It is not known that the fuel tank was puntured by tree branches! Photos of the remains of the car indicate that the bent, crushed and broken chassis did the damage. They went off backwards and came to a very sudden stop a short distance down the cliff.

I grew up going to the races in the rally Catalunya-Costa Brava and saw the 037, the S4, Audi Quattro, the RS200, the MG Metro 6R4, etc...the Spanish newspapers were indeed talking about the Lancia S4 having close to 600hp...I can still remember the smell of the compressed gasses after the cars flew by...the noise, the speed, the smell....it would send chills through your body...awesome times!!!

The diagram at 3:45 is not accurate, but the commentary is. The by-pass at higher revs sends turbo air directly to the engine, else the Rootes supercharger would choke the air-flow.

Gasoline ignited. It was a steel and aluminum frame with Kevlar reinforced resin hull and body. The wheels and some drivetrain parts may have been mag, but thick chunks of it will not ignite unless exposed to very high temperatures, such as caused by burning fuel and composite resin.

Colin Chapman basically created the modern F1 car - with a special participation of Brabham (who put the engine in the rear). The three most successful Brazilian pilots owe their early successes to Lotus (Fittipaldi and Senna) and Brabham (Piquet). Jim Clark, however, is the greatest of all time (imho). Senna was great and many say he shares the top stop with Clark. I have a curiosity: what's non-Brazilians opinion about Rubens Barichello? Leave a line if you can. Thanks! Edit: oh ... Chapman also had the idea to paint the cars like cigarrette packs.
