I beat Isshin the SS on my very first attempt ever. It's my greatest accomplishment. The same can't be said about the Owl fights and the Demon of Hatred. They worked me over on my first run lol

I have a personal tie for my favorites in this game and they’re for completely different reasons! The Abyss Watchers are so cool they have a great introduction to the fight with you fighting just one guy and you’re like “this is manageable” and then you get smacked with the reality that they’re gonna start jumping you! Then a third one pulls up and completely changes everything about the flow of the fight AND it builds this sad ass atmosphere that you are putting a legendary force to rest for good. It makes me feel bad and I love when bosses do that! I got stuck on this boss for 6 months during my first run and when I beat them I screamed a genuine scrumpt I was so happy Darkeater Midir tho, here’s the thing (and this is just a me thing so I get it if you disagree) I don’t like fighting dragons. Most of the time they share the same few issues with the disorienting camera, moves ya can’t really see, massive hitboxeds on moves ya can’t see cause of the crap camera that deals 70% of your health and can stunlock you into another hit? Yeah, it sucks. Midir doesn’t really run into that problem for me. You mention that it’s kinda lame that the only way to beat him is to fight the way that was seemingly intended, and I can understand that! I kinda like that the only way to kill only remaining true dragon, is to be literally perfect (which is something I think Gael and the Nameless King benefit from too). Make no mistakes, analyze its attack patterns and persevere to slay a freaking capital “D”, Dragon. This fight makes me genuinely feel like that’s what I’m doing! Roleplaying as a dragon slayer and the dragon fights back for real he doesn’t just stomp on the ground or rely on fire breath. He slams his full weight down, he claws at you, he fires a LAZER at you and at the end of it…you did it! It’s everything I love about these games shoved into one fight and I can’t tell which one I like better

I quit the game because of the Shinobi Hunter of Misen....twice. Thank god a friend harassed me for like two years until I picked it up again. As a total beginner, this Boss was so unbelievably frustrating. Didn't help that I did Hirata before Gyobu, so I didn't have a lot of practice even with the basic combat system. I still find his thrust attacks to be very difficult to Mikiri for some reason. And man, the gank is just so unnecessary.

I think the vanilla version though clanky, really isn't that terrible. I don't like how slow everything is, or that you can't cancel out of an attack animation. But, I've just gotten passed lost sinner, before having to move. It definitely is no ds1, or ds3, but it's not an entirely awful game. However I do plan to go to scholar next, so that I can experience the whole experience for myself. Also Pursuer is in the forest on both versions.

I don't know if it was mentioned elsewhere, but the Leonine Misbegotten shares similarities to Margit because they share a common heritage. The misbegotten are remnants of the Primordial Crucible, as is the Omen curse Margit has.

One of my favorite things about Isshin and Sekiro’s relationship is how much trust is inherently in it. They both seem to jive with each other incredibly fast and well. Which helps a lot in the pain of the Shura ending, but for the main games ending, it has less of a sad with more bitter, sweet feel. One of my favorite things about when you get the final slash on Isshin is that slices through his stomach kind of like how it is done in Seppuku and unlike the shura where are we just slices got up and then leave him to die (which is also great for showing how dishonorable we are for going with the Shura ending). We act almost like a second in the true final fight, cutting his head off. Which the second in Seppuku is inherently very trusted person for the one being killed. What are your thoughts on what I’ve said?
@TheAkasharose7 күн бұрын
I completely agree! There's an incredible sense of respect in the Sword Saint duel, on both sides that not only makes the boss memorable, but almost empowers and pushes the player forward. Isshin fights you, but I've always felt he still expected to lose - and when he stays down at the end of that healthbar, it seems like Isshin accepting a reality he expected from the beginning. And the Shura ending really sits on death in general - the blood slowing down as Sekiro stares her down and drops her body, Isshin has always felt like he's trying not to collapse before he does, and even Owl, at the end of the cutscene, is crawling towards Sekiro. Death happens in both, but there's a poetic finality in the Sword Saint endings that the Shura ending so intentionally reverses - where it doesn't feel like an ending, because you know that the violence has only just begun.

I never understood why people hate the bull so much. I think he's easy to fight but you need to approach it differently from a regular boss. Don't try keep pressure on chasing it, bait him and fight him like you'd fight a bull. Stepping aside and getting a thrust in.

Loved the video, coincidently released only a couple of weeks after my first (and immediate second umbrella) playthru. First and foremost, I can't believe i completed 2 playthrus of the game and didn't realize the Grey Crow doesn't have a post fight funeral scene!? It's such a well made deliberate choice on the devs's part. Second, I sooo agree Betty is a low point in the game. To follow up the Urn Witch and the Frog King, who have amazing fights and are both compelling and original characters as well, with "Hey, remember the Titan Souls Yetti?" Is such a let down, specially after the climatic moment at the Crows' Camp. We do diverge in a few points tho. That being the Lord of Doors's and The Gravedigger's fights. The first phase of the Lord of Doors is a very welcomed obstacle sequence that traverses the whole game. (Tho I understand they were going for a more frenectic experience, and the hookshot get's the job done the best, I still find the lack of engagement with the other tools to be a missed opportunity.) The later half of the fight didn't impress much tho. Imo it overrelies on previous bosses' moveset to the point it feels like it was rushed. Rub salt in the wound, the fights it takes the most from are Betty (it even got the bitch side swipe) and Door Guarding. Which makes sense given both are very generic mechanically, and thus, are well suited for recycling. Where as the remaining bosses' movesets are very particular to their fight and character. (I mean, imagine recycling any of the Grey Crow's moves, it would be criminal!) The other point of divergence is the post game epilogue. It's commonly held by the players as a dull collectathon, which i think is underselling quite a bit. Making it nighttime for the first time and seeing the NPC'S nighttime activities and the Lost Cemetery completely quiet and disbanded made for such a strong impression on me. And some of the puzzles in it really felt like a culmination of DD's ingenious puzzle philosophy. (The whole thing reminded alot of Tunic, a good contender for a boss analysis video, adding in a bit a comparing its boss design to DD's would be really interesting). And it leads to my favorite fight in the game... I adore the Gravedigger fight! I found it to be a very hard hitting climax and a satisfying secret final boss fight. I got really emotionally involved with the character thru out the game, much more than with the Grey Crow, and i view their send off as very necessary and well built into the narrative. And regarding the gameplay, I find it the best skill test fight in the whole game, the moveset is simple but original, it's challenging but not annoying or unfair... And, yes, all bosses dance to banger music, but wow, the music on this one goes haaard... It checks my every mark for secret final boss fight. I like the fight so much that the thought of not doing it in my umbrella playthru felt wrong, so I did it and it was amazing. And best all, that's where the game ends! Put Gravedigger's gravedigging days to the grave and move on! Nothing to see past this point. There is absolutely no stupid Titan Souls tie in letdown of an ending after this 😔. Well, those are my thoughts overall. I do have a question tho, why did you ignore my boys/girlies/nb palls the spell upgrade guardians? I really appreciate them as skill check fights. I understand they are optional non-story related fights, but they definately warrant one dedicaded segment imo.
@TheAkasharose12 күн бұрын
Yeah - Betty was insanely underwhelming. I'm even a huge Titan Souls fan, but and one or two references can feel earned, but Betty just feels out of place as a result. Though the Lord of Doors does steal a lot from Betty, the change in frame data makes them a lot more satisfying to fight. It's the same moves, but the Lord of Doors fits the pace of the game well enough that I get lost in that second phase. And I do love some of the nighttime puzzles - finding relics was the only point where it started to drag for me. And it's really nice to hear someone who loved the Gravedigger! Having her be a secret boss definitely feels fitting, but especially compared to the scale of the fights that proceed, it feels too simple. I don't necessarily wish she was at the same level of scale, only that there was a bit more than the screen becoming discolored to build towards the fight as an emotional finale. The introduction and exit of the fight, though, are picturesque. I'm a sucker for tears physically becoming a part of design, and the Gravedigger hits that well. I think the Crow still boasts my favorite track - there's an incredible sense of momentum in that song. And I had debated discussing the Avarice gauntlets and upgrade bosses - but they've always felt more like elite mobs to me. I have a couple replies in the comment about how much I like the specific designs and adjustments on each, I definitely enjoy them! (Also, I've had Tunic on my wishlist for a while - good to know it does capture a piece of that same puzzle/exploration vibe that I loved here!) Thanks for sharing all the thoughts - always cool to read!

Great vid, I love seeing a lot of smaller bosses getting proper analysis. Also it's interesting how you speculate on the weeping peninsula's purpose as a training zone. As that is exactly my assumption and how my first playthrough went. I felt underpowered in Limgrave, but in the weeping peninsula it felt correct and I was learning and discovering slowly. Along with the fact that the area is the only thing south so it feels like you're suppose to go explore down there as a little startup. Also Smurag being avoidable is almost 100% intentional and so fucking welcome on repeats, because yeah dragons in Elden Ring get really fucking old before you hit Altus.

The problems with Malenia are so depressing because Waterfowl single handedly ruins that fight so badly for me. Malenia takes a lot of her move set ideology from a mix of Beast Clergyman and Margit, with how almost all of her moves can chain into each other in a wildly different number of potential combos. Waterfowl is the only move in her move set that she will continuously respond as her get off me move. This move however, is most optimally dodged at mid to long range so why is this her response for get off? It's downright insulting, they could have avoided this whole scenario if they just gave her hyper armor and a different super move. I often get reminded of Rellana, arguably Fromsofts best badass female boss, she has hyper armor in a sense that she just isn't interrupted by standard attacks and is much more interesting to fight, especially with how many ways there are to create openings. For example, on her long double swings (diagonal) they are able to be avoided by starfirst heavy attacks. It's actually so interesting that her hitboxes are this polished, but more importantly that she has this type of variation. Malenia has this too with many jumping and strafing openings, the problem is no one actually wants to test that because you would have to deal with Waterfowl, I don't have the patience to learn the up-close dodge so I have to proc waterfowl like it's a status effect than go back to having fun. On another note, if Rellana had half the buildup of Malenia with a amazing cutscene to boot she would be legit by my favorite fromsoft boss she is that fun. Even though you have been talked to death about it, Maliketh is definitely one of their best bosses ever, but mainly due to how fucking awesome beast clergyman is. Nearly everything is jumpable / jump ashes openings. Just try Beast Clergy man with Wing stance, I legit could use the heavy as a punish for half his move set. By comparison Maliketh's role is that of the ultimate positioning boss, almost half of his follow ups will miss if you try to close the gap on him. A lot of his moves are jumpable, but not for a punish, more so for just another way to dodge. I know everyone has a boss that they just don't understand why everyone likes them (Mine is Orphan) so I get that, but I implore you to try again to see if the boss is possible to be fun in another way. Lastly, I wanted to touch on the idea that the side bosses can be mediocre, but I would argue that they are more often than not extremely fun in their own right. Take Leonine arguably the best side boss besides the crucible knights, he is always given a twist or something different from the original fight. The one in calid is about the speed you can burst a Leonine down before taking on a crucible knight, testing the DPS of your build. The one in consecrated snow field is given a legendary weapon and some moves that go along with the theme of the golden order. The last one of note in Altus is about avoiding or killing an amped up Leonine while Tricia is there to buff him (We don't talk about Miranda encounter). The Crucible knights are a bit harder to defend, but the boss variants are all really well done, like they all work in favor of jumping openings. The double spin can be out spaced the first one and jump heavied the second, and the wings can be jumped, or you can run away and roll to him to get a punish. Crucible knights offer a lot of combat expression so the uniqueness of the encounter can depend on how you change your style each time. Duelists are just really unique and fun enemies that you can play around with a lot like crucible knights, and overall are some of their best side bosses (up there with the death knights in the DLC). Cemetary shades are extremely vulnerable to holy and are testing your ability to link that together and punish. Unironically love Ulcerated tree spirits, I think their move sets being mainly position based so you can just avoid an entire attack by running to the position to get a massive punish is awesome. Don't really like the cats but don't hate them. Ancient heroes are fun and have a great variety of attacks but are definitely designed to be blitzed to death before they reach phase 2, even though it's a really cool phase. Late game or elite enemies are really good as side bosses and feel like a sneak peak of what the future can hold. TLDR: Most bosses in ER have a purpose and can often be really interesting when viewed from that angle.

This isn’t me defending waterfowl dance, just giving some types that could help you enjoy her, you can avoid waterfowl dance at point blank by sprinting away and jumping at the right time just as she is about to touch you. The forward momentum of the jump will help you avoid the first flurry. You might take small bits of damage if you mistime it, but you don’t have to do anything fancy and it can sometimes work even in the recovery animation of attacks.
@thecenturion163422 күн бұрын
@@epsilon1372 no I understand that way to avoid it, but I'm talking from a perspective of like the fact that she just defaults to using it as a way to break tempo, it's frustrating.
