@whyteay he video is good and as a person who is often in Sherrifmuir myself its a much appreciated effort. Its not easy to get period images to make the videos like this. The photo's are also good but the guys in Jacobite clothing probably have made them theirselves or had it made at a high cost. Its a tribute that people try hard to respect and honour our Scottish history so well done to them, and also to people who make vids like this.

Agreed. There's a difference between what happens tactically on a battlefield and the overall strategic outcome. In terms of a contest of arms, neither side could claim an outright victory, but the strategic result, i.e. the unwillingness of the Jacobites to come out of their corner again, favoured the government side

@gaconnochie Poor leadership on the day by The Earl of Mar was the trouble here, but to be honest he was not an expert soldier and had his limitations. It was his failure to return to the field the next day however, that led to the confusion about who was the victor. You can only imagine the scale of the victory had Dundee been at the head of th Jacobite forces. History is full of what if's however

Such an awesome song. I've been trying to work out a metal version of this song. But it is not the easiest song for working out a structure for. Actually proving quite the challenge. A good chunk of the views have probably been me sitting trying to work out a guitar melody for this lol.

Fight or run, or run to fight, ma hame will nae be the same, for the English come to claim ma land, and in their bastard kings name, I am Celt an I am Scot, and they are the foreigner who has not, the right to this mans land now. I Will vote for devolution, but Scotland MUST remain a part of the UK, the English need us, the Welsh need us, the Irish need us, and we need ALL of them, but better a friendly neighbour than an imprisoned tiger by your side.

Though to be fair it wsan't that undecisive. The Jacobite forces vastly outnumbered the govt forces but they were stopped in their tracks from breaking into the southern part of Scotland. The govt forces didn't need to wipe them out - only stop them!

The Earl of Mar, a great and loyal Jacobite but a military fool! Worst possible timing for the rebellion! Although his intentions were good and his heart was pure he essential cost The King his throne!

@@VCR45 I think the one battle would have secured Scotland for King Jamie, or at least tipped the balance irreversibly in favour of the Jacobite Cause. Jamie was far more pragmatic than Charlie, I think given the chance he’d have taken Scotland and stopped at that to save bloodshed and financial instability.

@@VCR45 it’s a good point, but I think with the support of HRE, Pope, France, Spain, Poland and Sweden, that a successful negotiation would have been more likely than war
