Did they really play the National Anthem on TV like that? Oh my sweet summer child! They also used to post a 10pm notice asking if you knew where your kids were. We weren't as molly-coddled as kids today.

I enjoyed your review of one of my favorite ghost stories! The ball always got me watching this movie. When he drops it in the river and when it come back down the stairs, it's even still wet! And of course the creepy wheelchair moving around with POV shots! There are no sequels that I know of.

A couple suggestions for shows to watch. Painkiller Jane or Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles with Summer Glau.

I feel like it would have been a different movie, but around 17:45 when Christine rams the other dudes car, would have been cool if that car was also possessed (I mean, those guys also had very bad attitudes) and the two cars began attacking each other.

Jen, since you enjoy sci-fi/horror combo flicks, I highly recommend the 1978 version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Halloween III(radically different from the rest of the films in the series which combines the element of fantasy as well.).

This is an essential cheesy cult classic! Regarding TV show versions of Flash Gordon, there was a brief series in the 50's, an outstanding animated series in the late 70's to early 80's, a less than stellar animated series in the 90's and a horrendous show from the 21st century which may explain why there hasn't been any more movies or TV shows in a while. If you like some serious sci-fi cheese, I recommend Starcrash, an Italian Star Wars knockoff.

It's always a joy to see folks reacting to this movie. It's my all-time favorite. Since you like these old school 70's sci-fi flicks Jen, I have a recommendation for you, Colossus: The Forbin Project.

The second movie is very different but also *very* good in it's own way. The third one is a prequel and it's fun but not as good as the other two imo. I've loved these movies for o long now! You wondered how the movie was received at the time.. well Columbine had just happened before they started filming and the whole thing almost fell through because of the teenage violence and school setting. This also really hurt it's release, so it only had a short run in Canadian theatres.. but it's gained a huge cult following since

Christ, if I took a shot for every time the word 'ridiculous' or 'cheesy' was said, i'd be a full blown alcoholic. Typical millennial, doesnt understand subtlety at all and acting all smug about it. If you paid attention insead of picking holes in it, basically Byron was a butler type and he euthanised his master because his master asked him to. P.S. if you actually bothered to read the credits, the location work was shot in Ireland and Turkey.

first couple of drafts had Max originally as an ambulance driver, the director George Miller was an emergency room doctor and used his salary from that to help fund the film.

Smarter reaction to Exorcist yet. But the head spinning was an illusion, the medical procedure was a Cranial Arteriorgraph, and you really need to read Easy Rider, Raging Bulls which is the history of The New Hollywood Movement which started with Blow-Up in 1966 and more or less ended in 79 with Heaven:s Gate, which bankrupted United Artists). No one who loves movies should be with it. Flicker is the only other book you'll need. It's a secret history of the movies disguised as a novel. And 5:54 stop saying "How did he do that? I want to know. Comment below" . It sounds like you're trying to get others to do your research. It sounds like you're relying on us to do your research for you. Otherwise, 😅

The people who made this one of the top ten biggest grossing movies of all time were the mainstream movies going audience, not horror/slasher nerds who saw it 30 or 40 times, like Star Wars. The people who braved bad weather, long lines, and a "sold out" possibility were the people who hired babysitters and went out to eat before the movie. They saw My Fair Lady and The French Connection and Patton and what's Up Doc. They wouldn't be caught dead seeing Texas Chainsaw and Night of the Living Dead and Last House On The Left. And the sure as heck didn't get tickets and places in line online. And they watched this with the respect they gave any serious drama while sneering at movies like The Wizard Of Gore and 2000 Maniacs and I Eat Your Skin and Beyond The Valley Of The Ultra-Voxrns. Deliverance, just as disturbing, got the same respect. Rosemary's Baby got modern Horror started in 1968, followed by Deliverance and The Exorcist..ALL 3 won awards up the wazoo and all 3 made tons of mo Ed l⁹ the top 5 nidin ney, The Exorcist making tons to the nth ofney. All 3 were in the top tent of their years. This was horror by The New Hollywood Movement, guys who didn't want to be associated with horror. Those 3 movies carry the DNA of every horror movie since The Exorcist, last of the big 3 to be released, Deliverance being the best..it's been called the most stolen-from modern American movie. Hope you react to it and Bonnie & Clyde and Straw Dogs (which stars Dustin Hoffman, directed by Sam Peckinpaugh in an ultra violent movie).

Yeah, it’s very The Illiad meets Gladiator (2000) meets cyberpunk (the genre) with some ham-fisted “red scare” propaganda à la Ayn Rand’s Anthem, and like Anthem it’s broad and ambiguous enough that this element of the film can be read in a few separate ways. Nonetheless, heavy “wrath of Achilles” vibes.

This was fun to watch. When my father took me to see Rollerball in 1975 I was nine years old, and the themes and prophetic warnings of this wildly under-appreciated film have never left my mind. Thank you to whoever pointed out, this a Norman Jewison picture, can you imagine a career where you direct Rollerball, Fiddler on the Roof, and Moonstruck? 😯
