Good question! I don’t know too much about the visa lottery, but I know of it. Was it an outright refusal, or were you just not selected? If you were refused, I would absolutely declare it. If you’re not totally sure, contact your nearest US Embassy. Your current address shouldn’t be an issue. Most of my friends who travel to the US on ESTAs live in countries where they’re not a citizen and haven’t had issues.

It sounds like your tour operator may have on-the-ground insider knowledge and have had other travellers experience difficulties. It could be that at some land border crossings they’re not accepted, which is why they’ve mentioned this. I’ve personally not had trouble getting a Laos visa on arrival at a land border crossing, if that bit of info helps (this was a few years ago).

In the passenger details section? I’d use the country where you’re living as they also use this country for your contact details and won’t let you change it. For domestic services in Canada they’re not checking passports anyway.

You only need to submit what is requested on the application, and if you are contacted by immigration to provide additional information.

For some reason some nationalities (like the US) can do the tourist visa with iVisa, while others can’t (like Canada) and I’m unsure why. Have you been given a company reference number? Those are a requirement for the Ethiopia business visa.

The Home Office really push you to use the app, and suggest having someone else let you use their phone if you don’t want the app on yours, which is a bit ridiculous. There is a way to get around this on their website, but you have to click around quite a bit to find it and it has to be done in one sitting. But, if you absolutely do not want to use the app, you can use the alternative method I mention here (it’s pretty user-friendly): ivisatravel.com/united-kingdom/p/eta? It costs more, but it means not dealing with the app and can be done on a computer, and you can save your application and come back to it if you need to. Hope this helps!

For EU citizens it’s too early to apply. I’ve seen US citizens say they get theirs fairly quickly, so I imagine for Italians it’ll be a similar timeframe. The UK ETA is valid for two years, so for your trip in May you could (in theory) apply in March. As an EU citizen you can apply from 5 March onwards. The UK ETA is electronic, and linked to your passport (you’ll receive an email confirmation).
