Disagree with most of this. Hate to say it, but it comes across as 'go back to what I had as a kid'. Becoming pixelated and turn based would do nothing for the franchise. And in the past summons were just larger than life spells and nothing more, but now they actually operate differently (such as Remake/Rebirth). If they went back to just being spells that cost a lot of MP they would be less interesting.

More than a remake I would like to see a true remaster. improved graphics and characters design add more to the story as you said to make the story more cohesive. Balance the junction system Add more monsters since ps1 was limited in hardware the monsters were a bit repetitive. Make triple triad more balanced replace the chocobo mini game with something like chocobo racing or something. I don't mind action RPG, but turn based JRPG add much more depth and strategy to the combat as long as the game stats and junction get fixed to balance things out. Add a Hard mode and Hell mode.

XI and XIV are so, so different 😭😭 XIV's combat is active, strategic, dynamic, and very fast-paced. As someone who never played it until this year, it's a top three system for me.

Title is clickbait, basically the quote is questioning optimal release times to ensure the hd 2d games sell well. The reason being thatbthese devs think the market is limited in popularity, so they want to time the releases of their many many hd 2d remakes in a way that enables the consumer to buy the next one comfortably. There is 0 mention of them not making more. In fact with the recent DQ 3 HD 2D Remakes huge popularity, they will likely makes heaps more, but as the quote suggested they wont spam us with them, just release them at set intervals.

I don't understand the confusion here. The market likes these high quality HD-2D remakes & games, but if Square Enix were to saturate the market with HD-2D games, especially remakes like every old FF, DQ, etc (which some online acquaintances of mine are demanding) ... interest would wane, sales for each game would shrink, and eventually they wouldn't make money on the releases. SE want to keep it special, release a great game in HD-2D every year or two, and continue their varied game output. At 10:11 you say "There's nothing wrong with too many of these games coming out", but that ignores the market realities that Hayasaka mentions in his quote, when he implies that SE executives are thinking carefully about how to choose and pace these releases. The fact that YOU and a few people want as many HD-2D releases as they can make doesn't mean that the market would support those releases. If I personally were to get every retro-flavored game I want developed and released in the next 3 years, those Japanese videogame companies would go out of business ... because my taste in games doesn't equate to dozens of million sellers like DQ3.

HD2D is absolutely continuing Dragon quest hd 2D surpassed square enix expectations by a country mile There’s also DQ1 and 2 being remade in that style You’re not paying attention to sales data if you think the style is done

He's 100% correct, those HD2D games will eventually became nothing special if the market get saturated with them. Something regarded as unique will turn into being perceived as generic and low effort

I'm ok with it going on the backburner, but only after we get: Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, FF Tactics, FF6, and one completely original JRPG with mature/political storyline, a cohesive set of characters, and a proper overworld map.

I wish there was an option to enable character animations that can be seen during battles. I understand how to OG games didn’t either because at the end of the day, the game is about grinding. It’s very very good at it. 😂

Personally, I don't think there's anything to worry about with HD2D remakes. Nintendo and its relentless hold over its software is the perfect example of why. They, along with other developers, know exactly what they are doing - and they KNOW there is a market for re-making/re-releasing older titles for gamers. Nintendo keeps most of those titles locked behind their subscription service, and hound anyone who creates emulators/emulation of prized titles because they know gamers what them - they want to drive people to their subscription service. Each time you release an HD2D remake of a game, you take someone away from that subscription service. This quote from the producer of Dragon Quest's latest is simply acknowledging all of this working in real time. They are cautious about flooding the market... because it'll take away from the subscription model (which our current generation is stuck in). We won't see HD2D disappear, it will only be used to drip out certain titles though and it will take some time.

Looking at the games you can't get into, it looks like you simply get worn out by games that have bloated battle systems. The games you picked (Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Bravely Default, Octopath Traveller) all have elaborate menu systems for battle input, but are simplistic when it comes to battle strategy output (even when compared to Dragon Quest games). IMO, these can be draining/unenjoyable because at best it feels like battle systems become chores that are more elaborate than they should be - and at the worst they feel like bland/chore-like mini-games that feel disconnected from the battles.

I was a big fan of Xenogears, Xenosaga, Xenoblade Chronicles 1 and X, but Xenoblade Chronicles 2 were not as much for me. For me, I think it was the bloated battle systems (filled with chain attack mini-games/repetitious combos, and disconnected from strategy), weird maze-like maps, WAAAAAY too much tutorial/handholding, and everything kind of felt like it was taking longer than it should. I'll try 3 again, but after 10+ hours and still in the tutorial section put me off.
@lindenstromberg685923 сағат бұрын
Octopath Traveller 1 was one I tried, so I skipped 2. Octopath Traveller, much like XC2, felt too bloated, the battle system was (much like XC2) more complex in the UI/battle execution,, but less complex in the strategy when compared to other RPGs like Chrono Trigger (simpler in UI/execution, but more complex in the strategy).

HD2D seems like branding for higher resolution PSX-style graphics from games like Xenogears, Final Fantasy Tactics, Dragon Warrior 7, and Suikoden 1/2 where pixel sprites are placed on rendered and/or 3D backgrounds. Yeah, the Xenogears/Monolithsoft devs (Tetsuya Takahashi, Kunihiko Tanaka, and Yasuyuki Honne) pioneered the earlier versions of this - coincidentally, they also worked on Final Fantasy 6 and Chrono Trigger, which visually inspire the modern "HD2D" games.

I mean his quote is pretty self explanatory, they don't want to release to many HD-2D games in rapid succession to not make the players burned out of this style of games, simple as that.

DQ3 HD-2D is doing quite well and if we want more games like that we need to support them. This could lead to FF6 and maybe even Chrono Trigger HD-2D remake.

Silly square. Just release non-HD2D games (e.g. remastering/remaking Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria) in between HD2D games, problem solved.

One Hd-2D game a year is a good goal, as long as the games are varied. You avoid cannobilzing sales of other games and will keep a section of the base satiated.

Only 8.2% of your viewers are subscribed? How sad! You know what will surely NOT help you get more subs? BEGGING for it at the start of the video and shoehorning it AGAIN, just mere 3 minutes later. If I'm a new viewer, and I am, this is an immediate turnoff - first off, let me finish the goddamned video before I make up my mind. Then IF I liked it, I'll watch some more to see if you're even consistent with content or consistently funny/insightful/whatever. Most often, you earn a sub after someone's seen a couple of your videos, you know - you have to EARN it. It is rare for someone to sub immediately on the first video, you'd have to be like a Markiplier (funny) or someone of huge renown for that to happen consistently. Anyway, all that to say that I very much will not be subbing, thanks to your off-putting "begging" for a sub, and it's been so atrocious that it outweighed the quality of your content entirely. Hope you're happy. Then again, that's just one me and a single perspective, maybe others don't care about that at all, but it irked me immensely. You know who gets my sub? People who do their job - focus on the video - and don't expect nor mention subscribing. That's how it should be, imo, as it shows love and dedication.

I think HD-2D is getting old, and I do not want more games remade in that style. I would rather see devs try to push the style in different directions. I don't need FFVI but it looks like Octopath. I think the Star Ocean remake shows what could be done if devs are willing to step outside of the strict HD-2D Octopath style; it's still both retro and modern, but it is feels more fresh and unique.

My ranking would be: X, 1, 3, 2. I loved that X was a return to the more explicit sci-fi of Xenosaga, it had my favorite combat in the series, and while the story was minimal, what was there really intrigued me. I hate XC2 though. I hate how horny the game is, I hate how cheesy some of the characters are, I hate the gacha system for the blades, I hate the field skills. There is pretty much nothing about the game that I like.
@RhubarbRehabКүн бұрын
Modern gaming for these types of games doesn’t work like that. Any huge demand in something like this is likely to be filled by an indie developer.
@MrArthurT1100Күн бұрын
Input modifications would be cool. I would think for martial characters, it could be something where the input varies each time and shows up on screen to replicate the uniqueness of each physical situation, while magic could involve memorized combinations in a way that reflects magic and study. If combat were FF7R style, I'd love to see an expansion of the Vivi-Steiner combo. Maybe it still ends up pretty simple, but some more character combos where new abilities are unlocked by party comp. Amarant's and Freya's special abilities often involved different aspects of elemental damage, healing, or special effects, so maybe which ones they have available depends on other party members.

I hope so, I grew up with this style of graphics and I'm not saying every game has to be a masterpiece but it's almost 2025 why are games reverting back to old already done graphic style it seems like taking a step backwards to me.

Remakes are always a "Betting game" for these companies. Either win or lose. Rather make a new base world and dump as many nostalgia chars as possible. Thats will be a sure win. A new Final Fantasy open world rpg with Squall, Rinoa, Ultimecia, Edea, Laguna as Npcs. Or Squall or Rinoa can be a PC. That's very good idea.
