I recently just finished a university course as a veterinary assistant, I did great during the classes but in the internships at a zoo the environment felt very toxic... in a few days I will receive my certificate and I am a little undecided about what I will do next because I feel It gives anxiety to experience the same bad time again in a veterinary clinic. I love animals unconditionally but some people complicate things.😓

I’m interested in becoming an assistant. I don’t plan on going to school to be a technician. Is a lifelong career as an assistant possible? Or do a lot of people move up from that position?

Our vet hospital never shut down during covid. Kept everything the same. Meanwhile every other local vet hospital had dangerous parking lot appointments and severely cut back hours.

Omg I love you 😘💕❤️ I have a interview tomorrow for vet assistant/ RVT and they liked me for my externship in a Animal ER I did the basic kennel assistant course and kennel help in my extern … I do know how to give vaccines and sometimes I would help in giving shots for spay and neuter so I did little things But they said let’s do a interview. And im just getting all the extra info im very determined now and im exited to succed

I paid almost 36,000 for my tuition but that’s also because I went to a vocational school so it would be more expensive than going to a community college or online college

I'm about to start working as a vet assistant, do you have any tips for first time working in a vet clinic? Is it difficult to learn how to use everything?

It took me about a month or two to start getting used to the equipment. Do not be afraid to ask questions!! For example, how to set up for certain procedures, or surgies. If you're not familiar with certain animal restraints, ask for demonstrations. I really hope that was helpful 😊 ....also watching these types of videos help a lot 👍

One thing I wished someone told me before starting my externship is to ask questions even if you think it’s a dumb question. It’s better to have a clear understanding of something than to be kinda iffy about it and also try to have them teach you hands on once you are comfortable, if you don’t ask to perform things you’ll never get the experience so dont be afraid to ask because the worst they can say is no which they should then teach you and then give you another opportunity on a different day. Every interview is different. With mine she asked about previous work experience and a lot of scenarios that I had to answer. To be honest most hospital are looking for someone who is wanting to learn and have a great work ethic. As long as you’re wanting to succeed they are willing to teach. You can teach someone how to do things but you cannot teach them how to have a good attitude and that’s what it’s really about. Sorry if this wasn’t much help, VA interviews are pretty easy so you’ll do great! Good luck ❤️

Honestly I’m not sure where to get certified as a vet assistant. I went to school and got an associates degree in Veterinary Technology so I can become a registered veterinary technician. I went to carrington college for my degree.. I want to say pen foster may offer vet assistant classes but I’m not 100% sure.
