I can't say I ever had the urge to create hydrazine, because it's one of those chemicals that terrified me even before this video, but interesting to see 😂

Another much simpler blue you might try is Egyptian Blue. CaCuSi4O10 (subscript numbers). I've had some luck creating it but I had to soak the product in vinegar to get out the excess copper oxide. I bet you could do it better. Thanks and take care.

Ah, yes. synthetic dyes. AKA: the time traveling chemist's money printer. A little primitive glassware, a few basic refining steps (repeated until you have something pure enough) and a carefully controlled furnace = all the vibrant blue or purple dye you can sell.

I was a chemist for Dow Chemical co for 14 years before i started my own business to spend more time with my young children. I worked 6, 7 days a week, 14 to 16 hours a day. I was involved in a lot of groundbreaking projects with NASA, Boeing, Lockheed, Nike, etc etc. I worked with some of the worst, extremely dangerous, extremely toxic, poisonous, corrosive, explosive, and flammable chemicals on earth. One of the worst was Epichlorohydrine. That stuff was literally every hazard rolled into one chemical, lol. My plant was on the top 3 list for terrorist attacks due to the ability to release chemicals in the air and wipe out a 100-mile radius in hours. So i have nerves of steel because of that job. Too many people get way too comfortable in these positions tho, thats when they get sloppy and careless. Unfortunately, they end up getting extremely hurt, injured, disabled, or ☠️☠️. Great job, my friend, I am a new sub!

Hydrazine was used in the drag racing world. You knew when someone was running it when the exhaust was green. Cars made insane power on it and it resulted in some serious explosions in the cars. It has been outlawed in racing for a while now but when a record needed to be broken, you would see the green monster coming out of the exhaust pipes.

Isn't is extremely dangerous to mix ammonia and bleach which makes phosgene and chloramine? I remember a story of fire fighters dying one after another trying to rescue a window cleaner who wiped a window with bleach after it was cleaned with ammonia.

My son worked on F16s, which used hydrazine. His best friend got hydrazine accidentally dumped on him, and even though they followed all the guidelines for exposure, it still gave him chemically induced leukemia. It took him around 1 1/2 years to die a very painful death. I was told that in training, they were told that just one breath of hydrazine fumes would take 10 years off of their life.
