Why are the captions autogenerated, and not a personalised script? This is disappointing given the subject and the targeted audience.

I am sorry you’re disappointed. The captions are 99%+ accurate and the target audience is hearing parents of deaf children - this is why I chose this option.

Hi Stuart 🙂 Do you have idea why I can't hear any words or identifiable sound after more than a month since my cochlear implant activation? I only feel heartbeat or electrical pulses in my left ear and faint bell sound on my right ear. I hope you can guide me. Thanks 🙂

I saw your comment on another video - I asked how many mapping sessions you have had? You are newly implanted and very recently switched on, and I wouldn't want to saw what is or isn't normal. However, mapping sessions are critical to get your hearing where it needs to be.
@billsanchez58542 жыл бұрын
Thank you coach Stuart. I have 3 visits to my audiologist since my activation. is that mapping already? I noticed recently I hear this sound, like coming from fan or ac on my right ear and faint sound, like metal clank on my right ear. But no words or regular sounds yet. I consult this to you because most of the videos I see on KZbin and read on the internet says they hear sound or words on their first day. Thank you.
@TheCochlearImplantCoach2 жыл бұрын
@@billsanchez5854 Yes, I do believe these sessions are / have been your mapping sessions. I'm sorry you're disappointed by your hearing experience so far - there may be other medical reasons why you're experiencing a delay, but PLEASE mention this to your audiologist. Where do you hail from?

Hi coach Stuart. I'm from Philippines. My cochlear implant is in Dubai. My cochlear implant team is very supportive and they say what I experience is normal because the results varies with patients. Great episode ! I do feel what you've been through. I"ve had severe hearing loss since i was a baby at 9 months old diagnose with meningitis. Been wearing bilateral hearing aids ever since all my life until one day i became dizzy/vertigo,tinnutis and discovered more hearing loss on my left ear! It was a sad moment because it was to the point where my hearing aids no longer benefited me! I went to a new audiologist that specialize hearing and balance disorders to help my vertigo problems! Well low and behold the first thing she did was take a hearing test, and as soon she completed and walked in the booth , she ask why I don't consider cochlear implant ! I said all my life i would of never thought I'd be a candidate or eligible for a cochlear implant!. I was shocked as she told me I'm highly qualified to have the implant and that in the past the criteria was mostly strictly for profound hearing losses and kept to a minimum group of people! But here we are in the modern technological world that Cochlear implants even open the door for more eligible participants and I still can't believe this was happening! So here I begin my journey to become the new me! Make long story short about my history, I'm 48 years old , wore bilateral hearing since the age of 18 months old. mainstream in regular class with honors, went to college for 3 years and pursued a degree in Radiologic technologist performing medical Xrays/and Cat scans. It was a tough journey to go to school and do my profession because it took major efforts to explain my peers on how to communicate with me as I was a great lip reader! so far I'm still doing my job and going on 22 years ! Wow time past fast and absolutely bless to be working! Now flash back 2 years ago when I started having vertico /tinnitus my world change because it was the starting point or considering a cochlear implant and looking forward hearing much better than my old outdated hearings which would no longer benefit me nearly like an implant would! In September 2021 I received a left cochlear implant on my left ear, I chose the cochlear America, nucleus7 and Kanso2. Activated on October 19th, once activated I was frustrated because it was no where what I thought it would be ! All I was hearing on the implant was bells and whistles! Boy, talk about I was down. But the Audiologist reassure me to not get frustrated because its not an overnite remedy! So here I go doing auditory therapy and its slowly helping me every week as I'm going on 4 months . But I'm glad to find you here and you definitely raise my esteem that my implant will be the Wonderful thing!. As of now I'm still struggling to get clear sound from the implants but I'm hanging in there and doing my homework to listening programs and auditory therapy. I'm schedule to do my right ear this summer in August ! Will keep you updated as I'm starting a new me! Keep up the videos and make wonderful episodes as I enjoy watching and listening!

Hi Stuart. I'm a father of a two (2) years old kid who was diagnosed with a severe hearing loss. Honestly, I feel devastated thinking that I had to notice it or act before. We're currently in the process for evaluating if He's a candidate for cochlear implants. I found your words absolutely hopeful and sincerely, they encourage me to think that We are not late, and if we put a 110% of effort during the rehabilitation, We might get really good improvements and a bright future for him. Thank you so much my friend.

Good tips. Lately, I asked audiologist for a mute program added to my processor for use when city or restaurant sounds wear me down. That was really helpful! I also suggested an intermission at audiologist's clinic to walk around lobby or waiting room to try out environmental sounds and people talking in my new mapping like trying a shoe out for size. That was helpful. I also had created a third program for enhanced music listening as I originally found that some sounds were missed. Would it be nice if audiologist had an electronic keyboard in room so that I can try out all the notes for discrinination apart? Though I am not Beethoven, I really love music.

I have lovely but strange deaf acquaintance who thinks that people who get cochlear implants are "traitors" to deaf-culture. He's okay at lip-reading but it's difficult to converse with him. He believes that the world has an obligation to him to learn ASL rather than he working harder on his speaking skills. I can understand him, but it's a struggle. I had to train my brain to understand him and it's still difficult. (Sometimes it's too difficult and I'll kind of avoid spending a lot of time with him whenever we're at the same social gathering or event.) Is this common? What do you say to someone who embraces their own deafness so closely because they believe it makes them "who they are"? Is this peer-pressure from the deaf-community who feel that a member would be "betraying" others if they could hear?
@TheCochlearImplantCoach3 жыл бұрын
Sadly, I have heard stories - and language - likethis in the past, but I think there are clarifications to be made. I was not born deaf and all of my family are hearing, so I could not be raised as 'deaf' as my parents had no prior experience of deaf culture was and therefore could not even provide me with a deaf culture. If someone is born deaf and sign language is their main means of communication, that is simply the way it is. If that person could benefit from hearing aids or a cochlear implant, but chooses not to, I totally respect that. However, to call those who were not born deaf 'traitors' just because they wanted to maximise their opportunities in the hearing world is a personal choice and the Deaf/deaf need to respect that too. There should be no animosity of either side - it all comes down to personal choice. If I was born deaf, I might have a very different view, but since I wasn't born deaf, why should I subscribe to deaf culture. If someone loses their hearing at 50, should they also subscribe to deaf culture? I don't think it's peer pressure per se, but an inability to see things from another's perspective.

Stuart, if you are still monitoring your KZbin video of the CI Connect, which is really great, I have a question! I think I notice you have the CI Connect on just your right processor. If I'm correct on that, are you hearing the TV in only your right ear? Or do you actually have a CI Connect on both of your processors? If so, are they both working off of the one TV Connector or do you need two TV Connectors, one for each CI Connect? I can't imagine having to have two TV Connectors! Thanks.
