I have a problem with "rarely have we seen a person fail who has thoroughly followed our path".. as it goes on to say, "those who do not are constitutionally incapable of being honest with themselves". I'm 25 years sober and still, to this day, find that to be a very intimidating and condescending statement. My warning to you is, be careful who you share your shit with.. as there is very little "anonymity" in AA.
@GrowthGuidedАй бұрын
Yes. There are many unwell folks in AA. It’s far from a perfect place but it’s free and safe enough than the alternative for those who find themselves wanting to disappear. I try not to expect to much for the last door of free help when it comes to drugs and alcohol. Be interesting if the Big Book was written in today’s language and not 1930’s. I’m glad you got so many years without substance. Proud of you.

I can’t stay sober long enough to start reading… it’s the anxiety when sitting down to read… the possibilities of failure. So thank you for reading it and explaining portions. ❤

You are wonderful. Don’t let your brain talk you out of this. This is an awful disease and I’m proud of you for trying to change your life. The great thing is most people who approach this with a desperate desire to change eventually get it. You don’t do it alone. You are loved. Now get to work champion !

This chapter is very sexist. Written in the 1930’s when women couldn’t divorce… it’s sad. It is aimed at the woman living for the man even when he destroys their family.

It is a troubling chapter to read for a lot of folks but try and use the word wife with husband, partner, spouse interchangeably is what I do.

Thank you and all the others that have helped me this far along the way and if I do tomorrow what I did today and learn to listen and listen to learn I will possibly be sober tomorrow, all I have is today I’m staying in today thank you you’re helping me greatly tonight. I hope I hear from you. If not, that’s OK too.

The first thing I tell newcomers is that the actual meat and the actual program is only the first 7 chapters. Not even half an inch thick. Not even 100 pages….. And of course chapter 11. But everything else is just personal stories. When I realized that it was a HUGE RELIEF!!! Reading 7 chapters is doable. But looking at that big ass book, I didn’t even want to start it. Good job for doing this for people. So awesome. Thank you for your altruism :)

@@GrowthGuided not at all. You’re relatable and you explain things. It’s basically just like when we sit down with a sponsor and they read the book to us. I love it. I actually saved it in my sponsee playlist, to send out to people I’m working with who are new to the program. It’s way more updated sounding than the audio book. That guys voice is the cringe. I’m like UGHHHHHH!!! Thank you for providing an alternative to the cringe.🙏🏼✨😇🙌🏼

Tha k you for making these videos. I'm not new to recovery or the halls but I fell off the wagon harder than ever and my book... it feels like.. fucking evil encarnate. It's hard to explain. I feel like a cat being held above a pool. I know I need to read and I know it's good for me but every bone in my body is screaming to run away from it... It's so heartbreaking to know that 100 proof whiskey could change me so fucking gast and aggressively. That it could make me practically forget everything I already read and learned about my sobriety. They say your misery will be refunded but no one ever mentions that you get it with interest as well. Thank you for producing these videos I can't express how helpful it is to have these read TO me until I can "wash" the whiskey off my brain enough to read for myself. I'm not only ashamed but embarrassed to share this all but it is what it is..
