs Stockholm city is very different things. I have a friend who took her licens 5 years ago but she still cant drive in the city. Not safely anyway 😂

No, it’s not just you. The struggle is real. But I started driving here and there at 11. Then at 15 my parents paid for driving school for me. I had to learn on a stick. But my friends learned to drive in high school. That was so much better in my opinion. Now, we have people who don’t drive as well in my opinion. When everyone learned the same way, there was more consistency. My kids were raised in the city. They rode scooters, not bikes. I think they were at a disadvantage when it came to driving. So I’m lying in the bed I made!!

Any shelf stanle protein that you do like. Easy ones are canned meats. Like chicken, tuna, spam. You can find canned beef or pork, both like pot roast. But those cans are less widely available, and way more expensive. If you are at all good at canning (definitely a skill, requiring knowledge and ability). You can can almost anything. So whatever you like, personally. If you don't have the knowledge, it is learnable. If you are interested.

I keep track of the 60 count/ 5 dozen box. $3.98 was normal and went up to $4.98 right before 2020 really started. (Easter time was usually better to get 1 dz on sale prices, but I haven't seen that since 2019.) Prices fluctuate between $8 and $18 for the same 60 count box of eggs. I just don't understand. I don't thing one egg should feel prohibitively expensive.

I've done the drivers ed thing. It's expensive, plus the added road time and logging the hours, only to have to wait for months for the actual appointment to get the license. And paying for car insurance for a new driver is a whole other topic. Makes me want to spit fire to know that our "guests" coming into the country just get them issued immediately. Not trying to make this a political comment but the unfairness of it all is just infuriating. 😠
