You have issues that most the oil pumped is not used for fuel but for products that are used in plastics, rubbers, and other materials that are used in building your EV. What about the mining of minerals for the creation of EV motors and batteries that are not rebuildable. If you are going to compare fuel powered vehicles to electric powered vehicles. Solar panels are the worst because they are non-recyclable and extremely toxic just like the lithium-ion batteries. They mention recycling lithium-ion batteries but unless something has changed in the past 20 years they are still not recyclable.

Yes oil is needed for other things however, a big part of it it is for us to burn, if that is reduced or negated then there would be less pollution, and as for mining the materials for creating EVs the same can be said for ICE cars, you still need to mine and manufacture the raw materials to create them, a lot all of it is recycled either!! Recycling: I think you'll find that things have changed massively in the last 5 years alone, look it up you'll find all sorts of initiatives, companies etc that are tackling this. With car manufacturers committing to recycling and building the plants to do so next to factories it's only going to improve. Please research be inquisitive learn, don't disregard out of hand with old ways of thinking, we are on the brink of a new era and we need people to understand our impact. We have to change our thinking, question it, but understand it first. None of the solutions are the answer alone but the are at least part of it and by changing our ways of thinking and learning we can innovate new solutions that may just be the answer. If we don't, the future will be bleak for our children and beyond.

@@MichaelSmith-fn5no Actually no, most of the oil pumped out of the ground is not used for fuel. Were you even reading the comment or just blindly reacting.

Stay with a regular car. My daughter had 1 and it died in 1 year. 8000.00 to fix it.

Sorry to hear about your daughter's experience. What car was it? Would it not have been covered under warranty? Regardless, millions of folk around the world would report a different experience. In fact, EVs are statistically far less likely to go wrong than petrol/diesel cars as there's so much less to go wrong! A small handful of basic moving parts versus literally hundreds of complex parts. I don't think it's reasonable to hold back inevitable progress and technological advancements because of one example of a problem, not to mention the URGENT need to bring pollution levels down drastically.

@@SwitchedOnNetwork I think that the entire "no moving parts though so it's cheaper" is completely and utterly ignorant of the reality of lithium batteries and how they will prevent anyone too poor to buy a somewhat newish car (think max 5 years) from having access to personal transportation capable of supporting a family or small business. You should know what happens to these batteries after a certain amount of charge cycles. You should know that costs of several thousand $ for replacement batteries are industry standard, a price that can only ever increase as governments force this technology on literally everyone and create additional artificial demand for lithium that you have to add to every single phone, laptop and pretty much everything else capable of storing electricity. This also means no more used cars unless it's worth more than the unavoidable 3rd 4th or 5th replacement battery. Or would you put a 20k battery in a 10 year old tesla that's worth 10k? No? Into the crusher the entire vehicle goes, minus battery of course. That lithium just gets burned off so they can recycle at least the metals used. You EV evangelists never bother to look beyond your cushy upper class life. You never ask "what ev is going to replace the 2000$ used car that millions of lower class people depend on to work, go shopping or even just to bring their kids to school." It's nothing but denial of reality. You people are the useful idiots supporting taking away what little freedom of movement many people have for nothing but the sweet 5 minutes of joy that this feeling of dictating the filthy luddites how to live their uncivilized lives seems to give you. I hope you can live with the guilt when you see what you have done. When we go back to the early industrial age standard of "you need to be at least this wealthy to own any kind of personal motor transport". But hey who cares about social repercussions or useless poor people if they stand in the way of your savior complex, right captain planet?

@@DeadNoob451 I think you're confused. The moving part count has nothing to do with the economics of lithium - two further subjects which you also appear to know very little about. PS: Gas/Diesel cars will still be available to purchase in 5, 10, 15 or even 20 years time. They'll probably be a lot cheaper than $2000 too - given that no-one with a brain will want to buy one.

I went to buy a EV as my next car about a year ago, but my budget was not enough to be able to afford one. So I ended up with another diesel car.

Yeah I think that's the main reason holding a lot of people back (me included!). For brand new cars I think it's a no brainer as the higher cost is almost certainly offset by the lower running costs (never mind the moral obligation). But for those of us who'd only ever be buying older cars, choice is still more limited but it's thankfully getting better and as more and more EVs get bought new then sold a few years later.... I'd also love to see more options to convert older cars! My Skoda Octavia Estate is a great car and just the size I need for my work, but there's not an affordable EV option for me yet and although a conversion wouldn't ever be as good as a ground-up EV, it would be better than scrapping it!

Can't believe this video isn't up there in the algorithm. It's so well-made! I, for one, am not particularly into cars, but this video has been super informative.

Yes, it's very well done isn't it and certainly makes you think. I can't take any credit for the video, all credit there goes to the original creator, Mark, who was kind enough to let me show it on this channel.
