Sam is played by Keivonn Montreal Woodard. He is deaf, and the other actors learned ASL to be able to communicate with him on set. ☺ He was probably 9-10 years old at the time of filming. Even more of a gut punch? They made the character younger AND deaf for the show. In the game, Sam is Ellie's age, and he's not deaf. But Sam & Henry do meet the same demise. Kathleen and her group are a creation of the show. In the game, we meet Henry & Sam in Pittsburgh and they're being chase by a "faceless" army. (We never meet any leader). They move the locale to Kansas City for the show, because Calgary (where they filmed) look more like Kansas City than Pittsburgh Both Keivonn & Lamar Johnson, who plays Henry, were nominated for "Guest Star In A Drama Series", at the Emmy's (which Nick Offerman won)

I'm actually surprised by how well you kept it together during this episode. After seeing the water works during the episode with Bill and Frank I figured this episode would end with a flow of tears to rival Niagra Falls.

This episode was sadder than Bill and Frank. Bill and Frank lived long, happy, mostly peaceful lives. They got to go out on their terms after a great last day. Henry and Sam were just kids and never had peace.
