General Sir John Cope performed his duty as and officer, with no stain or blemish on this character or integrity. It was the privates who turned and ran. He could not rally them, though he tried.

My father was a very kind man who would always try to help people if he could. He was a man of great integrity. I believe he got these values from the Boys' Brigade, along with his love of music, a talent for music, seasoned survival skills, and even signals skills, which he used in the army. He was already half-trained by the time he joined up. He once told me that he could have been a rich man if he had been prepared to compromise his integrity, but that he never would. He served in WWII from 1939 to 1945 and was taken prisoner at Arnhem in Holland, and to the infamous Stalag XIB, where he was used as slave labour in the Bad Grund lead mine. He was later put on one of the infamous Death Marches across Germany before being liberated. I believe that he survived all of this because, as a child, he had years of grooming in Christian values and discipline by the Boys' Brigade. He was a humble and ordinary man with exceptional integrity and values. Thank you to the Boys Brigade for giving me a father that I am proud of.

Fareweel ye dark and lonely hills Far awa' beneath the sky MacPherson's time will no' be lang On yonder gallows high Sae rantonly, sae wantonly Sae dauntinly gae'd he He's played a tune and he's danced it aroon In a-blow the gallows tree "It was by a woman's treacherous hand I am condemned tae dee A-blow a ledge at my windae she stood A blanket she threw o'er me!" Sae rantonly, sae wantonly Sae dauntinly gae'd he He's played a tune and he's danced it aroon In a-blow the gallows tree "There's some come here tae see me hanged Some tae buy my fiddle But afore that I would part wi' her I'd brak her through the middle!" Sae rantonly, sae wantonly Sae dauntinly gae'd he He's played a tune and he's danced it aroon In a-blow the gallows tree He took the fiddle in tae baith o' his hands Brak it o'er a stane Sayin' "Nay other hand shall play on thee When I am deid and gane!" Sae rantonly, sae wantonly Sae dauntinly gae'd he He's played a tune and he's danced it aroon In a-blow the gallows tree His reprieve was coming o'er the Brig o' Banff Tae set MacPherson free But they put the knot a quarter afore They hanged him tae the tree Sae rantonly, sae wantonly Sae dauntinly gae'd he He's played a tune and he's danced it aroon In a-blow the gallows tree "Oh, little did my mother think When first she cradled me That I would turn a rovin' boy Die on the gallows tree!" Auntie Lorna (probably not) sings a moving lament. I know it from The Corries, but this makes it more personal as it's for a Highland woman forced to travel to the Lowlands and beg for survival after her men kin have been murdered by the Sassenach.

Exact Lyrics to this version: All the blue bonnets are over the border March, march, Ettrick and Teviotdale, Why, my lads, dinna ye march forward in order? March, march, Eskdale and Liddesdale, All the blue bonnets are over the border. Many a banner spread, flutters above your head, Many a crest that is famous in story, Mount and make ready then, sons o' the mountain glen, Fight for the king and the old Scottish glory. (Chorus) March, march, Ettrick and Teviotdale, Why, my lads, dinna ye march forward in order? March, march, Eskdale and Liddesdale, All the blue bonnets are over the border. Come for the hills where your hirsels are grazing, Come for the glen or the buck and the roe: Come to the crag where the beacon is blazing; Come with the buckler, the lance, and the bow. (Chorus) March, march, Ettrick and Teviotdale, Why, my lads, dinna ye march forward in order? March, march, Eskdale and Liddesdale, All the blue bonnets are over the border. Trumpets are sounding, war-steeds are bounding; Mount and make ready, and march in good order; England shall many a day speak of the bloody fray, When the blue bonnets came over the border. (Chorus) March, march, Ettrick and Teviotdale, Why, my lads, dinna ye march forward in order? March, march, Eskdale and Liddesdale, All the blue bonnets are over the border. All the blue bonnets are over the border.

Here on the day after Rabbie Burns’ 265th birthday. Never forget that we were annexed to England against our will. We will gain our independence soon. It’s been nearly 307 years of subjugation, and I believe that we shall be a nation once again. The people who signed away our independence were traitors and their views have never represented that of Scotland. ALBA GU BRÀTH!
