Thanks for this video. It makes me happy that someone else thinks it's the stupidest place ever for the oil filter. I love that little vehicle but sometimes I wanna bury it in soft peat. Oh, Fram is the worst oil filter you can get, BTW. Inside the filter's end cap is thick paper, like a cereal box is made from. When the filter media starts getting plugged, the oil starts bypassing the filter media and goes by the cardboard end cap. Wix and equivalent filters have steel encased filter media, so the oil must go through the media and get filtered. Oh, and if you turn your oil bottle/jug over and pour with the spout at the top it won't glug as much and will pour smoothly.

I have a 97 Geo Metro 5spd 1.0L and I know its a little slow on takeoff but I can get mine up to 90 mph on the interstate with no problem. I like my car and have had it since 2008 and I the only reason I would ever get rid of it would be that it has air condition but it hasn't worked in years, the summer time in Florida sucks, lol.

I drive a '99 5 spd 3 cyl daily. It goes exactly the speed limit pretty much and that's on flat ground, it's like they engineered it to go that speed and just called it a day. . It's one of the only cars that I have ever driven where, it doesn't matter how far you press the peddle down, it goes pretty much the same speed if you floor it or not. I try to use the least amount of gas possible and only drive it around a small town, mostly on flat streets, it's prefect for that. The few times I am on the highway, it easily goes 65...but that's about it. The 1.0 will keep it going at that speed but don't expect to pass anyone. Any type of hill, expect to downshift and get a run for it.

Can a bad cover gasket be the cause of soot on the bumper? Spark plugs were just changed and still soot on the rear bumper by the exhaust
@cdogg17873 жыл бұрын
Sounds like it's burning oil. You can pull one of the new spark plugs and see if it's fouling up (black and oily).
@allornothing01103 жыл бұрын
@@cdogg1787 i did...and it is :( What does that mean? The gasket?
@cdogg17873 жыл бұрын
@@allornothing0110 it is a common problem with these engines. Most likely it is the piston rings. If the rings do not seal properly, oil will get past the rings and get burnt with the gas. The car I did this repair on has been burning oil for years and we keep a close eye on the oil level and add when needed. I have never seen soot around the bumper so it's probably not burning as much as your car.
@cdogg17873 жыл бұрын
@@allornothing0110 If the o-rings that are part of the valve cover gasket (they are in the middle) are bad they can allow oil to enter into the combustion chamber as well and cause oil burning. I would suggest doing the valve cover gasket and o-rings and see if it helps.

@Hughesburner2 жыл бұрын
Drive a '99 metro 1.0 5 spd daily....I had a '95 2.Slow Jetta in the early 2000's and then a '03 Beetle with the same engine right after the Jetta died. Jetta was at least better on gas than the beetle and had more room, the Beetle was worthless and too heavy for that engine. I would take my metro over both cars for sure...figuring in initial cost, gas mileage and overall maintenance.
