I have to paint outside. It’s late in the year to be doing copper coat Im aware but ill health has prevented me from getting t finished. It’s all prepared back to gel coat and ready to go. Question: will it be ok if rain water gets on the coppercoat after the first 24 hours? (Im battening with UK temperatures and weather to try and complete this in the next few weeks)

Do you have a part number for the Hamilton prestige rollers you used? Looks a great finish and great video. We are in the process of applying copper coat to your Marlow Hunter 31

That Blake grease looks like synthetic marine wheel bearing grease. Not that I would take the risk of a substitute but still curious if they are similar. On another note: A short sea valve story, I did some equipment replacement on a U. S. Submarine back in the 90's. The sub did an Arctic mission then went to the academy to be used as a trainer. About a year and a half later I learned that they needed to replace a sea valve. They had called in a diver to weld a plate over the through-hull. Then proceeded to remove the the valve. To their suprise, they learned that the diver had welded the plate over the wrong through-hull. The sub sank at the dock. That was the USSN Sandlance, a Sturgeon Class nuclear powered attack sub. The sub was raised and continued to be used as a trainer for the submariner's academy in New London, CT. I enjoy your videos and applaud your dedication.

Almost certainly the same grease but most folk use so little a tub will last 20 years so not really worth saving a few £’s just for that. A rather unfortunate sub story but I’m sure an easy mistake - oops!

Lovely video George =) Question. Wondering why not drill oversized holes and fill them with epoxy and then drill again to avoid damaging the wooden backing for the winches with water Ingres? =)

That certainly an option but I’m much more confident in modern sealant than the stuff that was used when the boat was built. If the deck was cored that would certainly be necessary. TBH it’s a bit overkill for this situation - remembering that I am working on a clock and paid by the hour so if I double the length of the job then the client pics up double the bill. So I would do it where I felt it necessary but in this situation it really isn’t imo.

I don't listen to the Audio, so no comments on the music....loiving every minute of the rebuild.. and yes, sanding does get boring... but it also shows JUST HOW MUCH WORK and hours go into a major rebuild like this... love the boat...beautiful lines..... what is the total number of hours and doallar for this rebuild?
@RefitandSail
@RefitandSail Күн бұрын
Yep, it’s not a quick process to do a refit like this. I do have timesheets for the whole project but have not added up the total. Likewise I would rather not give the total cost for the refit for the benefit of the owner who may wish to keep this confidential .

Could you please just give us a general idea of the cost of a full restoration like this one?
@RefitandSail
@RefitandSail Күн бұрын
I would not want to give a figure as all refits would be different and different clients have different priorities, this one (for example) has a new mast and sails but retains the good engine that was in it. I’d rather not give a figure but a refit could cost anywhere from 50k to 150k (or more) depending on how far you go.

Great video as always.. call me pedantic but just a little observation on the bit where you 'brushed' away the chips and dust from drilling through the cockpit onto what seems to be sand below, very close to shore. I would probably use a vac or collect these otherwise and dispose of them properly; would hate to see these little bits of plastic floating around. I know it's a drop in the ocean, but they do tend to accumulate and last forever unfortunately..
@RefitandSail

That’s a very fair comment and I am 100% in agreement with you about not dropping plastic waste on the ground or into the water (although sometimes it’s unavoidable when working in a windy boatyard. The chips and dust were brushed off onto the side deck and then hoovered up off camera as I have to edit these videos down to sensible size. On the Timelapse you may (from memory) see me vacuuming up the drillings when doing the spinnaker winches. Thanks for pointing this out and happy you say I agree with you and do try to capture waste so it does not pollute the environment we all share. All the best! G

Owner must be sitting in cash, 6 winches is exaggerated, never handle the spinnaker sheet from the cockpit could use the windward halyard instead while trimming the kite!
@RefitandSail
@RefitandSail 5 күн бұрын
Indeed you can do that and many boats do but this is a one-design class of racing boat so the specification of having dedicated kite winches has to be followed to stay in class rules. This is the standard arrangement for co32.

Hi, yes I installed all the electrical and electronics on the boat, didn’t do a video on that (sometimes I just have to crack on with work without the faff of videoing as it eats into my work time) but I do have to do another electronics install soon (it’s a fairly common job) so may record for a future episode.

Brilliant job and gorgeous results… Here in California there are incredibly strict anti fouling controls that aim at reducing the amount of copper released into marinas and estuaries and thus organisms that filter feed. That is one fantastic looking bottom job though 👍⛵️

Nice work! Another top tip; after applying masking tape, take a sanding paper and just sand the edge a bit, this will have two advantages. You apply pressure on the tape so it sticks better and you rough up the edge a little and get a more beautiful finish!

Maybe it’s because I’ve watched 30 of your wonderful addictive vids in a row , but the repetitive noise allegedly considered music that you play in between talking reminds me of trying to sleep in a steel boat and the ting ting ting ting of the electrical wire running up to mast head light resonates thru the whole boat or when a broken jetty pylon goes, “ eek…eek…eek…eek…. “ non stop as soon as a mild evening breeze brings the tiniest of wavelets from the south; If by the time I get to your current video and I haven’t committed hara kiri forget buy me a beer I’ll buy you a pub if you get rid of that junk repetitive music.
