Hello Mike, My name is Ian, I'm from the UK. Your channel is a fantastic find for me. I loved listening to you, and so many things you've spoken about made absolute sense. Thank you for placing your camera above your work bench where we could see everything a listen you and understand what you were saying. My late, much loved and missed father left me two air rifles. Initially, I thought they were Weihrauch HW 35's in .177 and .22. They turned out to be Diana Original Model 35's in .177 and .22. They were from the mid 1970's and I think the .22 had been dry fired judging from the 'S' shape of the spring, as it came out of the chamber and the leather debris on the inside of the transfer port. I researched the rifles and was a little deflated to learn they weren't the calibre of the HW 35's and not that great. However, I was determined to improve them, though, and prove they could be reasonable air rifles and shoot/perform much better than they were expected to. My father was a shooter, though I'm twin to another boy, so we were never allowed near air rifles. My brother wasn't bothered, though I've longed for a HW80 since being twelve years old. I began with air rifles since dad passed in 2017. Shooting was dad's land and not for me to tread. If I was told not to do something, then I didn't do it. A far cry from the world of today. I took both rifles apart. I installed proper modern piston seals. I sleeved the spring guides and made top hats and sleeved inside their cylinders. I cleaned and polished the pistons, then lubed and re assembled. From being dry to lubed, it was beautiful feeling. They shoot so, so much better now with no horrible buzz/twang noise. They are nice, light rifles, excellent for in the field. Many things you said, I did. I was very keen with oil, wiping away any excess, like you said. The information about the breech seal was very interesting, as you said, often overlooked. I look forward to viewing your channel again, Mike. You are a great guy and I've enjoyed listening to you. Thank you. Ps. I watch another American gentleman called Pellets and Pistons Airgun Channel. He is a great guy and helped me so much with his advice and tutorials.

@MrSteppingstone888 Hi Mike, Thank you for your kind comment. I can assure you, you aren't wasting your time. Your postings are valuable, crammed full of fantastic, relevant information that is so, so useful and would benefit anyone reading. I'm sure you'll know. I think the Diana 34 came after the 35. I don't think they kept up with the Diana 35, and it got left behind as it competitors improved and improved. I think the Diana 34 was a superb air rifle, as I'm sure yours will be, when you've finished what you're doing. Best wishes, Mike, Ian. Ps. Thank you again. Also, my dad isn't here now, so it's doubly helpful.

@@MrSteppingstone888 I just figure it's a durable plastic coating that eliminates metal to metal contact. Sometimes if there is to much play, I will use a heat gun and use several layer then turn down in the lathe. Thanks

@@luckylarry5112 thats really cool Larry. the pistons are not perfect so I try to chuck it and try different positions see which one is at least closer to it being centered

@@MrSteppingstone888 You are so right!!!!!!! I have rebuilding airguns for over 20 years and every time I have to put the 4 jaw chuck on for pistons. I used to tig the spot to drill since many are hardened. Since I got a heat treat oven and most of the time it's just easier to make a new piston out of 4130. Thanks for all you vids, you are a real asset to the community!!!! Larry

I learned a lot from this. I wish I could have seen this when I was back in the US in Dec 2019 when I replaced a broken R10 spring with an ARH Hornet spring.. May even take it back down and redo a few things if I can travel back home this year. Very useful information.

A Stoeger x10 that I can’t get to shoot. I mostly just want to figure out why. I’ve replaced the spring and seal with Vortek products and just tinkered with it a lot. I’ve got a Crosman too that I’d like to get a better spring guide and top hat for.

Great videos as always. Mike, I have a Beeman R8 that I bought new in 1988. I had it tuned by Beeman back in 2006. I changed the piston seal but want to know if you can give it a real tune? I'm not looking for high power.
