A few years ago, as my son was getting into 6th grade beginners band, he wanted to play the alto saxophone. I did allot of research that kept leading to Jean Paul and their AS-400 student alto saxophone. I decided to buy it. My son played it through the 6th and 7th grade and he loved it. This year, he was told to upgrade to a professional saxophone. I thought of Jean Paul first so I decided to buy the new AS-860 10th Anniversary edition. He says it's much better with smoother, quicker responsiveness, nicer tone quality and he says it just feels better in his hands. He said he'll be more then happy with this saxophone for years to come. This is a great, very beautiful instrument and sounds so amazing. Oh yea, and they have a professional sax technician check and set up every single sax they send out and email your technicians sound check of your instrument. Great customer service as well. Thank you Jean Paul! Very satisfied with this purchase.

Wow. I’m in Canada and I have a choice between a 26 in almost new condition for $1000 (they say replacement value of $2000) that is a two hour drive away, or a 23 also in good condition but with some cosmetic wear and tear, from a friend locally, so much less than $1000. As a beginner (ex clarinet player…) I should go with the 23. Right?
@SaxTuition8 күн бұрын
Go with the 23! As long as it’s in good condition 👍

That’s great but a China made horn does not stay in adjustment. Also some Tawainese horns. If you play a lot it’s going to be out of tune. That’s what u pay for is effortless tuning and resilience.

Similar...but...Midrange isn't the best for a test. High notes , low notes. Differing volume..That being said, the Selmer sounds richer, fuller.

To SaxTuiti0n host, Hi. Which sax would be best for me - Alto or Tenor to get if the $6oo.oo difference would not be a problem, which should I get as a beginner, as an adult? Which would be more functionally the best, all around? Alto?

Hello Jeremy, You are an exceptionally gifted teacher. I played alto from 5th through senior in high school, just a semester of bari in college-not enough , what a blast!! -once the pads were seated properly in a shop. I walked away from sax, and have focused on Baroque recorders (a very easy transition from sax) and piano and some other things, and was content to be done with the saxophone. But it was an old friend I had abandoned, and it was finally time to reconnect. Your videos have encouraged and inspired me, and have enabled this step. Thank you.
@SaxTuitionАй бұрын
Wow - thank you so much for those kind words, and your support Daniel 🙏 I’m so glad to hear you’re reconnecting with the sax! I also started in grade 5 so I’m sure we had very similar experiences in school. I’ve never tried a baroque recorder but I’m keen to check one out!

Hello, Jeremy! I'm a beginner/intermediate alto player, and I've been interested in buying a Yanagisawa metal mouthpiece (tip opening 7). At the same time, I have been recommended Otto Link metal mouthpieces as starter metal mouthpieces. Currently, I use 3d printed mouthpieces (not SYOS)-would it be worth it to buy a new mouthpiece like the Yanagisawa or the Otto Link?
@SaxTuitionАй бұрын
Hi there! I’ve actually never tried a Yanagisawa mouthpiece before so I can’t really give too much advice there, but the Otto Links are legendary and I played an STM for years on tenor. Definitely worth checking out!

The reed tip is SPOT on, I was using a chipped reed for a while before I changed it and when I switched to a brand-new reed, the sound quality improved so much that it shocked me! And I think I’m guilty of pushing my bottom lip too far over my teeth, I will try a more natural position tonight! Thanks Mr. Trezona!

Actually, for the price, not bad, but chuck that stock mouthpiece and spend the money with a good one. The Yamaha 4C will do the trick. That Meyer does that sax well. Thanks for your videos! Cheers Mate!

" You can make it sound like anything using a DAW" , then you didn't even use a sax sound on your DAW. What good is a synth strings sound when we just want to hear it sound like sax. : /

i've been playing a used jean baptiste from Sam Ash for 7 years. It cost me $200, and still plays very well. I also have been using jean baptiste 2.5 reeds since I started playing. Only ever had 1 non-functional reed ever.

When I started playing at age 5-6, I used Vandoren 2.5 reeds now after 10 years I use Vandoren 3.0 V12, and 3.5 plastic French cut reeds.
