In my newly planted aquarium (under 3 months), surface oil/film was being created. You could see the CO2 bubbles getting trapped, which provided a clear visual that you have a film which inhibits effective gas exchange. So, whilst the aquarium matures, I purchased a skimmer and went with the Oase. I bought the 350 model for my 250L aquarium and can say that it's fine. Usually, with filters, you try to go 'one up' to get a better flow rate to compensate between written specs and actual real-life performance. But the 350 was absolutely fine on a 250L aquarium. The skimmer cleared the surface in a surprisingly short space of time. Moreover, I instantly noticed that the CO2 could not maintain its equilibrium. This showed me that the gas exchange was improved by keeping the surface clean. In another observation, my pH would be at around 7.1 in the (very) early morning and was now at 7.5. So, it has an observable impact. I also decided to run a Dissolved Oxygen test (again in the early morning when oxygen is at its lowest), and DO moved from just over 6mg/l to 7.2mg/l at ~23C. The net effect is that it does have a positive impact. It does not resolve the source problem of biofilm, but it does address it until you become stable or fix. Consider that you will have to increase your CO2 as greater gas exchange will take place on an oil-free surface, making your CO2 slightly more costly. But, to me at least, this is worth the cost when considering the benefit of good gas exchange for both bacteria and fish health - and a gleaming surface in an open-top aquarium! 👍

It scares me buying an Oase aquarium because of the hole in the corner for the wires and it has too many ways of leaking

I got one but 2 days in and water not that clear

I have an Oase Filtral uvc 6000 filter pump in a small pond, been in 2 1/2 months. About every 2 weeks it seems to float up to the surface outlet end first. the first time it happened I was using it to pump water to a small waterfall, when I cam to the pond the outlet end of the pump was out of the water so no water was being pumped to the waterfall. The second time it happened I had diverted the flow from the waterfall to just the outlet on the pump to agitate the surface of the water when I went to see the pond the filter had floated up and was shooting water out of the pond hitting the wall of the pond and running back into the pond. I have just been out to see the pond and the pump has turned sideways and is shooting water just under the surface to the side of the pond. I tried to sink it but it just floats up again. What could the problem be and how can I stop this happening? when this happens I take the pump out and open it up, there does not seem to be that much muck in the filter pads.

Hello George, a good explanation about how this filters work, there's also something to do about improvements made on the Oase Biomasters canister filters .250,350,600 and 850, called biomaster 2. Can you tell us more about these improvements?

Looks good but your wrong in making a blanket statement saying hang on the back filters require priming. not all of them do require priming. Also, I dont think this is shrimp and fry safe so you will have to slap op and intake sponge or make some sort of plan there and it will ruin the look. I really like the outlet lip that pushes water out and not down, thats quite cool.

Is that carbon in the media in the middle of the cartridge? Planted tank people don’t want that, it sucks up all our fertilizer. I’m liking the high flow rate though. I would just replace that middle one that has carbon with filter floss or something personally

What I hate about AquaClear and such is the way it pushed the flow straight down and somewhat across the surface. I heard what you said, but to double down this one doesn’t force the water straight down correct?

It's a shame you guys dont sell a thermo version for Europe. It seems like an obvious easy win that would help you compete with the Seachem Tidal and Fluvals Aquaclear. Im assuming it's due to some kind of EU regs that only allows you to sell the thermo version in the States.

I know it’s definitely not a fern, none of the 'asparagus-' or ‘foxtail-ferns’ are, as they’re all clearly angiosperms (flowering plants). It’s in the genus _Asparagus_ after all. It’s just not agriculturally valuable or edible for humans. Though birds and other animals eat the ripened red berries, thus spreading it everywhere. Lol..that’s what has happened here in California and elsewhere!

Hi Oase, My pump started acting strange lately and when I disassembled the pump I saw a lot of limescale build up inside the housing and on the magnet of the impeller together with lots of water. Of course I cleaned it all but I still see water leaking into the housing, is this normal? Should there be water inside the motor?

how are everyones heaters? i just got the 150w for my 250 filter. i read mix reviews on the and so far the only thing i notice is the temperature is off (i know theres recalibration option, just havent gotten around to it.)
