I love the truck, dude. You got a damn nice setup. Only thing missing is a pair of red TriLite halogen beacons on the top. 😁 I'm planning on restoring an old rig somewhat like this as long as it's a American LaFrance. If I have no American LaFrance luck then I'll just stick to a pickup-based fire rig.

Any chance you can give me a run down on the basics of wiring to make the engine run like you did here?
@silvervette732
@silvervette732 Жыл бұрын
All the credit has to go to Rob @ shbox.com and Brendan at LT1swap.com, but here is the page I used to get the engine running, turning the factory harness to a stand alone unit. ( lt1swap.com/93lt1a4.htm ) scroll about halfway down the page. He has the minimum required wire list. Its like 8 total to make it run. All the pin out diagrams, and pictures to aid in identifying what's what. Hope that helps. It certainly did for me

I read your post on Cumminsforum from 2015, do you still have that wild second gen dodge with the engine driven air compressor and the air ride? I’d love some info if you made that air ride cab work out
@silvervette732
@silvervette732 Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, I don't have the truck anymore, I traded it for the 68 Camaro. The air ride was working in the truck when I let it go though. I can try to answer any questions. It might take me a few minutes to dig it out of the way back of the noggin.

@@silvervette732 I appreciate the reply, because the vacuum pump is needed for the brakes, what did you do about the brakes? An external vacuum pump? An entirely different system?
@silvervette732
@silvervette732 Жыл бұрын
@bildough I did install an electric vacuum pump from a powerstroke inside the cowl, but it only operated the HVAC, for the brakes I used a hydroboost master cylinder from a 97 and ran a LUK hydraulic powersteering pump from the bus, that was already attached to the air compressor, i just had to make a line with an adaptor to the top of the hydroboost, and mount a remote reservoir for the pump, that i got from an international 4700
@bildough2775
@bildough2775 Жыл бұрын
@@silvervette732 that’s sweet, I really appreciate all this info, did you end up figuring out the air ride cab? And how did the air ride work?
@silvervette732
@silvervette732 Жыл бұрын
@bildough i had the rear bags mounted, a ride height controller installed, and added a cab support bracket for the shock and track bar. Never did get the frame cross member in to tie it all together tho. I didn't drive the truck too much. But i did take it out local a few times. It seemed to work. But hard to say how much of a difference it made having the full air ride suspension. That made a world of difference by itself.

@@TehKneegrowplease The squarebody im workin on now has a 454, been sitting for 10 years. After i got it runnin i decided it would be best the tear it down, and re-seal the whole motor. Anything that had a seal or gasket was replaced. Minus the heads because i knew it ran well, had great compresson, and had very low miles on a factory reman . But it still gave me a chance to look it over completely, and go on from there, me personally that's what I would do. Then you can do the top end work, provided you know the history of the bottom end and that it runs well. As for the accessory drive, if you got the money to spend and shiny new pullys, go for it. I usually just run factory stuff. Sand blast them and powder coat or just rattle can them. If they're flakey obviously replace them. But a Set of headers and a nice exhaust... looks don't always matter, if it sounds good, people are still gonna look. And if it runs good that's even better.
