Yeah, I saw what happened in Syria and well it was like the Ted offensive at first it quickly became a Afghanistan collapse I never did suspected that the government in Syria would collapse so quickly I also heard that the ex president of Syria fled into exile. This is no doubt major below to Russia which used the Bases they had in Syria to help expand its influence and Africa as well as the Middle East, but with that gone, it’s going to make things difficult for Russia so I would say the collapse of the Syrian government is a major blow to Putin

I also have Gary Grigsby War in the East the entire Campaign, played all the scenarios, gotta move fast to take the Objectives like Kiev,Leningrad ,Kharkov etc ,usually taking your Panzer and Grenadier Division and pushing ahead of the Infantry as they are used to encircle large groups of Soviet Divisions, the Soviet AI begins to withdraw theirUnits fast also, plus any reinforcements the AI gets,they put them in those Cities and Surrounding area to block you.Also, I always start off the campaign/scenario by blasting attacking the Soviet Air bases, taking out thousands of Fighters and Bombers and destroying many of their top notch bases with the heaviest concentration of their Fighters and Bombers.One thing wish the game would allow,able to have you land troops via Naval Operations near close to Leningrad . Within 6 turns the Soviets have as many as 50 Divisions and Brigades surrounding Leningrad. Even I bring all my Panzers and Grenadiers Army Group North at a quick pace,can,t make much of a dent with only a Dozen Units, need the rest of my Army and Infantry movement points are slow,

I play the old Talonsoft """EUROPE IN FLAMES""' by John Tiller which has dozens of Battle scenarios from Sept 1939 to April 1945 Eastern Front, about a half a dozen Stalingrad Scenarios and complexity range from 2 to 10. Bought the game over 20 years ago when it was in Bookcase Boxed format

I think hex games are horrible trying to convey urban warfare. No levels on buildings or complexity of urban warfare.. Combat Mission needs Stalingrad but they keep trying to milk that later war crap.

I played WitE (1) and by the time WitW was released, the system was obviously borked (specifically for multiplayer). In multiplayer, the data miners ruin the game. Because that stupid game models every weapon system from Kar98 to 2,000 lb bomb, inevitably something is scaled disproportionately and over-efficiently. The data miners will figure that out, and spam units that have the unbalanced weapons. This especially true where the air war is concerned. The air war is too effective, and a player who micromanages the air assets will do far better than their side historically because air is capable of influence battle far more than it did historically.

OK, great. So now I'm waiting for "ARMORED BRIGADE - WWII - Ostfront" to come. With the graphics and effects of "Gates of Hell - Ostfront" the turn based mode with replay function from "COMBAT MISSION" and a campaign map nearly as huge as it is in "Hearts of Iron IV".

Wonder if you can play as Afghanistan government in other scenarios. Such as trying to stop the invasion itself.

The Mods make the total war game truly awesome.

I have been reading a book called Zinky boys on the subject. Its pretty intense, short interviews with veterans and mothers of soviets lost during the war. Highly recommend it.
