"The creepy take-up". Yes, that is nerve-wracking. I modified the striker block safety button by removing the spring that affects the "creepy take-up. You can access the safety block and spring by removing the Red Dot adaptor cover on the slide, then removing the oblong cover plate on the slide (one small hex socket screw holds it in.) The spring that is pushing the striker block can be removed (save the little spring) then reassemble without the spring. I do not know why S&W released such a creepy take up into the market. As soon as they, or performance group, or 3rd party trigger people, come up with a fix, I may reuse the spring, so save the little spring. WARNING! This DOES reduce one level of unintentional release of cocked striker safety system.

The worst break in period I had was with a R1 Remington 1911 style. I shot at east 500 jamming rounds, then they disappeared. Never had jams or feeding problems anymore. Clean em (all) good at first and be Patient. But on a 10mm , you may ? need to put a heavier guide spring with the heavy bear loads.

just bought the xten, i guess they hooked me up with an extra mag, because i got 3 of them. after taking it to the range i though to myself "now this is a gun" and made it my edc. I'll never start a fight, but i damn well will finish it.

Get rid of the FMJs for everyday carry. The best defensive .380 ammo is Underwood 90g Xtreme Penetrator. There’s no need for the +P version. Underwood 68g Xtreme Defender +P is good if you have a firearm that can shoot +P and has at least a 3.5 inch barrel. Otherwise, it’s not going to penetrate much more than a Hornady Critical Defense hollow point would, but the Defender will still be more reliable since it cannot fail at expanding. The Penetrator feeds better than the Defender in some older pistols due to being closer to FMJ shape. It shouldn’t be a problem in any modern pistols that are designed to shoot hollow points though.

The Ruger LCP Max, is a great pocket pistol; hard to beat, the Bodyguard is great too. It depends on you, maybe your hand size has something to do with it. I had the old LCP, very reliable, dependable, I didn’t like the trigger on the old one, but the new one is great. Ruger LCP Max is thinner and smaller than the S&W Bodyguard.

For the record, I have a Kimber Stainless II model and it's technically a series 80. However, it has a trigger break as crisp as any Springfield or Colt series 70 1911. Almost zero uptake and it breaks like glass every time. It also has a lightning-fast reset and fires very quickly. Apparently modern series 80 1911's have been improved upon.

Really sad so called experts, really hate safeties. They think they are smarter than the manufacturers and end up influencing others. A lot of so-called experts end up discharging weapons accidentally. Just look at the ceiling of any area in which an unchambered gun like at a jail or military guard posts. Lots of holes... So don't dismiss safeties, may save yourself, others or ceiling tiles one day. Lot of people feel they can lower a hammer on a full chamber as well. That's why de-cockers became a trend as well. Safeties are good while traveling through the bush. I would trust a cross bolt over a half cock any day.

Same for the ladies and my wife has small hands. If you can find them take the wife and there’s a good chance she’ll buy matching. Absolutely perfect pocket gun or realistically even a small Purse weapon . Do you know you’ve got something that you haven’t shot or perhaps never shot stashed away. I've had several Mavericks. Absolutely the best budget pump on the market. It will run absolutely any ammo. It only has a jam if it's the shooter's fault. There are parts and accessories for days and days because of it'll fit a 500 it'll fit a maverick. If you don't want a safety you can put a nice 590 trigger group in it. If you want a double safety you can fiddle a bit and put a maverick trigger group in a 500, not sure why you'd wanna do that but you can have a trigger and tang safety at the same time. Weird. The only problem I ever had out of the maverick or 500 was if I dropped them on their side. The shell elevator will pop out of place sometimes if dropped on its side. My fix for that was I drilled and tapped the hinge pins and put a small, smooth rounded bolt on both hinge pins. By doing that I can beat the living He'll out of it and it just simply won't screw up EVER! My favorite thing about this Mossberg line is I can unload without racking it, I can swap barrels in less than a minute, there's a little rubber piece to run shorty rounds in it for more capacity and if you load the last round as a normal round the rubber piece holds it between chambered and magazine with the action open so you can run max capacity with your first round at ready by only pressing the half readied shell into batter with a slight poke and racking the pump forward. ...Yes... I've spent too much time with my Maverick. 😂

Two things were born in 1911 - the incredible pistol featured here...and Ronald Reagan! 🤣😎👍 I agree that the 1911, if not THE best design of all time, is certainly up near the top. I've been running them for fifty years and will probably never switch. But it's a strange view that "high-end 1911s" are less reliable. Wilson Combat properly fits 1911s so they are supremely accurate AND 100% RELIABLE. In fact, as a former competitor, Bill Wilson ranks reliability as the NUMBER ONE requirement for his pistols. I compete in Defensive Pistol competitions with a Wilson and, after ten years and thousands upon thousands of rounds in matches and practice, it has never balked. Not once. Yes, one can fit a 1911 too tightly and affect reliability. But those pistols are not "high-end." They are hack-jobs done by someone unqualified to do the work. Ed brown is another master that makes true high-end 1911s that are accurate, reliable, durable, dependable and beautiful! My EDC is an Ed Brown Kobra Carry in .45ACP and it is equal to the Wilson in accuracy and reliability.

The XL Wilson grip on my std 365 made ALL the difference. It was nearly impossible to drop an expended mag with the original short grip - the mag would hit the meat of my larger hand and nor drop free. With the WC module, that problem is solved. AND it is so much more comfortable in my hand with the slightly more aggressive texture and the slightly more rounded shape. I like my std P365. I LOVE it with the WC grip module. Nice review.

@kbm-zw5jd

It can still be as stiff but they didn’t need to make it so flush. I have a bunch of the M&P pistols, all with safeties. The safeties in the subcompact, compact, and full size are obnoxiously big, way too easy to actuate, both because of the huge ledge on them and the relative ease of manipulating. Then the Shield and Bodyguard safeties are flush and heavier to move. There is certainly a middle ground there. Keep the stiffness but add a little ledge to the safety, like the one on the Ruger SR9 and LC9. Those are easy to Manipulate, have a hex positive click, and never accidentally came off. When I rack the slide in my full size with the safety on I frequently flick the safety off accidentally. But I don’t carry those guns so no big deal. For a 4 pound or less trigger on a striker fired gun, I insist on a safety. I easily swipe it off as I draw it, but I admit I have debated with holstering the gun in the kydex holster, flicking the safety off, and then putting the holster on. Never needed to do that with my LC9S.
