excellent instructions - I have replaced many a laptop keyboard - but why open with "Hi GUYS"? I am a 70 yr old woman who has self-taught computer care and I'm sure there are many other females of all ages out there too. It's a simple thing, but why not "Hi folks" or "Hi there"?

Apologies if it was taken the wrong way - it was meant as a gender neutral getting. Here in the UK, at least, it's very common to say "guys" to mean a collective group of people of mixed gender. I studied both linguistics and sociolinguistics at University so I have a deep interest in language!

You can get started for not much at all - check out the video description for all the purchasing affiliate links. Depending on how many cable runs you'll be installing and what length, you can vary how much cable you purchase and how many RJ45 plugs, etc. The most expensive item will probably be the crimper, but you'll be able to use it for many years to come - or if it's really a one-off project you could pop it on eBay afterwards.

Yes, as the socket/connector is rj45 whereas the catX refers to the cable standard

Those strain relief boots suck, get ones that are more like reverse plastic clips that are similar to the ones on the ethernet connector itself. Avoid any of the ones that feel rubbery. They will get hard over time... and even when not hard, they are a huge pain in the butt to deal with.

Great Info. Now why do they have to be in either one of those sequences? Someone once told me, just put soli right next to the same color stripe, do the same on both ends and it will work.. Anyone can clarify this please..

Some years ago, I crimped all my RJ45’s with non pass-through plugs.. that was when my eye sight was a bit better 👀. Definitely going to invest in some new tools (and pass-through plugs) now I think, as a few repairs are needs. so T568 a or b- interchangeably? I mean if you’re following that color guide say that’s using T568B- and you’ve purchased aftermarket LAN cable and plugged in there not knowing that it has been setup as T568A- that will still work?

As long as the cable runs themselves have the same standard at each of their own ends, it doesn't matter if you then plug in a patch lead that uses the other standard. It's only if there's a switch in standards within the cable that the wires will cross over, hence making a crossover cable.
