Imagine how much more impressive the sight and sound, when bands like this were 50 + strong, and not 33. Sad to see this aspect of Britain's Military tradition in such decline.

Having seen this band today at Windsor, I sought out a video in order to confirm my impression that it's a particularly fine body of musicians. I have always been fond of the Irish Guards, especially owing to the wolfhound. After a long intermission, Changing of the Guard has the power to bring back childhood experiences of the same event in a wonderfully sensory manner. Although a trained ear will recognise that they repeat marches, their favourites coincide nicely with mine: just today I was scanning the music sheets while they were playing Children of the Regiment and Trafalgar.

The drum major being out of step at the beginning is a big surprise. We can only guess how long this would have went on if the trombonist directly behind him did not call out. Also, the boy on the right is priceless, and never out of step. Fine job the band, as always.

He is a drum seargent. Seeable as he wears the uniform of the Drum Corps.

He corrected before they started March proper. Enjoy this band immensely, playlists are varied, although they occasionally do play their favourites, which funny enough align with my tastes, couldn't be more happier than that WELL DONE, talented musicians one an all.👍👍💕💕👏👏👏

Good stuff as usual, but can anything be done about the police officers who seem to look decidedly "vague" in the public eye?

Thats a little strange, a drum major from the Corp of Drums leading the regular band...

It's not strange.

ALL Drum Majors come from the Corps of Drums, they are not part of the Regimental Band but part of the Corps of Drums or Pipes and Drums of the Battalion. This Drum Sergeant leading the Band was appointed as a Drum Major later.

Well, the music is good but I can't believe a Drum Major in one of the Guards Bands could get out of step within a couple of minutes of stepping off ? Fortunately, he's not one of the official Drum Majors, him being a Sergeant Drummer, and not holding the official appointment of Drum Major ......... Think I'll stick to watching Royal Marines Bands for total professional music AND DRILL ! SuperNutkin

+SuperNutkin. Your comment a little unfair I think. It occurred within a few seconds of stepping off, not a few minutes as you state and was put right immediately. I was filming this clip and the echo from the bass drum under the canopy probably explains it. He was back in step before leaving the Barracks. Like you, I am a great fan of the Royal Marines (my late father having been in 40 and 42 Commando) but I dare say even their various and excellent bands make minor errors from time to time.

+858 429 You are essentially right and I don't mean to have a moan at the Drum Sergeant, obviously less experienced than a Drum Major, but it is a serious fault. All the Drum Majors in the Household Division have the same echo while leaving the Victoria Barracks, also when the Time Beater gets carried away with Bravura, and the Front Center Sergeant doesn't have to yell at them to get in step. By the way, the boy on the sidewalk was perfectly in step all the time. Excellent video, by the way. Thank you for uploading it.
