Great video, Patrick's looking well as the compere. We had a couple of visits to the Stagger Inn over the past two weeks and thoroughly enjoyed the banter with the friendly staff and fantastic food.

I live a little inland, and live in a town where lots of businesses close in July or August, when the Spanidh have their traditional annual shut down. I like that the dozens of bars and restaurants are open all year round for the other 11 months

Having an apartment in Villamartin, we sometimes like to drive into Torrevieja late afternoon/ early evening for a stroll around and maybe some churros/ tapas/ ice cream depending upon the weather. Nice to visit, not sure I’d like to live there. I agree it will be a while before the port development benefits are felt by the town and locals - just read today that the hippy market is going to be moved to a park for about a year to allow for the renovation - I’m sure that will be devastating for their businesses, as few people will go out of their way to visit that market, but now most people walk through it and make occasional purchases ( it’s not all tat!) There are quite a few of our favourite Spanish restaurants in Orihuela Costa which also close for a couple of months out of season I do hope the investment in Torrevieja pays off! Enjoyed the video - not yet visited El Rincon, will try it!

Interesting video Barrry. Thank you. A couple of years ago I stayed with a friend who has an apartment on the far north side of Torrevieja, going towards Alicante. To my surprise, all the bars and restaurants were Russian except one which was Spanish. I tried some of them and they were spotlessly clean, had excellent service and really nice food. Not expensive either. Interesting to note that in all of them I was the only non Russian customer. They did make me very welcome though. 😀👍

I visited a friend that has an apartment. I did not like it as no Spanish culture at all. Would love to live near my friends but I cannot accept or want the lack of Spanish culture.

Well, last year we bought a property in Gea y Truyols, we love it,the silence, living between the spanisch people. There we still feel the spanisch way of life.

We stopped by there a few years ago and were glad to have only booked one night. The town has zero character and poorly planed with haphazard buildings of every type.

I have been in Torrevieja 3 weeks and heading to Alicante/Benidorm/Denia next week. It was a surprise to hear so much Russian and Ukrainian being spoken and it saddens me. Honestly can see it becoming an area for money laundering and drug trafficking in the not too distant.

Thats always the concern we have. Hoping that Torrevieja can preserve whatever Spanish culture is left. We've had a vacation property since 2017, hoping to come back this spring. Ps love Rincon De Jarras! Phenomenal pulpo! Mayor Eduardo needs to try and pivot their strategy not just as a holiday destination, but something more sustainable.....renewable energy, IT hub, WeWork Torrevieja.....some incentive for Spaniards to come to Torrevieja!!!

I watched your last two videos and you mentioned about how much property Ukrainians are buying in Spain. For a war torn country, there must be a lot of " black market money" about for them to afford property. Especially as we have loads of them in the UK saying just how bad things are in their home country and that's why they are all in the UK to find work. Not once has the UK press mentioned about Russians and Ukrainians in Spain buying all the property. They just tell us about the 100% house tax rise that's imminent because of the amount of Brits buying property and the locals not being able to afford to buy in their own towns. I'm glad you show us "behind the scenes" of a town. Like most places, if you get away from the touristy areas you get " real" food at great prices. I'm with you on mushrooms ! They are the devils piles !!🤮 Hasta luego 🏖

I'm surprised to hear the % of locals as opposed to foreigners especially Russian and Ukrainian. Are those 2 countries even part of the EU? You'll have to educate me on that cause I've been living in Australia for the past 34yrs I think it's not good news for Spain to be honest. Anyway thanks for sharing bigman
