Irish have made great out of bagpipe music. It is interesting how this Persian instrument with its unique sound travelled so far! There are Sassanid reliefs depicting bagpipe 2000 years ago in Persia.

That does not Automatically Make the Pipes a Persian Instrument. Case in Point, The Brigade of Gurkhas also have a Pipe & Drum Band & there are Statues & Friezes of Them throughout Nepal. In 2000 years they will still be there for whatever Intelligent Life Forms of the Time to Wonder at. That won't mean that they were a Nepalese Instruments. The Celts History goes back just as many Years as that of the Persians, although they were not known as Celts for all that time. Their Roots & History have been traced to Northern Europe & Scandinavia & further. Some Historians Claim there was Contact with Ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia & what we now know as Turkey. Even the Hyksos Civilisation share some of the Celtic Forms & Patterns, that Manifest all through the known Migration to the Celtic Civilisation's Centre in 1AD.

@vickyRoyalHistory True that many civilizations share common things. However bagpipes are clearly shown in very ancient persian reliefs where others have no such direct linkage. Many musical instruments have persian origins, too. Let's enjoy them!

@@martynewport Yes, I'll always Enjoy them, but I stand by the fact they're Celtic in Origin. We'll agree to disagree then about the Origins of Bagpipes & as you Say Enjoy the Music. I find the Regimental Quick March (St Patricks Day) a little flat when the Pipes aren't Playing too, I must Say. Enjoy Your Weekend & Stay Safe.

I love bagpipes❤ just a little bit of info. When I turned 7 in hospital for a birthday present although I would have loved the Irish guards playing, my Mum asked the New Zealand salvation army to play outside my hospital window. God Bless the Irish Guards.

Just a Bit more Info, The Mounted Band of the Household Cavalry, that's the one with the 2 big Kettle Drums on Clydesdale Horses also have a State Uniform Similar to the Drum Majors. Their State Uniforms are the Oldest Continually Worn Military Uniforms in the World & date Back to 1660, when King Charles ll was invited by Parliament to come back from Exile in Flanders & take the Throne, after Oliver Cromwell died. He had raised the Lifeguard Regiment (The Oldest Regiment in the BA) as Body Guards while in Exile & they were made up of Loyal Cavaliers. The Drum Major's State Uniform worn here by DM Gareth Chambers (1 Bat: IG) who is now The Senior Drum Major of the Household Division, was also Supplied by Charles ll, but not until around 1670, so they too are very Old & unchanged from the Original Style, but are no longer made from Gold Cloth. The State Uniforms are only worn when there Will be Royalty Present or on the Changing of the Guard Parades if they fall on the Birthday of a Senior Member of the Royal Family or Prince George's Birthday as 2nd in Line to the Throne.

In response to Mr Robinsons remarks about the bagpipes and the "ridiculous garb" I'll have you know, since you lack the education to understand such things as culture and tradition, I will explain it to you. The bagpipes have been part of Celtic history for a thousand years, the Scots and Irish people have formed a big part of our cultural identity, just like the wearing of the kilt,I am proud to be a soldier/piper, so just a bit of fair warning, if you want to keep all of your teeth, don't make such remarks in the presence of a piper.

From a retired Yank soldier....hear hear! At the Battle of the Plains of Abraham it is said that the British commander ordered the pipes stopped. When the battle turned badly a soldier yelled if he wanted victory start the pipes. He did and they did. Legend maybe, but the military service is built upon legends and traditions and the Brits and their Commonwealth do a fine job at both.

The "Dog" is an Irish Wolfhound known Affectionally as "Seamus" by The Regiment of The Irish Guards. He is The Regiment's Mascot, a Purebred Irish Wolfhound named "Domhnall" in Keeping with Tradition, all The Mascots are Named for Ancient Irish Kings, but are all known Fondly as "Seamus" in his day to day Duty. Domhnall was Officially Retired in September 2019, having Served from 2012, the 16th Irish Guards Mascot. Domhnall is Pictured Proudly Wearing his Summer Order Uniform, A Scarlet Coat, complete with Black Collar with the Regimental Collar Badge of a Shamrock & The 4 Button Grouping denoting an Irish Guard, the 4th Senior Regiment of the Footguards. On the Side of His Coat is the 8 Pointed Star of the Order of St Patrick, the Cap Badge of the Irish Guards, with the Motto Quis Separabit? (Who Shall Separate Us). The 17th Irish Wolfhound Mascot is "Turlough Mor" who joined The Regiment in Dec 2020 & is also known Fondly as "Seamus". There is one thing that sets The Irish Guard Mascot apart from Every Other Mascot in the British Army, theirs is the Only Mascot allowed to Lead the Regiment on Parade. Other Regiments may with Permission Parade with their Mascot, but the Mascot must March behind the Colour & Usually they'll be at the Rear of the Parade. When Seamus Parades, he is First, the Drum Major & Band are Next & the Colour Bearer & Escort Lead the Guards Next.

Pretty cool how I happened to be in London when this video was filmed. And I saw changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace the day prior to this video being filmed which this was filmed on Sunday June 30th, 2019. When this was filmed, I was at London stadium for the second MLB game in London.
