@@Reksimy Peter the Cruel went to war against Peter IV of Aragon in 1356 (for this reason called The War of the Two Peters) but with very limited successes. In May 1361 Peter the Cruel heard that the emir of Granada Muhammad VI wanted an alliance with Aragon and that a large army of free companies was also coming to Spain so he signed a peace with Aragon. After he restored his old ally, Muhammad V, to the throne of Granada he restarted the war with Aragon in June 1362. In 1365 France decided that a good way to kick out the companies would be to send them to Spain to fight for Henry of Trastámara, brother of Peter the Cruel and pretender to the Castilian throne. Henry successfully took control of Castile in 1366, but Peter was able to get help from the Black Prince who raised an army of routiers of his own and restored Peter on the throne in 1367. Peter had promised large sums of money and some territorial concessions, but he never repaid the Black Prince, who therefore left him to his fate. Just as the English army was leaving Spain, Henry entered Castile once again and many cities sided with him. The war ended in 1369, so in the next video.

@@CrusaderMapper Thank you for having the patience to explain me, I suscribed, but why did France want to get rid of the companies? Werent they helping against the English?
@CrusaderMapper27 күн бұрын
@@Reksimy The free companies were groups of mercenaries, brigands and just generally professional soldiers out of a job. They usually claimed to be fighting for the King of England or for the King of Navarre, but the degree of control they had over them was limited and in fact they were fighting for themselves. They came from several regions like Gascony, Brittany, England, Germany, Hainaut and Brabant and they devastated most regions of France.

What is Gibelet? I originally thought it to be the Assafs, but that dynasty rose after the Kiserwan campaigns.
@CrusaderMapper2 ай бұрын
@@christophernakhoul3998 It’s the Lordship of Gibelet, originally part of the County of Tripoli, and when Tripoli fell to the Mamluks they allowed him to maintain his lordship, provided he pay tribute to them. In around 1300 though the Mamluks decided to annex it.

@WordsFromPeter3 ай бұрын
@CrusaderMapper would be great to show both at the same time in another video 🙂 they're all in the Eastern Mediterranean, after all, and the Levant is in the immediate sphere of influence of Constantinople. It's super rare to find maps which show both at the same time, and that would bring a lot of added value to your video.
