Though your video was informative, I'll stick with Farmina. Their quality is better than Open Farm as evident in their lower levels of Calcium and Phosphorus. Carna4 is the best, I do agree. I guess we have to pay for quality. I used Carna4 as a training treat.

If you love your dog DO NOT feed them just kibble. They also need Wet food as well or you will be racing your dog eventually to the vet with anal gland issues. A good mixture of wet food and kibble will keep your dog a happy, healthy dog. Its the same for cats as well.

I have a pup who was the only survivor of the litter, including her mother died at birth. My vet didn't think she would survive and had trouble with horrible blood work. So many things wrong. Started feeding Stella and Chewy's red kibble and her blood work has been straight down the middle perfect! It was amazing. I have since started addingore fresh food to her diet but still feed her the kibble as part off her diet. She's 7 yrs old now!

Hello, question about meals. So if the ingredient panel is based on the food BEFORE it gets cooked, wouldnt meal reassure us that there is a large amount of meat sources protein in there? Whether or not it's already a dried 'protein powder' so to say? I always tell my customers that at the end of the cooking process, fresh meat in a bag of kibble is so much lower on the list than it would seem at first glance while MEAL ensures that a good chunk of the protein does actually come from an animal source. Can you explain to me please whether or not this is accurate? I feel like meal, although rendured, is something you shouldn't hate when looking at a bag of kibble. I would much rather see a specified meat meal after a ton of fresh meat than a bunch of legumes/fillers after a ton of fresh meat. I might be wrong but I wish you would shed some light on this. My customers come in expecting an affordable kibble completely void of meals because the internet tells them its bad. This confuses the customers and makes it difficult to sell the more affordable but still higher end brands.

Right because most people that have more than a couple of pups can really afford these. You really should do your research. Any food with legumes can cause nutritionally-related cardiomyopathy. That includes peas, pea protein, lentils, chick peas, etc. The legumes are often used in grain-free foods and treats but I’ve seen them in grain-inclusive foods as well. I know this because I ran a rescue for 14 years and after using a holistic grain-free food, TWO of my pups ended up with cardiomyopathy. Both are on expensive heart meds and have to get very expensive heart exams every year. Talk to a Veterinary Cardiologist and they will tell you. The dog food industry continues to try to swipe it under a rug.

Most or all of the "boutique" brands are manufactured by the few large facilities that do "private label" extrusion based on company specs/ingredients. BilJac imo has the best manufacturing process of any of them cooking on small batches resulting in pellets instead of extruded kibble. Unfortunately their ingredients are controversial and the food never scores well. I used to feed baked kibble years ago either Wellness or Breeder's Choice(Avo-Derm). Extruded kibble has all of the beneficial ingredients sprayed on after cooling to my knowledge...

Ziwi Peak Steam & Dried is by far the best kibble, all the kibble on this video is junk food, Macdonald for dogs. I would never feed these junk to my dogs.

I am a RDN. Keep in mind if you feed your dog “soft” dog food. You can have teeth or gum issues unless you brush your dogs teeth every day.

if I was to spend $8 a pound for something it wouldn't be for dog food it would be for prime rib or New York strip for my dog. but I think my dog would settle for plain old chicken breast which is not even close to 8 dollars a pound.

I feed Victor Classic all stage life. I have raised, trained,and bred German Shepherds since 2010 and Dobermans since 2017. All dogs are healthy, good digestive, pass all health testing ( OFA hip/elbows,heart,eyes,thyroid) and pass embarks. Good weights! Coats are beautiful. And very cost efficient!

dogs aren't carnivores, they're omnivores.

I've tried explaining this to family about their dogs food but they just say "Oh whatever, this is how I've always done it." Yeah, and that's why your dog is always getting sick. It's starting to feel like animal abuse and pisses me off.

Interestingly, according to the American Kennel Club dogs can technically be considered omnivores (although their digestive systems absolutely do best with meat), and are not obligate carnivores the way cats are. I guess they picked up a few things from living alongside omnivorous humans for twenty thousand years!

This is why I think vegans who try to make their pets vegan should be charged with animal neglect/abuse. Dogs and cats are carnivores/omnivores!!! They need that protein source!
