Hi Stephen, your shots and videos are amazing! I also just got back from Alor, and I wanted to ask how you manage to keep your underwater macro videos so steady without any shake. When I shoot handheld underwater, my footage always turns out shaky. Did you use an underwater tripod or some other stabilization method? Could you share a picture of your fully assembled underwater camera setup?
@StephenMartin001Ай бұрын
Thanks! Hope you had a great trip to Alor! Yes, I use a tripod for macro shots. I really dislike shaky footage. I use the XIT 404 tripod legs. But, it looks like that company is now out of business. While this isn't my exact setup (picture below, I don't have any of my exact setup), it's very close. The only difference is I have a macro port and lens and I use the monitor in an inverted position to make the setup more streamlined. And, I also have lights. Your colors are amazing. The camera movements are amazing. The destinations are amazing. As a fellow cinematographer, I just wish you took several shots of the same subject and used them in your edit. It would be a better story. But that is just my point of view...

Stephen, I’m 2 years late so I hope you see this comment. This is really excellent work! The big stuff like the GPO and wolf eel are terrific. However as a macro (still) UW photographer I really appreciate the superb macro sequences, especially the nudibranchs, which must be technically challenging on video. I like the tight editing synchronized with a well chosen soundtrack. The context shots were well planned too, and a thanks for including the Deception Pass bridge! I learned to dive just south of here, and have recently relocated back to one of the islands with a view of this water, but after decades of tropical diving wasn’t sure about diving in the PNW again. Your video is almost enough to get me back into cold water! Thanks for the inspiration.

Wow, thanks so much for watching and your thoughtful comments. I really appreciate it! While I love warm water diving, cold water does have a lot to offer. Plus, we live here! You've inspired me to put out another cold water video. Thanks again!
