I'm from Idaho, but moved to Colorado a few years ago. I didn''t realize this until i saw your video on why it felt off when i went to go in the mountains here in general. it feels like I can't go anywhere here in Colorado like when I grew up.

We in Idaho do not want or need a national park. The state is already overrun with tourists and others who want to turn Idaho into California. I live near Yellowstone and never go there because it's like Walmart on Saturday afternoon. We already have multiple large wilderness areas and the Craters of the Moon National monument. Want to ruin a beautiful place? Turn it into a National Park. Leave Idaho as it is!!!!

That's why Idaho is so underrated. There are very few tourists in Idaho comparing to other states, which makes Idaho a good place for introverts

Seems to be a marketing film by somebody who has National Park contracts. Idaho is so fortunate to not have the burden of National Parks. They have many beautiful places that residents can visit without all the restrictions of the parks. They also have the ability to manage the land effectively which no National Park does. National Parks are marked by massive fires, human erosion, and suppression of economic activity. In Utah, people suffer from loss of economic growth from agriculture and excessive property taxes because so much of the state is owned by the federal government. You also have management by people who do not understand the area. Example: This video completely overlooks the most beautiful parts of Idaho. My guess is because they are not familiar with them. Idaho, keep up the good work!

"Designating" land as a national park means nationalizing private property, and forcing the people living there out. Is this really the road you want to go down?

Unfortunately Obama had used so called national monuments as an excuse to kick ranchers off prime grazing land.

Tourism welcome, but coming here and buying multiple houses isn't welcome. A Californian bought three houses next to me in a city with almost ZERO amenities, WAY overpaid for those houses by double and expects a return on investment... It doesn't matter because he could have bought 10 houses for the same price as his one he sold in California... He will be dead before he sees a return on investment (people aren't paying California rent prices to commute 40 miles of icy roads to work), but the housing prices will remain high because of him... And I prefer home OWNER's living next to me rather than renters. If you're from California and you think you can just buy 3 houses in a rural town and have a better quality of life, you're wrong... people here won't pay 2k/month for nearly anything. Maybe in Boise someone will but not an hour out from Boise... Still there goes the problem, one Californian does it, then others see 5 houses sold in a city of 1500 people for $400,000 then the next guy buys 5 more houses, and the next and next... Then the whole city wonders why they can't afford to live somewhere there ARE NO JOBS.... Now why would anyone RENT here? Well the property owners seem to wonder about the SAME thing (or maybe they're too stupid)... Doesn't seem to affect the property value at all somehow. I don't plan on moving... my property could crash to 5% of what we paid and I would REJOICE, I'd laugh my ass off seeing those pricey properties unable to make a return on investment for 40 years... as is it'll be 20 years for sure. Play stupid games and win stupid prizes.

But we have National Forest. 20.4 million acres of Idaho is, approximately 40 percent of the state. National parks have rules that prohibit certain activities, such as hunting, while national forests usually allow hunting and other activities.

We dont want national parks in idaho because it blocks all recreational activities. Meaning all of the dirt roads, hiking trails, campsites get closed off. We fight tooth and nail to our public lands open. Also, the dams in hellscanyon actually give rafters and boaters a near year round run. They actually work with the tour companies to increase and decrease water flow daily to change the rapids and flow for ideal conditions. If the water flowed free, you would only be able to be on the water for a month or two in late fall. Awesome video!!

Im from Idaho falls, i visit craters several times a year. Although I have some reservations regarding increased tourism in the area if it were to be upgraded, I admit that Arco, the only town near craters, is in desperate need of new investment and fortune. The Nuclear history of the town (Being the first town ever lit my nuclear energy) and other aspects make it very interesting to me, however for decades Arco has been declining and degredating into a dilapidated state. I want to believe there is some hope for Arco, but I don't see anything saving that poor, charming, town without craters being upgraded to a national park.

People should look up Outdoor Idaho. It’s an Idaho Public Television program that’s run for about 30 years. They do extensive coverage of why there is no national park and why there is a huge swathe of protected land. Idaho is a weird state, but full of beauty. And about 85% is protected land. The other side of that coin is that unprotected areas are getting swarmed by white flighters, development is gruesome and housing is grossly overpriced. Anyhow, find Outdoor Idaho, you can stream shows free on the PTV site and see the vast beauty of the state.
