Wow what a process 😳 Now I understand why all these companies are popping up that offer services like every thing you did to expats . So basically a lawyer to package and stamp everything. Do you think one of these companies would have saved you frustration, time, and money or just a part or wasted more money?

Next time you could try getting a cheap piece of plywood that is a little bigger than the new sink, make a practice cut on that and test fit it to the sink. If it works, you use the plywood as a template to measure and cut the countertop. Also, draw 90-degree angles in the corners, and when you drill the holes make sure you cut on the waste side of the laminate, not the side you want to keep. Line up the drill so that the edges just touch the lines where they intersect.

Wow thank you for putting this together. This is exactly what I need to do. I also have a motorhome that I want to register in Portugal. Do you know if I need to be a resident of Portugal to register a car here? And what is the name of some of those companies that do this paperwork for us? Sounds like something I'd definitely need, not speaking Portuguese and really disliking paperwork.

Some of them are already taller than our fence. But others are smaller and then others we had to replant because some died, so we have all sizes!

Can you tell me where we can find bark mulch like this in Portugal? I live near Lisbon, and I haven't been able to find any. Thanks!

A lot of places that sell things like gravel and sand and bigger building stuff usually will have this. We bought ours in Quinta do Conde, just south of Lisbon.

I think it's SO SO sweet how the woman acts as his "assistant" and sweeps the sawdust away from his workspace every 30 seconds or so. sadly as soon u will find out the wood chips chunks are too big and will take years to turn into "soil" or even hold moisture. If you can find a wood chipper and process them into smaller chunks that will help. I am interested in buying a property in Portugal and I was wondering how readily available wood chips are in that country. Any ideas in regards of tree leaves??? In some parts of Portugal the soil is just a thin layer so if one wants to grow good food the soils need to be build up ....
@umacasaverde1956
@umacasaverde1956 Жыл бұрын
honestly the woodchips are a hard thing to find here unless you buy in a big bulk as a company, and also can be very expensive. These are too big, but it's the best we can find. we have a little woodchipper, but with the amount of things we have here to chop it barely covers any area.
@lolitabonita08
@lolitabonita08 Жыл бұрын
@@umacasaverde1956 I see...how u can solve the problem...the best way to decompost the wood chips is to make a pile and keep them wet...this is best done when the raining seasson starts because the chips will be wet all the time..just turne them time to time. after the season ends just put them in the wood chipper to break them up and voila u have a better quality mulch

if you can collect grass cuttings, put them in black bin liners, position them on top of each other so the bottom corners are pointing outwards, make a small hole so when they start to rot down and produce liquid (high nitrogen) you can use this as a nitrogen feed diluted down, hope this helps for your veg growing a little bit better 🙂

i learned an easier way. place sink onto worksurface where you'd like it and draw around it. then draw another line at least 2 cm inside of your drawn line. that is where you cut.

@@umacasaverde1956 I have since learnt to first place the worktop onto the cabinets upside down and then internally scribe/draw lines at the top of the cabinet walls (left and right). This ensures that you mark your sink placement correctly. Measure your sink and subtract from depth - this will be how much space you will have front and back.- Using T'square/speed square, place your sink allowing for this. My sink is 52cm by 59.5cm and my worktop depth is 63cm. With Ikea, their cabinets have vent rails both front and back; I allowed 5.5cm for this. The sink sits just inside of the vent at the front. Next, line up the sink BOWL between the two cabinet lines (worktop should be upside down) and allow the lip of the sink to go at least 12mm - 20mm over the scribed lines (depending upon the sink lip size) - actual bowl must be between the two cabinet lines. Draw around your sink lip ensuring that it is at least 12mm from the cabinet lines that you originally scribed. Next Next, draw another line at least *1.2 - 2cm (*measure the lip of the sink to gauge depth of cut) inside of your drawn lip line. that is where you cut. I use duck tape or general masking tape on both sides of the worksurface.

You need a planting Calendar or an almanac for your region. Your parents in law or older neighbours may know of one. If not ask in your local nursery or farm shop. You can put a sprig of rosemary or Thyme in olive oil leave it for a week or two this is good for salad dressings, marinades and you can rub it on meat before you cook. There are lots of secondhand book shops on line, they are not as good value as a charity shop but still useful. 💚

Yeah, Fabios parents also have a garden, so I kind of follow their calendar of planting and also what I see others doing here, like neighbors. I can look up a planting calendar yes, but I it's still quite a tricky thing here, because so many things can be grown at different times! I really should try infused olive oil, we have a few liters of oil from Fabios parents Olives as well, so thats a cool idea!

Dress the soil around the trees with well rotted manure and compost, all the chicken bedding can be used. Then mulch, this should be done over the autumn. Are your neighbours having similar problems? I was amazed that you had done so well, I was very envious of your tomatoes I had blight this year so had none🙁chickens love sweet potato vines, just take off the ends and the vines will still grow. How did your hedge along the wall hold up? Make the garden as hands off as possible this autumn as you will be very busy with the baby and the puppy next spring so don’t over work yourself❤️

Thanks for all the lovely tips! We have added manure and compost and also mulch around the trees, but it's still not enough. Our neighbors also had a rough summer, but they don't have any young trees. The hedge along the fence is doing ok, just still missing some plants in one end, waiting for autumn to plant those!
