28 is the only one I've gotten to see up close. The automobile museum in Tupelo, MS had it before they closed down. Wished I could have heard it run.

Wow! For a movie prop, it's very accurate to the real thing.

The spotlight mechanism for the "cyclops" light surprised me when I got a close up look at Tucker #28 in Tupelo, MS years ago, right before the museum closed down. But, mechanically, it makes all kinds of sense. Much easier than making the whole headlight swivel. My only regret was not getting to see it run. Wish the Tucker corporation could have survived; would love to see what they would have come up with for the muscle car era of 60s and gas crunch of the 70s.

11-19-49: A Federal district court jury today heard testimony that Senator Homer Ferguson, Republican, of Michigan, was "hell bent" on jailing Preston Tucker and that an Internal Revenue Department official in this city told an agent to get incriminating evidence "any way possible."
@kokolovitch562 күн бұрын
Senator Homer Ferguson was in the pockets of the Big Three and was instrumental in bankrupting Tucker.

Way ahead of its time fantastic car. Probably the best example of corporate monopoly THUGERY Of the twentieth century....PERIOD! The big three eliminated all competition and it took them less than fifty years. Keep in mind we're talking about literally over a 100 companies since 1900.....That just wanted to produce their own thing.🤨 Big corporations limiting the marketplace......need to go the way of the dodo.... no excuses!!! Bigger is always bad!!!!

The driver side front and rear door handles look like they are different heights. Anyone else think so?
@prestontuckersspeedshop19486 күн бұрын
Good catch! Yes they are, and that is how most of the door handles were “aligned” from the factory. Not perfect, but original.

Was at the Tucker 40th anniversary the summer of 1988 in Iola Wisconsin. Absolutely beautiful cars, no wonder the Big Three hated them.

Great to have all this Tucker stuff in there. Next time I visit my sisters in Lebanon, PA, I’m going to make a trip to that museum. Never seen a Tucker in person, just auctions on TV, and read a lot about them, but never saw the movie.

I remember finding out about your grandfather when I was in my twenties in the mid-70s. Being an anti-establishment hippie I was horrified at what the big three did to your grandfather! He was so ahead of his time with safety and they were embarrassed and ashamed! How many people did they kill in the pursuit of profits?! I might be 70 today but I'm still the same screaming liberal I was back then!

What kinda baffles me.... and maybe they would have changed the design in time; but what with Preston Tuckers' time spent with Harry Miller and building racing engines.... why did they end up with such a restrictive intake setup? I mean, OK.... the 90-degree bend from carb to intake tubes is practically unavoidable.... especially with 1940's technology. But the gasket between the carburetor base and the intake "tubes" is just ripe for leakage or failure. You'd have thought, with Preston Tucker's background, and even Eddie Offutt and Jimmy Sakayama's backgrounds with engineering and racing.... why did they not come up with an intake runner set, cast from aluminum; that connected to the carburetor base with a single gasket, and had tuned, individual runners to the intake ports on the head? Sure, it might have cost a few nickles more; but I bet that intake setup is very restrictive with TWO 90-degree bends, and gasket surfaces that would've surely been prone to failure in use. And this wasn't unheard of technology, either. Lots of cars from the 30's and 40's (especially those with pancake superchargers) had tuned intakes with long runners. Even a few short years later, the Dodge "RamCharger" racing team would develop their own setup with tuned runners.... culminating in the "Sonoramic" Rams-Horn induction setups on the 413's in 1959 through 1962. Hell, even the slant six had a tuned intake with long runners!! This wasn't unknown stuff in '47 or '48. But, I understand.... time was very short, especially surrounding the development of the O-335. I suppose the mandate was "Get it Running" as opposed to "Make it run well".
