I am having a problem with this, I am no gunsmith and it is my first time working in a 1911 platform, for a Springfield Prodigy 5” comp got few upgrades, EGW mostly, got an Atlas trigger and bow and Atlas plunger, sear, hammer, hammer strut, grip safety, main spring housing all EGW, as well as the ambi safety which I struggle some time but it needs to be fitted and I have still no idea where exactly to file; I tried comparing it to the stock trigger and they are different; the stock works great, but the EGW does not and the right side falls off, very frustrated it is not drop in and I am afraid to destroy a part that is $149, starting to regret not getting the Atlas, tomorrow I will call EGW and ask them how in the hell their parts works fine with stock Prodigy safety but not with their own!!

Got a prodigy last week and when loading the 20 round mag there is lot of rattling like rounds loose inside, open it up and everything looks normal, I got 18% spring and +1 Follower kit from Atlas and thinking maybe replacing the base plates with tool less Dawson precision plates but since I got total of 7 magazines this upgrades are annoyingly expensive; expended close to $200 for the extra mags, then another $178 on the spring kits and then it would be another $235 for the base plates, meanwhile I am wondering if it is all needed at all r if it would even work or make a difference; granted, I can return the plates and baseplates and recover $400 if it does not work or I do not need it. I am trying to find info but everywhere says about the prodigy magazines feed issues and nowhere about the upgrades of magazines in particular other than buying full Atlas or Staccato mags which is even more expensive. I bought the prodigy to thinker with it and see how far it will take money wise to make it "slick" I never intended to keep it stock as it will be a range toy but so far gun and in parts, without even shooting it, I am well passed the $2500 that an Staccato would cost and I have real doubts it would be better than Staccato, ever. All this is not including the SRO and plate I got exclusively for it! I hope I am not just making a very expensive mistake, a friend recommended to shoot it stock and then if I like it and wont run into problems , return all the upgrades but it is well known that being an entry level 2011 the prodigy is not really meant to keep stock unless one would not shoot it more than once or twice a year.
@americantrucker981323 күн бұрын
I have 16 prodigy mags and they have all worked perfectly well without doing anything to them. With the exception of tuning the feed lips if and when they get knocked out of tune. (which will happen from dropping the mags during a slide lock reload) if you can get your money back then you should. The new staccato HD takes Glock mags. They decided to copy stealth arms. But the prodigy does require maintenance and tuning. If you are to get the best reliability. I have a bunch of videos on my channel and so does Atlas gun Works and Wilson combat so that you can find anything you’d need to know.
@americantrucker981323 күн бұрын
And most staccatos with the exception of the new HD are exactly the same as the prodigy the guns use the same material steel slide, and frame, stainles steel Bull barrel, polymer grips, there are some cosmetic differences that don’t make any difference and then the one actual difference is the location of the extractor. The external extractor requires less maintenance and is supposedly more reliable though I’m not so sure. I believe that considering I have guns with external extractors that don’t run very reliably while my prodigies have run thousands upon thousands of rounds without fail.

@@fireyourrocketts I always say to each his own, so the upgrades have to be something you want to do. I enjoy upgrading my guns. I know other people that do, but I’m sure some don’t. So it just depends what you want to do, my friend. I definitely don’t think you should be wasting so much money trying to upgrade magazines because somebody said they are junk. A lot of people say a lot of stuff myself included that doesn’t make everything true. As for the loaded magazines rattling that is normal with 2011 magazines. Mine do that and it doesn’t cause any issues.
@fireyourrocketts23 күн бұрын
@ Thanks for clarifying it, previous to this platform I have a 1911 single stack Kimber and magazines never rattled at all; most of my spares are Wilson Combat, I am new to 2011 as you can see, so I guess will have to make some mistakes before learning it which is why I value the advise; most likely will return the spring kit and the base plates; the factory mags come apart easy enough so this upgrade seems a waste of money as you pointed.

@americantrucker9813Ай бұрын
@@blaynebradley9209 that is a bit of a loaded question my friend. And my honest opinion is that is hard to answer without talking about the price. I love my Atlas NYX V2 it is the top of the line no doubt. I would have gotten the atlas Hyperion if they had offered it Optics ready, but you have to special order to get it that way. The Hyperion is a 4.6 inch. Which I think fits nicely in the duty size. I have not actually shot or held the new Kimber 2K11 but my honest opinion it is the best buy on the market today! It is top-tier and the most bang for your buck. For example, staccato doesn’t offer a single model with an aluminum grip module. And that also includes their almost $5000 top model. All atlas guns come with an aluminum grip with a price tag of $5700 retail. (modern Warriors has a beautiful collection of Atlas and other 2011’s in stock. That is where I bought my Atlass and there is no sales tax) Kimber 2K11 comes pretty much identical to the Atlas for half the price. So my honest opinion is by the Kimber 2K11 and tune it yourself if required. I will be picking one up as soon as possible. If you wanted to buy a prodigy and turn it into an atlas or 2K 11. That can be done but not as cheap as you can buy the 2K 11 from Kimber.

I’ll swap to the EGW forged hammer/sear/disco and goto a 19# mainspring (maybe eventually a tool-less guide rod), but I don’t feel those are ‘musts’, but instead just added peace of mind on those impact parts.
@americantrucker9813Ай бұрын
@@msh441 use what you got my friend! I would recommend a 17 pound main spring or lighter. There’s really no need for a 19lbs mainspring for a 9mm. 19lbs is standard for 45acp. The tooless guide rod isn’t a big deal I ran the original in my 4.25 inch but I did put a atlas tooless guide rod in my 5inch and it’s nice for looks and tearing it down without tools. It makes it easy to swap recoil springs. I run all EGW internals and a 8lbs Wolf recoil spring if I’m not mistaken. I definitely highly recommend the atlas IDPA Ambi safety’s. Or the wider Standard Ambi safety’s. They add an incredible amount of stability when shooting.

I think you might be confusing the mainspring, and the recoil spring, @ . 17# is stock for the 4.25 9mm, and a 12-13# recoil spring (10-11# on the 5”). The Springfield prodigy comes with a 19lbs mainspring & some say it’s actually 23lbs but at min 19lbs and a 12lbs recoil spring for 4.25 inch and a 10lbs for 5inch . The mainspring is the spring in the mainspring housing which engages the hammer strut. I run a 13lbs mainspring. I’m not at all confused. My 13 lbs mainspring has no issue with light primer strikes. And I’m sorry I didn’t see this sooner! Having problems with your gun is the worst. It’s super stressful, but I’m confident that once you get all of the issues squared away and tuned properly it will be the most reliable handgun someone can buy.

Awesome video. Please use better lighting if you’re trying to show stuff like fitment but other than that very informative

@@brianrussi4328 thanks and sorry my friend, I do the best I can with what I have. I don’t make anything off of these videos. Hence, the no commercials and no ads. I just try to share my experiences and opinions, with my fellow freedom loving Americans! But if this trucking market ever bounces back, I will certainly invest in some better equipment to make better content.

@ I haven’t gotten a prodigy yet but I’ve been getting parts for it so when I do get one I’ll have all the mim parts gone and polished internals before I shoot it

It is definitely an awesome gun to customize and make it your own. Once you get it, I just recommend checking the head spacing in the barrel and the extractor. It would be ideal to check the head spacing in the chamber before buying it, but that will depend on the dealer you purchase it from. Considering the easiest way to check is with some different live rounds.. but I’m sure they sell a tool to measure. I have two prodigies. The 4.25 and 5 inch and the head spacing in the chamber was too tight on the 4.25 and the extractor was too loose on both. Which is an easy fix. The biggest thing is to just make sure it is tuned properly. Because regardless of the parts, if they are out of tune it will be less than reliable. Which is why this gun got such a bad reputation. None of them are built badly. It is an excellent quality quality firearm. Springfield just dropped the ball on quality control. I’m guessing to keep the price point low they basically assembled and shipped.

@ I’m not sure how to check the head spacing 😂 and no ffl I know will let up check with live rounds I could just buy and immediately send to Springfield for the chamber ream and Polish. What’s your front sight? Kensight??

@brianrussi4328 well I’d recommend just grabbing a few different brands of 9 mm ammo and when you get home, remove the barrel and put different types of ammo into the chamber. They should slide right in and fall right out with gravity. And they should go all the way in. If a specific brand does not fit try a different round from that brand. And if it is clear that only certain ammo will fit in and come out properly, then send the barrel or entire gun to Springfield but they won’t just take it unless there’s something wrong with it. it would certainly be faster to take it to a local gunsmith for reaming if it is under size. But hopefully you won’t have that issue. My 5 inch was perfect.
