Nice..From my 32 years of hunting out of box stands in the open. I’ve learned that big bucks and does don’t care about the location of the stand if the wind is right. They still come out and walk to the feeder lol. I even drive my pickup truck to the edge of fields sometimes and hunt right from the driver seat and just shoot out the window. All while leaving my truck running for the heat.

No, the plot was so thick it wasnt necessary & proably wouldnt had grown much. It fed deer through to the end of our seasons.

When do you start walking the property. Do you still stay out of the bedroom till spring or do you walk everything after season is done?

I start by early to mid December depending on season closure date, i like to see every bedding area if and when possible once season is over.

It looks like the chicory overtook the clovers, except where you overseeded the clovers later. Do you think the 60/40 are good percentages or do you think it could use more clovers?
@habitatsolutions360llc3
@habitatsolutions360llc3 2 ай бұрын
I personaly really like the high percentage chicory, the areas I over seeded with straight clovers are areas I missed when I first planted the plot.
@ray330
@ray330 2 ай бұрын
@habitatsolutions360llc3 I would think the clovers would help provide N to the chicory...but the chicory looks healthy as if it has what it needs.

Jake I had the same issues and after 3 yrs. of fighting it I sold my Tar River this spring and went back to tilling the soil. I got discussed using a pice of equipment that 75-80% effective. If I had known what you were working on I would have kept it and purchased a closing unit from you. Bob

I bought this exact same drill two years ago and was sorry I did because of the same problems you identified. This retrofit is absolutely amazing and exactly what I needed. I can't wait for you to offer this modification. Other problems you will find is that the bolts come loose. The first day I used it I found a mechanical nut in the field I just drilled. However, as per the FB support group, use a little Locktite and this should limit the problem.

very innovative, jake! Other than the closing issue, any other issues with the drill? I've heard clients of mine who have tar river drills say theyve had to go through and tighten all the nuts and bolts back down after a day's use. Have you had that issue?
@habitatsolutions360llc3
@habitatsolutions360llc3 2 ай бұрын
Being a low entry price-point anyone that buys this drill should expect to do a once over on all bolts, screws, chains, sprokets you name it. Luckely for me I found the Facebook tar river community page and did a 100% once over & lubed the chaines and sprockets before I used it These issues may originate from the implement dealers depending how thorough they are going over their checklist and what experiance level employees they hire.

Is there an advantage to spraying plus crimping vs just crimping? I’m interested in this method as I’ve got heavy clay soil as well with limited access with heavy machinery other than some homemade atv implements. Great info!
@habitatsolutions360llc3
@habitatsolutions360llc3 3 ай бұрын
As they say one man's advantage is anothers disadvantage, Im not sure there is crimping it green preserves more soil moistre and in the rye stems, but I did have a better soybean crop in the sprayed to terminate & then crimped 10-days/2weeks later.

Another great video Jake! I love those runways behind your wall of cover along the food. If I'm able, I use that same set-up and you're right, those travel-ways can be awfully fun during the rut. Please keep sharing your knowledge with the next generation of deer habitat managers!

That matted section of SG🌾, would that self choke out if not burned and managed ? I am finding that in my stand since I can not burn🔥 in my area . Think mowing and chopping that Thatch up in spring would help prevent that in my situation ?

I basically did the same except I put HD screen along the shady side of my switch. Both turned out better than expected except the farmer nuked 200' of my switchgrass. That was 2 years ago. He stayed way off my edge this year so far. Got some RC Bigrock to fill in my original Cave and Rock. Also sprayed quinclorac the first weekend in June to get rid of some foxtail grass. Hope it does the trick for me. Anyway, nice video sir.
