Do an engine swap SR20DET. The best you can do is partial repairs where you can still run it like you said phase by phase til you get an extra money.

When I park up and get out. I forget about what I thought walking up to it. I always look back at it and smile. It's just pure fun. You're right about cars nowadays just being big on horse power. Give me some corners and power that can be used.

We recently copped a 66 plate 1.4T and every day I look forward to driving it. It's quite cushy inside and a beautifully 'creamy' drive. That 1.4t engine gives a nice 'push' in the midrange and the small size means it can be hustled around the roads with some vigour.

For the welding I'd recommend buying complete replacement sill panels. They're still pretty affordable, and as you're planning to do the paint anyway it gives you the opportunity to make sure it's properly rust-proofed inside and out.

Nice ride, a stock C5Z06 with GM test driver did the Nurburgring in 7:59 something so a slow trackday is no problem with this car, i had a yellow manual C5 cab 2002 earlier but changed to a 2010 C6 Grandsport Callaway SC606 love it, toured Germany - France last summer from Sweden and despite having 600+ hp it still is like 28-30 mpg at highway amazing fuel economy.

Nice car but like mine they fall apart after 70 thousand miles sadly not a car you could daily drive in the UK , you know its fragile when my old 2011 Hyundai i10 shopping trolley never went wrong but after only 2 months owning my 500 the door handle fell off , the clutch and gearbox went bang costing me near £1000 to fix and suspension broke and the blu tooth system broke and ive not bothered fixing that lol , I know these are cheap cars but the build quality is very poor.

You are not alone. Many manufacturer opt for cheap parts. Although, you might have been particularly unlucky.

I've been waiting for an update! I was nervous waiting for that rotary to be cracked open. I'm in a similar spot right now. The outer sills are trashed and i have to fix the inner before putting the outer. I had to make my own rear corner piece in front of the rear wheel inside. The exact spots he said go bad XD. I have everything except the rear subframe and gas tank off. I've started dealing with the rust and making my own pieces. But I have a low mileage engine and a rebuild kit on order. I still have my original engine and am cracking it open this weekend anyway. If I had some more courage I'd be posting my journey too, but I don't lol Can't wait to see more of your car and journey!!❤ good luck!

Really enjoyed the video and agree that for a street driven car, the factory more or less knew what they were doing. I've owned my RX8 for 21 years this year (original owner of a pre-ordered initial batch North American car.) Just subscribed and will keep following the build.

@@DriveVice Thanks! I've accepted it's part of the family now and with me until I die. I would say tastefully modded: Racing Beat Revi Intake with ram air duct, Cobb AccessPort tuned by MazdaManiac, Axial Flow shifter, Racing Beat midpipe, Mazdaspeed Cat Back, Mazdaspeed front and rear strut bars, Racing Beat sway bars and end links, KW v3 coil overs and Rays MazdaSpeed MS-01S Wheels. Still going strong on original engine. Will replace it with my 20B when it finally goes. Also have the track FC in my avatar picture (full bridge N/A) and have another FC that's a Half Bridge Turbo. It's an addiction. :)

@@DriveVice I would not rebuild, nor use that rust bucket. You can find a RX8 with a blown engine for less than $500 (with way less rust) and get a used engine for about $1500-$2000. Been there done that.

My local Rotary shop said that most RX8 engine rebuilds required new housing due to carbon build up. This all because of the side port exhaust.
@DriveVice10 ай бұрын
The side ports are on the irons though, not the housings. And yes, lots of carbon build up on the ports, but it can be cleaned away. The housing becomes smooth and shiny after the regrinding.

A street port doesn't do much but make the idle lumpy in a Renesis from what I've read. I love the series btw!
@DriveVice11 ай бұрын
Street port shouldn't change the idle, but only increase the lower end of the torque (if the engine is healthy to start with), but as Josh mentioned, it's not the best choice for longevity. Bridge port is what make the idle go Brrraaap
