Can you use this as a battery backup? Im other words you're smoking with the smoker plugged into the house and then you have the charger hooked up somehow in case the power goes out in the middle of the night even for a minute would this kick in to keep the smoker going?

I got rid of my Pit Boss vertical 5-series smoker for the same reasons - total lack of smokey flavor plus extreme temperature swings. In its place, I bought a Weber 22" Smokey Mountain. Today, I hang ribs and chickens in my WSM and the products come out so much better than the vertical pellet smoker. Love your channel - it's one of the best ones on KZbin!

I just done some today and just finished them. cooked at 275.f = 135.c for 1.5 hours turned them half way, turned out great with the pit boss comp blend. i used my own rub don't need to get ripped off buying rubs :) Could still taste a nice smokey flavour. i had mine with no sauce to see if i could taste any smoke and i did...just right. wife & kids had the home made buffalo sauce. This is a keeper Cheers from down under

I've had the Chefstemp for several months and I cannot say I've had a great experience with it. The ambient temp is nowhere near the inside smoker temp. It can take up to several hours to spit out a estimated cook time, in fact one time my cook was done before it spit out a estimated time. Do me a favor and set a custom alert for "when temp rises above" and tell me if you actually get the alert. My custom alerts do not work. The defaults work, custom sets do not. NOTE; you can just use a hot cup of water for this test!

Tri-tip is not worth temp probes. Just cook it like a steak. Get your grill grates to 700+ degrees, sear it, turn the gas to low or off and cook for 10-15 min. Remove from heat, rest, and cut correctly - 90deg to the grain.

Don’t oil your steaks! Especially ribeyes! They’ll taste so much better without it. They won’t stick as long as the grill’s hot enough and you’re not moving them around. Carbonized oil tastes like shit! Get that grill hotter! If it’s the right temperature for vegetables it’s not hot enough for protein!

I love mine to the fullest. I don’t recommend using the app to turn the unit off. I did that once and thought it was off, but it didn’t. it cooked overnight destroyed internals luckily pit boss replaced all the parts for me with no issues.
