Hi Mike, great content here, I have a 3yr old 130QE which has lost all ram pressure standing in the cabinet for about 2 months, any chance on sharing the spring size used in the conversion, as I have a good selection from Webley patriots and the like, (along with a reliable spring manufacturer, who ha produced great components to my spec previously) . . . I see you used two wire gauges in the spring, rest of the conversion I am happy to get into (having a machine shop and 45 years of playing with airgun internals, :-) for my own benefit only) . . . one thing I totally agree with is the Hatsan manufacture quality is a shambles!, my old UK made Wembley Patriot (1982, 34ftlbs) is still getting used 3-4 times a week, totally in love with springers! keep the content coming, we are appreciating an excellent insight for those that understand, Awesome! 🙂

Hi Ray It started years ago. Taking a powerful junky made rifle and learning what it would take to hone it in , smooth it and bring it around to being very accurate. also a good friend of mine was on the same quest and in time we both were able to get there. the triggers are not bad once you know what to do with them. but the air gun world is full of haters snobs and high minded people who think they know everything, and usually the first reaction to a gun is a negative one.

That was quite an intro!!! I thought I had clicked on a "The Best New Sci. Fi. of 2024" video by mistake. The vid was very enjoyable, and I do feel your Hatsan pain! I was thinking of sending you one or two Hatsan Strikers to tune. One is a 20 .Webley Valumax version with a Welsh Willie trigger. The other is a .25 Hatsan marked Striker with the hard to pull regular trigger! They are shooting pretty well in the 14-15 ft/lb range with no twang, but some vibration. Now I'm thinking of saving you some Hatsan rigmarole, and me some money on the tunes!!!

I have his email if you want to email him. One thing Chris did not do in his old look at the power I taken the patriot too videos was he never showed accuracy

@MrSteppingstone888 20 күн бұрын
Thousands of dollars?? what did you buy? Knowledge is everything typically high end rifles are good quality and pcp are generally a lot more accurate due to no recoil but typically even a Weihrauch can have a mediocre pellet to bore fit but at least its not a over sized bore like this hatsan had and those weihrauch springers are low powered so the choke on them saves the day

Have taken out type 2 piston from my mod 125 sniper due to failing. While installing my new type 2 piston I come up 7/16 shy of my end piece fitting flush. It’s like the piston needs pushed in however even with force against the floor, I can’t get it to give. Any advice? Am I to build a clamp rig ?
@MrSteppingstone888
@MrSteppingstone888 29 күн бұрын
Hi Bill ok what is type two piston? #1 the gas ram must be long enough to be able for the rod to close up with out bottoming out for the full cocking of the gun and #2 the gas ram has to have pre load so when its installed the end plug is sticking out no less than 1/8 or the gas ram will reach its travel when fired causing the rod to hit its end damaging it and failure #3 yes you need to make a spring compressor or send it to me and I will re build the original gas ram properly so it wont fail and return the receiver with ram installed. if your installing another gas ram if its to short then you need to machine a round steel insert with a divot for the rams arm to seat in the middle so everything reaches the proper install point

Hi Mike, I took a look as you suggested and you are quite right silly expensive, and it is much the same story here, too much money for what you get. Whilst a very attractive gun [ I have two of these Spanish built lightnings ]they are not of the quality of the old BSA supersport/lightnings. I think the main problem is the terrible state of the European economy. Another reason is that for the last forty years or so the BSA airguns have been pushed as the Rolls Royce of airguns in Spain driving up demand and price in their new country of manufacture. It would appear that this is a truly international con. Both BSA and Gamo are now owned by Remington who also own several other manufacturers and distribution outlets here in the UK they own Milbro and Sports Marketing amongst others, I have tried to find out who owns Remington these days but the trail goes cold.there was at one time a listing for a couple of Asian guys but that disappeared. It would appear that there is a great deal of skullduggery going on in the world of arms manufacture that is not being referred to through the usual monopolies boards which rather suggests high level corruption.Very strange things were happening at Webley and Scot before they went down in 2006 new directors every month or two, something was obviously wrong there.But there were no reports to be found, interesting that a major British arms manufacturer could get into trouble and not a word in the media. Thats all by the by quality control has obviously slipped with bsa/gamo at least as far as the springers are concerned the PCP's are still made in the UK. I was interested to see what was going on inside the moderators a rather odd configuration what surprises me most is that they seem to work so well. I recently acquired a HW moderator never again what a piece of junk, now there is a major rip off touting forty year old tec like it's gods gift at those prices I dont know how they have the nerve.

the air gun world is locked up also forum wise its greed and money. Hatsan is strange also they know exactly what there doing and refuse to use quality steel and proper quality control on the barrels, their steel is so junky you cant even heat treat it to harden it, machinist laugh when they see a barrel block. I am currently having some steel barrel blocks made for the big magnums I been able to turn that entire magnum around and hone it in to accurate and smooth
@davidprocter3578

Mike inspite of claims to the contrary these guns have been redesigned and are built by Gamo in Spain. As evidenced by the dreadful Gamo piston seal [ proper BSA's have a FWB type piston seal ] and the terrible Gamo trigger unit and anti beartrap unit. The original BSA trigger might not have been the best unit in the world but it was certainly head and shoulders above the Gamo unit. Having said all that both the BSA and the Gamo built guns are capable powerful guns, my advice throw away the gas ram fit decent piston seals and a quality spring [obviously if converting from gas ram you will need a piston liner and spring guides] and they will go to 17 fpe without any specialized tunning.If you know what you are about the .25 caliber version will go to 23 fpe plus. The Gaqmo built guns can have a problem with the breech jaws being too wide allowing the barrel to wobble and should be checked and adjusted if needed.Personally I would not touch the transfer port I have never found it necessary.

As I probably mentioned in the past I amassed six of these beauties, I am now down to one having sold the rest, They were a really good investment, far far better than money in the bank. Pensioner now that I am it was time to cash up and I had the pleasure of oiling and shooting them, not something you can do with money in the bank. The value of these guns still rising, have you seen what has happened to the prices of theobens in the last four years? Genuine Venom conversions and Webley Longbows and Tomahawks All on the climb.

@@johnhawkins4162 those seals were usually for low powered guns but your hatsan 95 at 800fps in .22 14.3 grn pellet its a mid powered magnum not saying it would not work to some degree. I would use the hatsan factory seal for the trouble unless your really looking forward to finding out nothing wrong with that. Hey there buddy, I'm late to the party. I have a 22 Pro Elite I bought new way back & it shot like a dream. Later I joined GTA & I inquired about someone who worked on the old Gamo 1250 Hunter. I have the one with the made in England near the barrel. Back then Gamo had life-time warranties on their rifles & boy did I take advantage of it. Anyway, I found a guy on GTA who tuned Gamo's so I sent mine to him & he did wonders to it. I asked if he could work on my Pro Elite & he said yes. He changed the breech seal & got a spec replacement spring for it. When it was shipped back UPS had broke the stock almost at the same spot yours was broke at. of course they said it wasn't by their hands but I had to buy a thumb hole walnut stock from over seas. He put it together for me & it shoots just as good as always. It's the most accurate break barrel I own, though I haven't shot it in about 8yrs, only because I got 3 PCPs. You're gonna make me pull it out, but I gotta figure out the pellets it liked. I believe it liked the Sheridan's (Benjamin's). Good luck with yours.

Wow I have the walnut Custom stocks UK thumb hole stock for mine also, I guess there the only ones who will ship it to usa I have yet to go thru it and finish it up. but currently I bought a mint unused pro elite .22 sitting in a safe since new I just got done going tru it the springs are 0.147 wire I checked several times and keep getting that reading not a 0.148 which is a heavy duty spring I doubt if they would loose their strength or get weak not from that set up they can be little mechanically noisy due to the metal spring guide not fitting the spring better often those springs get over lubed to keep some of the noise down to fit a better custom made guide the factory spring would need a couple coils off which those have about 4 closed coils on the piston side so its doable but the way the guide has a tit that drops into the trigger base with the middle drilled out for the piston rod so it would be thin I will make something special for mine and cut two closed coils off when I get to it

I had two RWS stamped Diana 34 totally over sized bore over sized bore is not a light bore to pellet contact its no pellet to bore contact and a light pellet to bore contact on a magnum will result in a lot more recoil even if you find something that fits better its best to have a proper pellet to bore fit period later you can hone in on what pellet it shines to

Hi Harry on this 135 absolutely !! first off at the factory length from hatsan the 10-1/2" barrel most of the time there could be 1/3rd of it that is over size having no pellet to bore contact so there you have even less then 10-1/2" working along with the shot cycle 14" if it had proper pellet to bore contact would most likely be ok but a longer bore say to 16" gives it plenty and also aids in cocking with out it being to long where the barrel can whip or waver. Yes if you get a good one that is great,👍 I have custom seals for the hatsan magnums that smooth the piston blow and the seal edge wont burn off. the guns can have issue due to the cheap soft steal at the barrel block you tighten the bolt good and it looses its tightness some have the forks to far, currently working on testing to see if the barrel block can be heat treated after the barrel is pulled etc and some other mods. currently re barreling a 30 cal with a 15" hammer forged barrel and setting up in vortek spring and a custom guide set up instead of the ram. these guns can be honed in to be smoother and more accurate .Yes you were a lucky one no one steps up to say any thing its business as usual . its all about the dollar

It's known to do research before purchasing in the airgun world just as anything else. It's up to the buyer to know what your getting. These airgun dealers have a 60 day return policy if your unhappy with your purchase. Now you bought a .30 cal in which there isn't very many options for projectiles to start with. It's always been a factor to find the pellets and airgun likes. I own over 350 airguns in my collection and there aren't many that like the same type pellets and some like just about any that fit. I own breakers and springers and PCP of all the sorts. Sounds like someone is just unhappy here and was expecting something different and didn't research before purchasing and whining about it! Only main issue with a barrel bore is cleaning it first then properly finding the pellets that shoot right and leading in the barrel first after a good proper cleaning with Ballistol and drying the barrel out first. I've been into airguns over 40 years myself and have common sense about it all. I've had a lemon or two and know all about it. But wasn't because of not finding a pellet that shoots right in one. The barrels have to be good and dry first and the power plant has to be werking properly!

Don't even go there with your B S no one is being grumpy !!! the point is guns are being sold under the guise that its all been check out period. the bottom line is if the junk was sent back to the manufacture from the dealer then maybe the manufacture would up the proper specs instead of shelling out garbage. But its fine in the air gun world as long as shi* falls down hill and the unexpecting buyer gets stuck with something they most likely dont have a clue about. That's exactly what's going on Dealers can afford a few returns as most get thru un noticed and the ball keeps a rolling Don't even go there with your B S what have you done for the air gun world except promote the same ole NONSENCE ITS S KNOWN TO DO RESEARCH Lets research what a dealer does to make sure what they sell is proper NO MATTER WHAT IT IS dont waste my time with your BS and nonsense you have a lot of nerve

And by the way Research is for the ones in the know, like any one who runs a business things are looked into. most people are not in the Know obviously you had your own business of sorts and have that mentality the typical joe does not he is left to trust the dealer

All the Hatsan springer rifles is junk

Dear Mike, thanks for your review. I’ll be checking my Hatsan 125 25 cal (never grouper) with this in mind. The fact and demonstration that such low quality barrels would be sent with ANY air rifle doesn’t speak well for the manufacturer or the retailers. These tools/rifles are not purchased with the expectation of them being mere toys. Sending such garbage for money speaks of a significant disrespect that these folks have for air gunners in general. The community will not likely grow until these people are held to some account. Thanks for what you do.

What about PCP?
@MrSteppingstone888
@MrSteppingstone888 3 ай бұрын
Hi Good question ! PCP has NO recoil they do not have a power plant system just pressurized air leaving its tank to send the pellet off that's why they are so accurate but pcp rifles do not feel like your shooting much as compared to a more mechanical break barrel or underlever type gun there you can enjoy the feel of being part of the gun as you do your part to shoot the best you can

I was wondering if you have to do a pellet to bore test when you buy a PCP?@@MrSteppingstone888

@@j.verfaillie5742 Honestly any air rifle you should see what the pellet to bore feels like. Now the new FX smooth twist would be little different but it should at least have some pellet contact before it hits the twist rifling at the crown end, those are Fredricks new barrels

Mike, you are a fountain of springer knowledge! No one else even comes close to educating airgunners in a way we can all understand and put to good use. Every clip was jam packed with goodies, the pellet on the breech block was dang impressive, and the gun itself is absolutely gorgeous. Great show, as usual!

On a very low power rifle like sub 500fps Canadian models a loose fit is actually better to prevent jams because they don't have enough power to expand anything haha But a bit of restriction sure is a good thing for the piston to build a bit of momentum and not bang into the chamber

Hatsan is really really low quality. If a gun is a cheap price, it is a cheap gun. Yes Hatsan, Im talking to you!

lol BUT They are the most powerful break barrel rifles. So your taking a chance on getting one with a good bore / the rest would have it gone thru and set up, we have our own custom seals for it. yes the gas rams on them fail we rebuild them properly at the end of the air gun day it just depends on what you really want in a break barrel. most guys think the harsh shot cycle means the gun is a cannon . they need to be gone thru and good barrel and the scope needs to be set up with a scope stop and one piece mount, the ones I re barreled guns for are all happy
