Impossible if you are doing 3/4 pex B in wall. You dont have the leverage as the pipe will be in the adjacent studs already.

Quick question; what if my moen cartridge is neither of these? It’s most like the 1222, but has wings at the outside end- still retained by a clip. The outer portion refuses to be rotated. Any ideas?

So if you have a pull out handle its the 1225? Wouldn't each of these cartridges be for a pull out ?
@TheOldkid888
@TheOldkid888 25 күн бұрын
Hello Fireinahorn, That is correct. The 1225 is the cartridge that you pull out to turn on the water. Not sure if you see it in the video, but the 1222 is wider and you turn it to allow the water to flow. The 1222 is used for the newer model bath and shower faucets only. It is for the posi-temp faucet where the water temperature stays the same if someone turns on another faucet. Hope this helps! Thanks for commenting and enjoy your week! Al

Not clear about the 1225 hot and cold
@TheOldkid888
@TheOldkid888 29 күн бұрын
Hello clydegrady1007, The 1225 cartridge is used for both sink and bath/shower faucets. It pulls out to allow the water to flow and turns to the right for cold and left for hot. If you have a Moen kitchen sink or basin faucet then the 1225 is what is needed. The 1222 cartridge is only used for bath/shower faucets, but it cannot be pulled out. You simply turn the handle counterclockwise to go from cold to hot water. It is only used in posi-temp faucets which keeps the water temperature constant. The two cartridges cannot be interchanged. Moen first came out with the 1225 bath/shower faucet all that was used was the 1225. The 1222 posi-temp allowed a person to get a shower and have a constant temperature even if another faucet was being used at the same time. This was many years later. Hope this helps. Thanks for commenting and enjoy your week! Al

@@TheOldkid888 Thank you for the details... whoa... but that is not what I meant. I thought there may be a way to just look at the 1225 and know which side was hot/cold. I guess we just have to install and test... if wrong, rotate the cartridge
@TheOldkid888
@TheOldkid888 25 күн бұрын
@@clydegrady1007 Sorry I got a little off track on that. Missed your drift all together. Unfortunately there is no way to tell when you are installing the cartridge. If you install the cartridge and the cold is on the left it is just a matter of rotating the canter brass stem 180 degrees. You only have to remove the handle, the chrome sleeve and take a pair of pliers and give the center stem the 180. Again...my apologize on the previous ramble. Hello candisellis185, So much depends on water quality when it comes to making the repair. The handle removal is probably the hardest part of it. If you can shut your water off and turn the handle upside down a drop or tow of penetrating oil allowed to sit for a few hours may allow you to take the set screw out. Hope this helps! @TheOldkid888
@TheOldkid888 2 ай бұрын
Hello geefim2144, The faucet you have is the older style and uses the 1225 cartridge which you pull and push to operate. When you turn on the water elsewhere while in the shower the temperature probably changes as well. The newer model uses a 1222 cartridge and turns counterclockwise to open and adjust the temp. It also was designed so that the temperature remains constant no matter how many faucets are running elsewhere. In order to have the 1222 cartridge with the posi-temp you would have to change out the faucet unfortunately. Thanks for commenting and enjoy your week! Al

Thanks for making this video. I was wondering if you've been using the Kindred 1140 strainer? If so, do you think the Kindred 1135 or 1140 is better and why? I like how the 1135 has fewer parts to corrode but hate cutting plastic tailpieces haha. Thanks.
@TheOldkid888
@TheOldkid888 2 ай бұрын
Hello shivraj67, Kindred strainers are great as far as I am concerned. I do like the 1135 better only because it's all plastic. I have never had an issue with them. I really like the design of the underside gasket as well and how it pulls up to bottom of the sink with the center nut. Only problem is it can be a little long for some applications and you sometimes have to either cut the tailpiece or go with a shorter strainer. I don't mind the 1140 either, but I prefer the 35. The 1135 has less parts and very easy to install. One thing I have found over the past 45 years at this trade is you only get what you pay for. You have probably come across strainers that have had white metal nuts on the tailpieces and the strainer itself rusting out. You have no worries with the 1135, no matter what kind of water goes down it. I know the 1140 should last as long as the 35. The jury is still out on that I believe. As long as the stainless quality is there, there shouldn't be an issue for years...if not decades. I have noticed a few items that I have installed that were supposedly stainless steel and rust forming on them shortly after. And these are reputable manufacturers that I have been using for quite some time. Not sure what is taking place, but I am going to drop them a message and pass this along. Like everything I guess they are trying to save a few dollars, but giving up quality at the same time. Thanks for commenting and enjoy your week! Al

So all the hair goes into the septic tank, wonder how much that's gonna cost
@TheOldkid888
@TheOldkid888 2 ай бұрын
Hello TheHappyDIYGuy-ri8nb, Let's put it this way. I would rather have my plumbing fixtures working than not. You are suppose to get your septic tank cleaned out every five years....standard practice. I live outside the city where there are hundreds (more like thousands) of septic tanks and not a single soul is ever worried about hair going into their tank. If the drain does not plug and runs continuously with no issues the hair goes down the drain anyway. The cost of getting the tank pumped is around $350 Canadian. I worry more about grease going down a kitchen drain than hair. Believe me I have been at this for over for decades and grease can be a nightmare as you probably know. Thanks for commenting and have a great week! Al

Hello imjimimack, When I made my videos I put annotations on all of them from start to finish using youtubes set up. The first one was always turn the water off before working on any faucet or waterline. A few years ago youtube removed all annotations on all videos. Any you see on videos on youtube now are put on using editing software. Many people I would assume do not know how to or know that it is necessary to turn off the water. I get that question from time to time. I am going to go through all my videos in the near future and add this as the top comment which will stay in place.
