I am an Electrical Engineer. I also hold a Mechanical Engineering Degree, and today, I am an INCOSE ESEP. Let me tell you something about the electricity at the average outlet in the USA. How many compressors are in your home? I have four: one in my heat pump, one in my freezer, one in my main fridge, and one for my beer fridge. Without getting too technical, think of it this way: that electricity is dirty. Think about that 13.8 KV line coming into your home! How many electrical motors are starting and stopping that are also on that line? I DO NOT recommend using anything but a properly sized UPS when it comes to computer equipment. Right now I am using 5G home internet. I also use a 2-monitor system. This along with both of my printers are behind my UPS. One last point. ALL conductors move when an electrical current passes through them. In most cases, it may take a powerful microscope to see it. Today modern PC power supplies are much better than they used to be, still, a UPS filters all that dirty electricity and this will make your PC last years longer! I also want to add a bit to the last part of the video. Another reason I highly recommend using a UPS is for those times when Windows users are doing updates and especially when AMD MB users are updating the BIOS so the AMD AGESA can get updated. Simply put if you have even for a brief moment a loss of power while doing a BIOS update you might find you have bricked the PC. Several years ago I read a story about a man who was in the middle of updating his BIOS when a car hit a power pole near his house. In that one moment, he lost his PC.

Richest country in the world & it has a crappy, unreliable, electricity grid because power companies are more interested in making profit rather than serving their customers. Add to that most household electrics are not fit for purpose in the 21st century.

Laser printers need to be plugged into the surge outlets, not the battery backup outlets because they draw too much current. I plug my PC, monitor(s), speaker system, router, switch, and modem into the battery backup outlets and everything else into the surge outlets. Also, I would set the UPS to stay off until I turn it back on. If the power goes off due to a fire, you don’t want your equipment to suck in the soot.

Keep in mind that the battery in the UPS will lose charge over time. I ran into this problem recently when the power went out and the battery failed to keep power to the PC long enough to shut down the computer. Replacing the battery with a new battery was necessary (~$ 45). In some cases, it may be cheaper to just buy a new UPS.

Well, technically nothing will give you 100% protection from power surges and lightning strikes. That's why I still do what I parents did back when I was a kid. My dad said _"No matter what it is, if it is electric and you want to keep it, unplug it during electrical storms."_

Good thing surge protectors are built into the power cables of laptops nowadays, among other things. Surge protection is a gimmick in modern homes.

Could you elaborate on how the difference of 50 Hz vs 60 Hz and 220V vs 110V would reduce the value of using a surge protector or a UPS?

Why are you trying confuse people by referring to a power source as a signal, when clearly that is misleading and wrong.
@KMcCabe
@KMcCabe 7 сағат бұрын
Actually it's not strictly wrong, assuming you're referring to an AC outlet. An AC outlet will provide (depending on your country) a sine wave with a frequency of either 50 or 60 Hertz and a RMS magnitude of roughly either 110-120 Volts or 220-240 Volts. It responds to complex impedances and can propagate through the air. While most people don't generally refer to it as a signal (reserving the word signal for the transmission of information as opposed to the transmission of power), those characteristics could classify it as a signal.
@rmora1
@rmora1 7 сағат бұрын
@@KMcCabe You are trying too hard to justify something that is clearly inaccurate, while an AC outlet can carry a signal, it is not correct to refer to to it as a signal since the purpose is to deliver power. the method of transmission is not the thing itself. Transmission of data over communication lines is not referred to as electricity, because the purpose is to transmit information the fact that it is done with electricity is irrelevant.

Good advice on the UPS. Have you looked into Whole Home Surge Protectors?
@davinp

As you shown, a power strip and surge protector look alike which is why people make mistake them. You can look on the box of a surge protector to see what it is good for. Also, you should neer plug a space heater into one as it could get too hot and start a fire

I had a surge protector installed into my main breaker panel for this very purpose. We don't have a lot of lightning, but we do get strong winds that cause tree limbs to fall on power lines. So, lots of power outages throughout the year. No problem so far!😎

Thanks for this video. Very informative. I know this is an old video, but I wanted to add that there are other ways to boot from a USB rather than the traditional ways of using the bios change. I got dinged by KZbin for putting a link in the comments once, so I can't do that. But just look up "4 different ways to boot from a USB". It shows you how to do it from the Windows command (CMD), through settings, by hitting restart, choosing repair my computer, selecting the USB you want to boot from, and a couple other ways. Good luck. Rob

There is Basic Office 365 that gives 100GB on storage in One Drive plus access to ad free Outlook plus online Office apps. Malwarebytes Pro no longer plays nice with of AV's with real time protection as it used to do. I would suggest Tera Copy is better than Super Copier. You can pause copies, moves files from one drive to another & it will verify transfers! If you are copying 10's or 100GB of files it won’t crash like Windows Explorer. It is free or you can donate.

Absolutely! As long as they aren't important files, which is almost never. If it's something you recognize, I'd try other methods to clean the file. If you don't recognize, delete away...but it's permanent 👍

I'm liking your channel, you have some very useful videos but sometimes what might be a minor statement that's misconstrued. Command Prompt is not MS DOS, it's exactly what the name suggests a Shell or interface to pass latent commands to the system. As you suggest for anyone reading between the lines they were originally completely separate and since MS DOS hasn't existed for almost a quarter of a century but CMD is still available in Windows. Perhaps you're just confusing people by calling CMD DOS as it's not the Disk Operating System...
