Great review. As a former trumpet player who has lost his embouchure this might be a way back into musical expression with a wind instrument. The only part of this video that bumps me is 10:35 -where a non-sax sound is played like a sax. It’s a misstep a lot of keyboard and synth players make when playing a realistic traditional instrument sound with keys. If you’re playing say, a flute sound from a synth, you can’t play, let’s say, chords the same way as you would a keyboard sound. Also the choice of sound for that track seemed to not match the track.

Very informative video. Also, I didn’t know you had a follow up course. I took your beginner course about three years ago. I’m thinking of upgrading from a YAS 280 to a YAS 62. Also have been flirting with the idea of the Selmer Axos. Any opinion on that horn? Anyway, thanks for the tips on pricing. Very helpful.

I really wanna learn tenor or even baritone sax but I'm weak with fairly small hands so probably best to start off on the alto 🥲 not to mention tenors and beyond are way more expensive!!

Instead of referring to reed ‚thickness‘ you might better refer to reed ‚strength‘ - as far as I know, harder reeds can have the same cut as softer ones. Strength is determined by how easy they bend under pressure, and reeds are then sorted into categories.

What if they took a real sax or clarinet mouthpiece and reed and coupled it with pressure sensors and a microphone to convert reed sounds (sine waves and amplitude) into midi notes to trigger the instrument sounds? That way the Embouchure would be a true crossover... Next, a harmonica MIDI controller...

Our son's music school rents their Yamaha student saxes for the princely sum of 50€ a year! You may also want to mention the instrument support options. The strappy style is OK for someone like you with a strong frame, but for others they may want to "splurge" on the Jazz Lab Saxholder Pro which supports the weight of the instrument on the shoulders, and not around the neck. It also avoids the straps of the harness-style carriers, which can constrict the diaphragm,

Great, until the last part that didn't sound anything like a saxophone. Sounded like somebody rubbing a balloon.

Your Latest Trick. Nice playing. Chris White is a great saxophonist. Love the live versions of Romeo and Juliet and Private Investigations where he plays great solos

Good choice of these sax lines, I love them all! The only one I missed is the iconic soprano sax in Englishman in New York.

The saxophone is NOT an easy instrument. I wish people would stop saying that. It's not impossible but get ready to put in a lot of discipline and work. You are going to have to figure out how not to squeak and to put up will sinus issues, head ache's and the list goes on and on. Good luck...

For $99 you can get an i8-pro that has an actual 5 pin MIDI out that you can use to control any synth with a MIDI in port. Including a modular synthesizer with a MIDI to CV converter. For people that don’t want to use a DAW, you really need a 5 pin connector or a MIDI host device to convert USB to midi or CV/gate.
