I feel guilty buying ware from you rather than throwing my own! But with cooler weather approaching, firing becomes more tenable in my 'situation'. I promise to get busy throwing this winter!

I uses treadle sewing machine. It’s a much nicer experience than loud aggressive electronic machines. Definitely more control. These are gorgeous. I am just getting into pottery so I’m not ready for such an investment, but this looks like the way to go for those doing pottery regularly. I hope to find videos of you using yours on here.

Do you get any build up on the kiln brick from the wood ash? Or does it burn out with gas heat at that temperature? Love your work.

Making a high fire propane downdraft kiln out of an old octagonal electric kiln, and using it as a production kiln is about the coolest thing ever.

I need to do an electric kiln to propane gas conversation job at some point. I bought, foolishly a factory made gas kiln, it was absolute rubbish, strangely They are no longer made here in the UK, managed to get rid of it at a 80% loss lol Oh well, we live and learn 😊

Oh Simon I’m so worried to do a raw glaze firing 😬 I saw an earlier comment about the slow start to a glaze firing, but can I use the glaze’s that I have in my studio, which is recipe’s from Mastering Cone 6 Glazes John Hesselberth & Ron Roy ? 😊

Did you use this technique? Difficult to give accurate answer but factors like how long did you have the pot in the glaze ? I have not had problems myself particularly, also thickness of wall of pot to consider ?
@TheInfoworks

@@sleachpots Simon, thanks for your interest, wall thickness 3 - 4mm, maybe the glaze was too thin. I'll take a video the next time I try it, cheers

Hej Simon, thanks for the info long time watcher here since the Spain days :) Question. Do you alter the firing rate as the pots are raw ? Thx
@sleachpots
@sleachpots 17 күн бұрын
Yes I fire like a bisque to start with,slowly to start, after that I kind of speed up and is much like a normal glaze firing.

I always single fire my student’s pieces. Mostly because the kiln is at my house which is 30 minutes from our classroom. Two transports is better than four! The only casualties are potter error-things not attached well enough that come off on the way home. Bubble wrap is a wonderful thing😊Perhaps a mirror in the glaze bucket to see how far to lower the piece.

What if any changes did you make to your glaze formulas when you switched to raw glazing?
@sleachpots

Basically using the same recipe no change. The difference between bisque and dry green ware is little in this respect, I think.
