I'm trying to decide between this LTD and the Guild Polara Night Edition. Those Guilds are great guitars too.

Awesome! Great guitar! Curious how the swamp ash affects the tone?
@Brykk
@Brykk Күн бұрын
@@CompanyGrip i cant say for sure that there is a difference due to the ash, or if its just a difference between two similar guitars, but i think mine is a little tighter on the sound. It seems like it is a little bit higher/tighter in pitch. With the bridge pickup in the tapped position, i think the sound is very similar to my strat. Of course you would never mistake one for the other, but the tone is just more similar to it.

Do the lockit straps make any noise against the pegs? Got a planet waves lock strap (different design) that i find annoying!
@CompanyGrip
@CompanyGrip Күн бұрын
Noise? Like squeaking or? You stick the strap button through the hole, the gate is spring loaded, so you could snap it against the button or close it yourself quietly if you’d like, then it’s a tight fit around the thin part of the button. I haven’t noticed any noise. Hope that helps!

My solid Hoxey neck has a tiny bit of relief, but A: solid necks are less stiff B: I use 56-13 strings string DADGAD Something I’ve noticed is that it’s not so much that the tone is that much brighter or the sustain is so much longer (though both are true to a degree). The thing is that the harmonic content of the tone doesn’t change much as the note fades. An aluminum guitar with an evertune would basically sound like a synth.
@CompanyGrip
@CompanyGrip 3 күн бұрын
Agreed! It has a great resonance to it. Maybe too much. 😆

If you get another body for it you should try an SG style one. It might work the best because of size.

@@CompanyGrip You are a SG fan you should do a video of your best 5 SG wannabes. Epiphone is not counted as it is basically an imported Gibson. But compare like ESP's Viper, Guild's Polara, and other models like them. You can just do a video where you talk about them and edit photos in for reference. You don't have to do an actual demo video. Just be interesting to know what you think of the SG wannabe body style.

Im starting to feel poor watching this channel lol. Just a thought though. Since this thing is so hollow did you try it in a room with a cranked amp? I notice you play with headphones a lot. Probably a good idea to try out with a loud cabinet to see if theres any feedback issues. Also what are the frets made of? Stainless steel and aluminum causes galvanic corrosion. It makes me wonder if theyre not stainless what are they and what is a refret like on that thing? Pretty cool though.
@CompanyGrip
@CompanyGrip 5 күн бұрын
Hi! Thanks for checking it out. The frets are nickel on this neck, but you could opt for stainless if you wanted. I’m curious about a refret too. I’ll reach out and see what they say! As far as feedback, I’ve done some louder testing. I don’t think feedback was as much of an issue as a resonance loop in the body. When I get some time I’m going to stuff some foam in there to try and tame it a bit.
@GretchZ
@GretchZ 3 күн бұрын
@@CompanyGrip having spent a good number of months with a Hoxey neck, I would never get nickel frets. They’re epoxied in, for one, so to get them out, you’re absolutely doing that thing with the soldering iron and the pliers, but the neck itself be conducting heat away from that. Do you just bake it and hope they fall out? 😬 So… be very kind to those frets. Pure nickel strings?
@CompanyGrip
@CompanyGrip 3 күн бұрын
So, I had an exchange with Kam Hoxey yesterday and he does say the frets are glued in like some other frets are and that a refret shouldn’t be a problem for a luthier. I actually do use pure nickel strings. 🤣

I think the Gibson sounds better but I'd put that down to the pickup and the metals in the bridge. However from what I understand, the build quality of Epiphone has gotten much better in recent years, but i'd still try before you buy.

@@CompanyGrip My first guitar was an Epiphone and it was rubbish. My Epi Tom Delonge Signature however was much better, plus it had a USA Dirty Fingers pickup in it, but the bridge was a piece of crap that kept buzzing because of the springs that held it in place. I definitely think in recent years, Epi have closed the gap between them and Gibson.

Its funny that no matter what brand or variation of these pedals even though they seem to have more functions always sound terrible compared to what they are trying to copy. If you like the concept but want better quality get a Tech 21 Fly rig. Youd think with the surge in great budget and clones these would sound better. Sometimes the real thing is worth it.

Seems gimmicky. Theres cheaper with more and better options and with better ease of use. I foresee issues just trying to turn it on if youre lacking that much space on your board. If it used a battery and had a make jack you could at least stick it right in your guitar jack since ive noticed clip ons tend to be fussy sometimes. Ill stick with my boss which has strobe.
