Great video man! definitely opening me up to practice some really cool new ideas. I've been messing around with the hybrid picking technique. Like a Chicken Pickin thing and kind of wondering what I can take it to. But the concepts that you show through thumping. Not only am I going to be learning a new technique. But also putting a new principal to an old technique.

Does this only work on FM9 and not the FM3? Because I'm reading it doesn't on FM3...

So yes...MIDI/USB does not work on FM3...we've got a Roland UM-1 now, and I can get Program Changes to work but not Control Changes/Scene changes...any idea why?

Thanks a bunch. Something clearly came to mind hearing the sounds that thumping (that doesn't pick with thumb and pluck at the same time) brought. I felt like I was listening to Rasqael (flamenco) in a different way. I love the feel. Just wanna get into it. I loved the idea of the backstroke with the thumb. A rich video. Only wish it came in parts. So, I will come watching again and again, instead, to learn slowly but surely. I'm looking to understand Asa's thumping Skil in her " fire on the mountain" and her " Jailer" songs. She rocks, thumping. Any possibility of doing a video on her songs for beginners? Most of all, thanks for including the history. I subscribed.

Hello ! Thx for this tutorial. Everything works for me, except a latency at each preset change... do you know how to deal with this problem ? thank you in advance
@gabriel_levi4 ай бұрын
Does the gap only happen when using MIDI commands or also when you’re just using the foot switches? If it happens either way, have you updated to the latest firmware which enables gapless switching? You actually have to manually enable gapless switching in the settings on your unit. MIDI commands should not introduce any additional latency especially with gapless switching enabled. Let me know, thanks!

Hey man, please reply ! How can i send midi messages to Abeleton Live ?? i would like to control ableton live looper with my Fm9
@gabriel_levi6 ай бұрын
Hey whats up man! So you’ll need to use a 5 pin MIDI cable from the MIDI OUT port on the FM9 going into a MIDI IN port of your interface. This will allow you to use the FM9 as a MIDI controller for whatever you need within Ableton. I imagine you can “MIDI learn” each switch to whatever parameter you want. This MAY also be possible with just a USB cable, but the FM9 would be sending the MIDI and not receiving it so you’ll have to set that up accordingly within Ableton.

I noticed you have hitchhikers thumb like Tosin. Do you bend your thumb back while doing this or is that your natural thumb position? Thanks a ton for the tutorial!

hi man, I'm allready in problems with step one... Logic pro doest see the axe fx fm3 as a midi device. I can only see the option "logic pro virtual out". Im connected woth an usb to midi cable van mac book to fm3
@gabriel_levi4 ай бұрын
The FM3 does not support MIDI over USB. You’ll need a dedicated MIDI interface for this to work on the FM3.
@DavidMacVicar6 ай бұрын
No matter what I do, I cannot get this to work. I followed it perfectly, even slowed it down and watched it. When my FM9 gets to the second midi region, it does not change scenes at all (when performing a song in logic). IF, I go into the midi region settings (in the List editor) and move the value up and down, it DOES change scenes. But it does not change scenes when I am actually playing through a song in Logic, or scrubbing the playhead back and forth across midi regions. Super frustrating! I don't know what I am missing.

Setup-wise, do you have a compressor in your chain to make the notes easier to sound-out or are you just really emphasising the hammer-ons and pulloffs?
